I never wish you to know that I see her face when I look at you. I feel her presence when I comfort you. I want your hands to be warm, to hold in what heat remains in your body when you stand in the wind, staring at a corpse as you perform the grueling task for which you are not properly compensated. I want you to know that I am the one who takes care of you, Will.
OR
Hannibal Lecter does not like the cold. The trauma of his past has made it impossible for him to keep from protecting the one and only person for whom he has grown to care in ways he refuses to acknowledge, for fear of the memories crushing him beneath their weight.
When Will questions his motives during the first cold drafts of the fall, Hannibal is forced to face the fears he harbors deepest in his heart; the insurmountable consequences of caring for someone else.

Summary
“Mr. Lecter—”
“Doctor,” he bit out before he could stop himself. Where did Jack find this one? He sounds impossibly young... too innocent to be making calls to men without the patience for him to gather his wits about him.
“Doctor Lecter,” came a squeaking response. “Forgive me for the interruption—”
“Please get to the point, Agent.” Another beat of silence, before the phrase he never wanted to hear spilled across the distance that separated them; words he dreaded as much as he did the cold. Words he hoped would never come, but knew to anticipate before the end.
“Agent Crawford asked that I call, sir. It’s Will Graham. I’m afraid he’s been injured.”
Hannibal’s phone fell from his numb fingers.
Will is hurt in the line of Jack's misguided sense of duty. In the wake of facing the very real possibility of mortality, can he or Hannibal keep their feelings in check?
