There was a steady stream of tears running down his cheeks. It made her heart ache.
She reached up and gently wiped some of them away with the cuff of her sleeve. “Nothing’s wrong with you. Why would you think that?”
“I keep wanting to pretend I’m- I keep pretending…and it’s so shitty Robin. I’m so horrible. He doesn’t deserve that and I don’t know how to stop. I don’t know why I’m doing it, I don’t want to hurt him. I don’t want to hurt you. I’m not- I don’t know why I want to pretend I am.”
He was talking complete nonsense.
“Pretend you’re what Steve?”
A shuddering breath. “That I’m gay.”

That’s the conversation they were having.
“I hate to be the one to tell you this Steve, but no straight guy has the desire to pretend to be gay.”

She laughed, weirdly feeling called out. It wasn’t true she knew that but her face heated as if it was. “Wh- that’s- that’s crazy Eddie.”
“I’m just fucking with you, Wheeler. Don’t worry about it. It’s fine though, if you do.”
“I never said it wasn’t.”
“I know. Just putting it out there.”
