Summary
With Gansey and Adam in Washington DC for a smarmy networking event, and Blue and Ronan having an extended sleepover in their absence, the four teens use the weekend apart from their significant others as an opportunity to ask for advice on taking the "next step" in their burgeoning relationships. Bright, shiny things just weren't for people like them. Adam learned that lesson. He stopped looking for them.
And then the county fair came to Henrietta.
Adam probably wouldn't even have heard about it, but the elementary school was close enough to the fairgrounds that he could just see the top of the Ferris wheel from the playground. Even in the daylight, it seemed to shine so bright it almost hurt Adam's eyes to look at it. Big metal beams that caught the sun just right, like the dog tag times a hundred. Twinkling lights in red and green and blue and pink and yellow and purple and not a hint of brown or gray in sight.
Adam had never seen anything like it. He had to go.

“So, you’re a dominatrix?” Blue asks him over the phone when he calls to tell her he got head hunted in the world of escorting. He’s joining an exclusive agency that specialises in the, well, more specialised areas of sex. He feels the tendrils of thrill licking up his spine at being approached.
“Dominatrices are women. I’m just a dom for hire really.” He replies breezily. He would quite like a fancy title like dominatrix. Maybe he’d get a card made, *Adam Parrish, Dominatrix*.

Summary
Amanda lowered her eyes to her lap. She thought of reaching a hand to the back of Rowan’s neck and touching the fine, bristly edges of her hair, of running her hand down the crown of her head to the yoke of her shoulders, like soothing an animal. Would Rowan want that from her? Tolerate it? It was one thing when she was happy, a contented creature safe in her own kingdom, and another entirely when she was like this, tired and waterlogged with sadness. Rowan had never seemed the type to seek comfort from other people. Company, or destruction. But not comfort. There had been a time not so long ago when Amanda would have been capable of ignoring this, but now she knew that there was some part of Rowan that matched some part of herself, and she couldn’t unknow it, couldn’t look at her and not see it there.
