He’s clearly unaware he’s being watched, which is good. Dazai expected nothing else. “Hm.” He hums, and Dazai knows he’s about to start one of those silly monologues he has.
“I spoke to Osamu today,” He starts, his tone portraying nothing but absolute pride at that. It's been a hot second since Dazai has heard his given name leave Chuuya’s mouth and it sounds too perfect to belong to him.
“I even gave him my pen.” Ah right, Chuuya’s pen is currently sitting in Dazai’s bag. He's so glad Chuuya had a spare pen today, and that his own ran out. It was practically destiny if you ask him.
“We’re also assigned partners on a literature project.” Partners. Him and Chuuya are partners. Sure it's in the ‘partnered up for a presentation about authors’ but it's partners nonetheless.
Like he can hear Dazai, Chuuya agrees. “Me and Osamu are partners, doesn't that sound perfect?” It does Chuuya. It really does.

Dazai knew that in 10, 20, 50—even 100 years from now he would be able to feel this feeling. This feeling of utter despair as he put his numb fingers on Chuuya’s freezing neck.
No pulse.
Dazai clung to Chuuya like a second skin. He clung to him like maybe if he held Chuuya closer, then that would bring him back. Bring him back to the old Chuuya, yelling at him and punching him, and calling him stupid nicknames. Slowly tears began to drip down his face looking at Chuuya’s oh so pale face. He shouldn’t be able to look that pale.

“You heard what I said, shitty Dazai. He doesn’t want you. Not a single one of them does, but I do. So you’re going to fucking stay here, because you don’t get to leave me again.”
“I’m not participating in this weird ass fantasy where we spend the rest of our lives together. I’m not him and you know it,” Dazai bites out, renewing his efforts to get out of his bindings.
Nakahara’s hand shoots out to pin him against the couch and stop his movements. “I know. Of course, I know that. But he owed me, and now he's fucking dead so you’re the one that’s going to pay on that debt. So, I am going to fucking keep you and when the times comes, I’m going to be the one kill you. You don’t have anything waiting for you out there, and you know it.”
Finally, Dazai stills. He tries to formulate a response, but he's not stupid, and there's no denying the truth. Slowly, he nods, and from above him, Nakahara grins.
