Adding onto the whole mess there’s still the aftermath of a life altering event they are all trying to grapple with. Everything was simpler when they were younger. Snowbird wants to go back.

"Yeah," Flux said quietly, staring at his hands. "I know."
Seraphim sat up, her eyes soft in a way Flux rarely saw. She was usually all sharp edges and sharper words, but right now she looked almost tender. "Then tell him at the retreat."
Flux blinked. "What?"
"The retreat. You'll be stuck in the same place for three days. He can’t run away." She shrugged, like it was the simplest thing in the world. "Sounds like the perfect opportunity to me."
