The discernible hurt lacing Tan’s laugh rang in Fang’s ears, and Fang’s heart was screaming to his brain to say something—anything that could convince Tan that he was getting it all wrong. But all that came out was a soft, fractured, ‘Tan’.
(Or, Tan just wanted Fang to ravel in him—but Fang was scared it would only drive Tan away.)

“I would,” Wave says, and the record player in Pang’s head screeches to a skidding, shuddering halt.
“What?” He croaks.
alternatively, all it takes for Pang and Wave to realise they're in love with each other is a little bit of time.
