Work Text:

Wifies and Parrot were the best of friends.

Everyone who knew them could see it immediately. They were practically inseparable. If someone saw Wifies somewhere, Parrot was probably nearby. If Parrot was causing chaos, Wifies was usually right behind him, trying to stop him from accidentally blowing something up.

They cared deeply for each other and always had each other's backs. Life simply wouldn't feel right without the other around. The two lived together in a small cozy house in the Farlands. It sat in the middle of a massive field filled with colorful flowers that stretched as far as the eye could see. Around the house were several little projects they had built together over the years.

There was a tiny wooden bridge, a vegetable garden that Parrot constantly forgot to water, and a beautiful pond surrounded by flowers where they often sat for hours doing absolutely nothing.

Neither of them would admit it, but those quiet moments were some of their favorites.

One morning, Wifies woke up much later than usual. That alone felt strange. Normally, he was always the first one awake. He would make breakfast while Parrot slept in, usually wrapped up in three blankets despite constantly claiming he wasn't cold.

Wifies rubbed his eyes and stretched. Then he heard a loud crash downstairs.

CLANG.

A few seconds later another noise followed.

BANG.

Wifies immediately sat upright.

"Oh no."

Whenever random crashing noises came from downstairs, there was usually only one explanation.

Parrot.

Wifies threw his blanket aside and sprinted out of his room.

"PARROT?!"

No response. That somehow made things worse.Wifies rushed downstairs and entered the kitchen. The sight waiting for him made him freeze.

Random objects covered every inch of the counter. There were jars, wires, batteries, screws, pieces of metal, duct tape, and several things Wifies couldn't even identify. And standing in the middle of it all was Parrot.Looking very proud of himself.

"Parrot..."

"Oh, hey."

"What the actual fuck are you doing?"

"I'm making a homemade grenade."

Silence.Wifies blinked.Parrot smiled wider.Wifies stared at him.Parrot continued smiling.

"You're making a WHAT?"

"A homemade grenade."

Wifies immediately grabbed Parrot by the shoulders and pulled him away from the counter.

"ARE YOU ACTUALLY INSANE?!"

"What?"

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHAT?!"

"It's not even finished yet."

"THAT DOESN'T MAKE IT BETTER!"

Wifies looked back at the pile of random junk.

"Where did you even get all this stuff?"

Parrot pointed somewhere.

"Around."

"'Around' is not an answer!"

"It is if you don't ask more questions."

Wifies groaned loudly. Every single day Parrot somehow found a new way to worry him. One day it was trying to climb onto the roof. Another day it was attempting to build a catapult. Before that it was trying to see if he could ride a shopping cart downhill. None of those ideas had ended well. This one somehow looked even worse.

"Nope."

"What do you mean nope?"

"I mean absolutely not."

"Wifies—"

"No."

"Come on—"

"No."

"You haven't even heard my plan."

"The fact that there's a plan is exactly why I'm saying no."

Parrot crossed his arms.

"You never let me have fun."

"I literally save your life twice a week."

"That's friendship."

"That's me preventing natural selection."

Parrot gasped dramatically.

"You wound me."

"Good."

Before Parrot could protest further, Wifies grabbed his hand.

"Come on."

"Where are we going?"

"Outside."

"Why?"

"Because I don't trust you alone in a room with whatever the fuck that is."

Parrot laughed as Wifies practically dragged him out of the house.A few moments later they reached the pond. The water sparkled beneath the morning sunlight. Gentle wind moved through the flowers around them.It was peaceful. The complete opposite of whatever had been happening in the kitchen.Wifies sat down beside the pond and pulled Parrot down next to him.

For a while neither of them spoke. The silence felt comfortable.Eventually Parrot glanced over.Wifies was still glaring at him.

"You know," Parrot said.

"What?"

"You look kinda cute when you're angry."

Wifies nearly choked.

"What?"

"It's true."

"Shut up."

"No seriously."

Parrot leaned closer.

"You get all protective and grumpy."

Wifies rolled his eyes.

"That's because you're always doing stupid shit."

Parrot grinned.

"See? Cute."

"Oh my god."

Wifies shook his head.

"You are impossible."

Parrot laughed.

"And yet you're still here."

"Unfortunately."

"You love me."

"Don't push your luck."

