Summary
Shane Hollander is just trying to survive NYU biochemistry, hockey practice, and the graveyard shift at 7-Eleven. He's too exhausted to notice that his new regular customer is Russian mafia, or that Ilya's interest in him goes beyond terrible coffee and cookies.
When Ilya hands him a $10,000 designer scarf and matching gloves, Shane doesn't panic. He sells them for next month's rent. Any normal person would be terrified. Instead, Shane uses the leftover money to buy a Hello Kitty watch, pastel pink, childish, utterly incongruous with the danger circling him. He wears it to his next night shift without irony or apology.
Ilya notices immediately. He is fascinated.

Summary
Snow crunches under Shane’s boots as he steps out of the Moscow restaurant, breath fogging in the cold. He’s halfway down the steps when a familiar voice stops him cold.
“Shane.”
He freezes.
Two years. Two years since Ilya Rozanov disappeared without a word.
Shane turns slowly.
Ilya stands beside a black car, coat open despite the freezing air, broad shoulders filling the space like he owns the entire street. Men linger nearby—watching, waiting—but Shane barely notices them. His focus locks on Ilya.
The gold cross still rests against his chest.
Two years ago Ilya Rozanov had turned the hockey world upside down by announcing he would be retiring while he was at the top of his physical prime and at the height of the most publicized hockey rivalry of all time. Summary
Ilya’s still learning what Shane likes and needs, observing him quietly because Shane’s not so forthcoming with what he wants unless he’s certain it’s what he’s supposed to want. But it’s not until Shane reaches back and grabs Ilya’s hip to pull him closer, pressing their bodies together and taking some of Ilya’s weight, that he realises Shane’s been studying Ilya the same way.
“I’m trying to take care of you.”
“Why?” Ilya says, instead of something safer.
Shane twists over his shoulder to frown at him. “Because I want to? Because you’re tired and sad and not feeling well?”
“Oh.” Ilya pulls his bottom lip through his teeth. “But I…”
“I think maybe we both fucked up tonight?” Shane says tentatively.
“No, is not your fault.” Ilya rubs a hand over Shane’s shoulder and then kisses it, wet and soft. “You’re good.”
Shane hums like he’s not convinced. He turns and drapes his arms over Ilya’s shoulders, still pressed close. “After this, will you…”
“Yes,” Ilya says, his mind sharpening attentively, “Tell me what you need.”Or: They communicate just a little bit better and let themselves be just a little more vulnerable, both with each other and their people.

Summary
When Shane lets himself think about what it might be like at All Stars, there's a blurry gap where he's standing. Ilya will be wearing something stylish and sexy — probably a shiny shirt that makes Shane want to grab him and never let go. There's nothing Shane owns that fits in that category.
But Reebok and Rolex have both had him work with stylists for appearances in the past. He pulls up the photos of those events, and flips through the photos. He sends them to Rose.
