Grace knew exactly what he was doing.
He had been thinking about it all day, how Adrian had let out a deep, dark rumble last week when he’d pushed back for fun during a medical checkup (he knew she would never get mad at him for actually being uncomfortable), the way Rocky mad grabbed him by the hips with just a little more force when Grace was mouthy about trying the new dinner options his care team was testing out. They’d been so careful with him always, so gentle and attentive, and Grace loved them for it. But part of him had realized sometimes he didn’t want to be careful, sometimes he wanted them to take complete control and not be so soft with him.
So, when Adrian had asked him to help her organize the supply inventory in his house that evening, something that he normally would’ve been happy to help with, Grace looked her dead in the eye and said, “I’m okay.”