Parrot snorted. For a moment they simply looked at each other. Then Wifies smiled despite himself.Parrot noticed immediately.

"There it is."

"What?"

"The smile."

"I wasn't smiling."

"You totally were."

"I wasn't."

"You absolutely were."

Parrot pointed dramatically.

"I witnessed it."

"You're annoying."

"And you're smiling again."

Wifies groaned.

Parrot looked entirely too pleased with himself. Then suddenly Parrot launched forward and wrapped his arms around Wifies. The force knocked both of them backward into the flowers.

"PARROT!"

"What?"

"You're crushing me!"

"No I'm not."

"You literally are."

Parrot hugged him tighter.

"There. Now I'm crushing you."

"You idiot."

Parrot laughed.

"You know you can never stay mad at me."

Wifies sighed.

Unfortunately, Parrot was right. He could never stay angry at him for long.No matter how much trouble he caused. No matter how many headaches he created.Because underneath all the chaos, Parrot had one of the kindest hearts Wifies had ever known.Even if he was completely insane.

Then Wifies suddenly sneezed.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

"Oh, fuck."

Parrot immediately sat up.

"What happened?"

"Pollen."

Another sneeze.

"Oh."

Parrot grinned.

"I forgot you're allergic."

"Thank you for your concern."

"You're welcome."

"Let's just go inside."

Parrot helped him up.

Together they walked back toward the house.

The moment they entered, Wifies stared at the disaster in the kitchen.

The disaster stared back.

He sighed.

"Parrot."

"Yeah?"

"Clean this."

Parrot looked around.

"...Eventually."

"Now."

Parrot groaned dramatically.

"This is oppression."

"This is consequences."

While Parrot cleaned, Wifies worked on one of his projects.Hours passed. The afternoon became evening. Then evening became night.By the time darkness settled outside, Wifies was still working. And still drinking coffee. And still refusing to take a break.

Meanwhile Parrot had spent most of the day wandering around outside, exploring random places, and somehow returning with three rocks he claimed were "important."

At around nine o'clock, Parrot decided to check on his friend. He opened Wifies' bedroom door. Then froze. The room looked horrifying.Empty coffee cups covered nearly every surface.Papers were scattered everywhere.Wifies looked like he hadn't blinked in hours.

"OH MY GOD."

Wifies jumped.

"What?"

"Are you okay?!"

"Yeah."

"You look like a zombie."

"I'm fine."

"No you aren't."

"I'm working."

Parrot walked closer.

"Wifies."

"What?"

"You need sleep."

"No."

"Yes."

"No."

"Yes."

"I'm almost done."

"You said that three hours ago."

Wifies opened his mouth. Then closed it.Because Parrot was right.Again.Unfortunately.Parrot reached down and grabbed his hand.

"C'mon."

"No."

"C'mon."

"No."

Parrot started pulling.Wifies resisted.Parrot pulled harder.Wifies continued resisting. This continued for nearly a minute. Finally Parrot won.Mostly because Wifies was too exhausted to keep fighting.Parrot dragged him to bed.

"Wifies."

"I'm not tired."

"You literally look half dead."

"I'm functioning."

"Barely."

Parrot pushed him onto the mattress.Wifies immediately tried to sit back up.Parrot pushed him back down.

"Wifies."

"What?"

"Sleep."

"No."

Parrot sighed. Then he climbed onto the bed beside him and wrapped both arms around him.

"There."

Wifies froze.

"What are you doing?"

"If you won't sleep willingly, I'll make you sleep."

"That doesn't even make sense."

"Too bad."

Parrot settled comfortably.

Wifies stared at him.

Parrot stared back.

The room was quiet.

Eventually Wifies laughed softly.

"You are such a weirdo."

"Takes one to know one."

"I hate that you're right."

"I know."

For the first time all day, Wifies finally relaxed. The stress from hours of work slowly faded away. His eyes felt heavy.Parrot noticed.

"See?"

"Don't say it."

"I told you so."

Wifies groaned.

"I literally told you not to say it."

Parrot laughed.Within minutes, both of them began drifting off.Outside, the wind gently rustled the flowers around the house.Inside, everything felt peaceful. No homemade grenades. No dangerous experiments. No chaos. At least for tonight.

Because knowing Parrot, tomorrow would probably be another disaster waiting to happen. And knowing Wifies, he'd be right there trying to stop it.
