“I need my shadowsinger to be able to walk into battle should I require such,” said the Death God airily, as he arrived at Azriel’s back. The sword scraping against the stone stopped abruptly and Azriel straightened in his chains. “I don't, however, need you to fly.”
Azriel turned his head to protest, anything but his–
But Koschei had already hefted his sword and with both hands brought the blade down severing Azriel’s wings from his body.
Azriel cried out in a broken voice that pierced the night***
After the battle with Koschei leaves Azriel without his wings, he is a shell of his former self. No one can seem to pull the shadowsinger back from the edge…But Gwyneth Berdara, his mate, has never been one to back down from a challenge.
