Summary
"Jack didn't know why he felt so drawn to you. Didn't know why you were the first one he sought out whenever cases sat heavily on his mind. His need to find you in those little moments nothing short of overwhelming. A dependence he wished he could deny.
All he knew was that he liked the way you smiled at him whenever he made a silly joke. A jab at his shoulder, soft, but impactful, as you turned your head away to laugh quietly— something Jack wished you wouldn't do."
OR: Your smile lights up the entire ER. Staff and patients alike flock towards you whenever things get dark, and you provide. Jack is no different, though he doesn't really admit the true hold your upbeat, cheerful personality has on him. Until it all falls away.
The ER realizes just how much your everlasting, positive presence has grounded the Pitt. And most of all, how much it suffers when it's gone.

Summary
He was wearing scrubs, just like you, but yours had paw prints on them and his didn’t. “Hi?” his mouth had quirked upwards at your confused response. He made himself comfortable as the gears of your mind turned, trying to figure out if you knew this guy and had been rude for the past three Tuesdays. He settled his elbows on the table before grabbing the menu from behind the napkin holder.
“What do you usually get here?” He’d asked, as though the two of you were old friends.
It’d shocked you enough that you sat up, spine touching the seatback for the first time since you’d sat down ten minutes ago, “Do we know each other?”
He’d glanced up from the menu, once again meeting your eyes, “No.” Back down to scan the menu, and then, in a softer voice, “But you have dried blood on your face,” your eyes widen at his words, “and I think it’s scaring a lot of the staff.”
----------
Or a slow burn between Dr. Jack Abbot and the reader, who works as a veterinary technician down the street from PTMC.

Joel gave you nothing.
He barely looked at you. Never spoke your name. He acted like you didn’t exist.
