“I tried,” came the crack of the voice before him. “I really did try to be a good person.”
“Hey…” Gregor took a step towards him and Heathcliff immediately flinched back, raising his hands slightly. The trembling only ramped up. “What’s all this about? C’mon, let’s go back to the bus and-”
A bark of a laugh escaped Heathcliff and echoed in the room like a gunshot, freezing Gregor in place. “There’s nowhere to go back to. Ain’t got no family, no friends, no Cathy. What’s the point of it all?”
