Tommy stumbles across a fae. There are probably about twenty different ways that could go, and every single one he knows ends up with him being dead or as good as dead.
But Nook isn't some scary monster from the stories he's heard, and Tommy can't help but trust him.
Or: Tommy runs into Sam in the woods, and can't gaslight, gatekeep, girlbosss his way out of this one.

He had drifted so far, playing truths and lies like such an innocent game that he was now wondering if there was any way back, if he even wanted to return to before.
The universe whispered to him the answers.
“A perfect fit,” Murmured the moon, its voice turning to sweet cherries while he fitfully slept.
“Ours to cherish,” Promised the sky, its command forcing the stars to shine- in such a way Tommy wasn’t sure he’d ever seen them properly before.
“Our sun, to complete us,” Echoed the stars, “Ours.”
“Ours.” It pledged.
Somewhere deep in the fae forest, a pebble slipped into a waterfall. Tommy awoke.

The thing was bundled tight in blankets. He had blond hair just like his father. Wilbur blinked curiously at it.
A thought hit him.
What was something fae often took?
A human’s firstborn!
Wilbur grinned. Perfect!
See? Wilbur knows how to be a fae. He doesn’t need anybody to teach him.
Or, Wilbur is a lonely fae who stumbles upon Phil and his baby. Wilbur decides Phil has trespassed so he gets to take something of value. Free brother!!!
