Chapter Text
Cold and isolated. That’s all it ever was.
The end is a name almost poetic for such a desolate dimension like this. In the end it feels like time itself has stopped, with no light to guide you, it’s only natural for people to lose themselves in this dimension. Fortunately, Minute had all the time of the world since voidlings don’t really follow the normal mortal rules, he was mostly a concept, he wasn’t supposed to exist in the physical realm which also means he’s a semi-immortal who can’t age more than what he’s right now, and that unfortunately makes him the perfect candidate to be the guardian of the end until there’s an ender dragon of taking his place, even though they were completely extinct as far as he knew so he wasn’t getting to the overworld anytime soon.
Minute doesn’t know the difference between night and day, he as a voidling doesn’t even need sleep, however at the same time in his mind sleep feels like the only thing telling him that he’s real, that he’s not a mere bug from the void, he deserves to breath, to have a body of his own because he’s alive. Nonetheless Minute doesn’t have enough time to drift away in his thoughts right now, he had to finish the job he got himself in first.

He was finishing counting the elytra’s and flagging anything that seemed out of place after some adventurer’s left when he heard a little chirp that sent chills to Minute’s spine, it was so quiet that he barely missed it, the reason he even considered searching the origin of such sound was the fear of a hybrid being lost in the outer islands since if the affirmation was true the hypothetical hybrid (most likely a bird hybrid) wouldn’t last conscious for much longer, and the theory was becoming truer by the minute, since the sound completely disappeared. “Is someone there?!” In a last desperate attempt, he shouted to the vast void in hopes of getting any response at all. To his surprise though there was, another chirp, louder this time, no, it was no longer a chirp, it was something more like a growl, a loud painful growl, that minute didn’t care about enough to register for now.
The sound came from one of the embarkations Minute had visited earlier, seriously how could he had missed whatever the origin of this was?! He’s supposed to be more careful, how’s he a guardian then? Whatever he will deal with it when he escorts whoever is there out the end safely.

Minute identified the creature immediately, he was hiding behind the central pillar of the embarkation with only its little tail and two blobs who he guessed were wings poking out, Minute now wasn’t sure this was an avian anymore, maybe a demonic one? They are rare but it’s the closest guess he had because he couldn’t really see whatever was behind the pillar properly. Although right now it was the least of his worries, since judging by the little he could see whoever was there didn’t look taller than a child, great, just great, now not only he had to somehow manage to get the child out but also without scaring him into jumping to its death, and then somehow be able to find its parents, god, this world really seemed to really hate him.
“Hey, can you come out of there please” He didn’t even know if the child understood him, but hey! He read that some children are calmed by the voice of others so it was worth a try. However, the child only responded with a hiss at his pitiful attempt of catching him.
“Please you can hurt yourself” Minute said now defeated while extending his hand to the avian(?) it was really pitiful to look at, and the kid seemed to have thought the same because he turned his body now to face Minute.
He was covered by a simple robe, and was definitely not an avian, so what was he? however his eyes were off, they kept darting towards the horizon, towards the void cruel and vast void surrounding them as if it was calling him and just before Minute could grab the child, he ran towards the edge of the embarkation swiftly and jumped to the void, flapping its little wings in a failed attempt to fly. It would have been a certain death, crashed in the endstone or running out of suffocating in the pressure of the void. Fortunately enough, Minute was able to grab it before falling completely off the ship wrapping it in his jacket which looked immense compared to it.

Minute is completely exhausted he had to carry the little demon all the way to his base and that got him nothing but scratches, at least now he knew that this was definitely not an avian, and maybe not a demon, he will take a proper look now that the kid is asleep. Minute also noticed that he was purple, surprisingly purple, his eyes where a mix of violet and a deep fuchsia, the whole child really reminded him of—Ender dragon… How could he be so naïve? The scams, the tail, the horns. Minute was standing before a race that was supposed to be almost extinct and it petrified him, his hands started moving before he could stop them, checking the little dragon features with clinical precision, it seems he was right he couldn’t no longer deny the presence of a dragon resting in his living room, at a moment he thought that if he pinched himself hard enough, he would wake up from whatever sick dream this was.
It was what he had hopped for all along, for someone to replace him as a guardian of the end so he could experience a life in the overworld, but this, this wasn’t it, the dragon looked like a mere hatchling therefore for all he knows It couldn’t guard shit, it was weak, it didn’t need to protect at his state, It needed protection, that’s where Minute decided something, he didn’t shout it, nor will he said it out loud, it was quite, too precise for someone who just decided to leave his peaceful life for something or someone he just met, if the dragon needed that protection, he would be it, even if it means he would have to learn how to raise a child by his own.
I really wonder how Minute will deal with this little demon now.
