Summary
There’s a specific brand of cigarette that plagues Subaru’s existence. Rarely will he ever touch the brand himself – only on particularly dark nights when the pain becomes so unbearable, so overwhelming, that all he can think to do is to drown himself in memories that refuse to fade with time until eventually, his body gives out from exhaustion and a dreamless sleep takes over his consciousness.
One night, Subaru smells it even before he opens the door. Not only does he not keep that particular brand in the apartment, but he hasn’t lit a cigarette for himself in a few hours. It ignites his previously subdued cravings and reminds him that he really could go for a smoke right about now, but he ignores it in favor of answering the door.

Summary
Subaru was used to seeing that night on repeat in his mind, every time he closed his eyes. Those dreams were expected, almost welcomed, in some sick sense of the word.
The dreams where Seishirou was there, on his bed, were new.

Summary
Kinda interesting, isn't it, how some divorced investigator like me with no life beyond his work will get to know within days what lies behind the face people present to the world in order to be accepted. You don't ever forget them, though you might wish you could. A lot of them will fade over time, but there are those few that you never forget.
This guy was one of them.
