January 26, 1942
Monika yawned as morning light seeped in through the blinds of her bedroom. Or their bedroom, because she and Felicia always slept together (Sleep in the same bed, that is. Don't get the wrong idea). Monika slowly pushed herself up from the bed with her elbows, sitting upright. Her eyes blinked open, letting out a slight sigh as she moved her hand to massage her temple. She looked over at the girl laying next to her. Monika took a moment to study Felicia, her long auburn ponytail halfway undone, long strands freed from the tie. She was beautiful, really. Her mouth was slightly parted taking steady breaths as her hands gently clutched the sheets around her. The light leaking from the window painted her tan face a pretty yellow-orange color.
Monika groaned as she forced herself to look away. She used her left hand to rub her eyes and her other hand to nudge Felicia. "Wake up." She told Felicia, pushing her body back and forth. When she was given no reply, she shook more frantically. "Feli. Up." Monika's voice was more serious now, and she stopped shaking Felicia once her eyes sleepily blinked into consciousness.
"Hm?" Felicia whined. "Just five more minutes..." Felicia did this every single time. They had to get up every single day and she would protest every damn time. And every day Monika was not in the mood to deal with her bullshit.
Monika yanked Felicia up to sit up on the bed before climbing out of bed herself. Monika was always dressed in loose sweatpants and a baggy T-shirt to sleep with. She tugged on Felicia more, forcing her out of bed.
"So mean..." Felicia whined, stumbling out of bed with her sleepwear of a tank top and shorts on.
"Save the whining. We have work to do today." Monika avoided her gaze. The sleepwear hugged every curve of her body, and when she stretched her top would ride up
They took turns in the shower, Monika always going first because Felicia would use up all the hot water. They shared the same bathroom mirror, Feliciano brushing her curls and Monika combing out her short blonde hair.
"Ow!" Felicia winced in slight pain as the bandage tightened around her breasts. Monika was behind her, wrapping a strong bandage around Felicia's chest to make it seem flatter. She did this to herself, too. If they were taken as women, they would not be able to serve big fighting roles. But, being the personifications of their country, they would do whatever it takes.
Monika wore a dark green Waffenrock with ranks above her left chest. Her breasts were also pulled back. This made breathing hard... but she was determined. Monika could easily pass as a man, the only thing that would normally tell her apart is her slightly softer features and her very obvious big chest. Monika slipped a wallet in one of her pockets, filled with some Reichsmarks, a note, and a picture of Felicia in the inner picture pocket. It would be romantic, if their love wasn't so forbidden.
It was definitely harder for Felicia. She wore a black coat. Her hair was long so Monika would tie it in a bun for her, and it was easy to cover up with her Italian military hat. She was lucky Monika let her keep her long hair, because if it was up to her she would cut it short so it was easier to hide. Her face was obviously more feminine too, so despite her pleas, Monika would trim her eyelashes and use a cream that matched her tanned skin to apply on the bottom of her lip so it looks thinner.
"Monika, you will be at your base, right?." Felicia asked, pulling her curl loose from under the hat.
"Ja."
"Do you have any orders for me?"
To be honest, Felicia was pretty useless for the war. Last time they tried to put Italy on invading the Mediterranean, but they were pushed back from the British so Monika had to bring in her troops to save the Italian army. Felicia also tried to invade Greece... and that ended with the German troops having to bail out the Italians.
Monika and Sakura were doing almost all the work for this axis. But Monika would never tell her that... and she did really enjoy Felicia's company during the war.
"Go help Sakura today." Monika commanded. Sakura always found something for Felicia to do.

Monika loaded food and ammo onto a huge German supply plane. The sky was grey and gloomy, the sounds of gunshots and explosions harrasing her eardrums. Each crate she picked up made her veins slightly buldge. She was put on the job for a reason, however, as she did it better than most of the men.
"Hey Mon-" A familiar voice yelled from behind Monika. "Markus! Hey man!" Markus was Monika's disguise name. If she went by Monika, it would definitely be questioned. Monika spun around to be face to face with her older sister, Julchen. Julchen was a Prussian albino with wine red eyes and short white hair. Before the war it was long, but she had cut it to disguise herself easier. Her chest was also flattened, and her face was naturally able to pass as a guy's (a really pretty guy). She was incredibly cocky and overly confident.
"...Julian." Monika acknowledged. Julian was the masculine name Julchen would go by.
"Nice seeing you here, mein 'Bruder'. You need help?"
"Nein. I got it."
"Great! Well, once you are done prepare the belly of the plane and help me load in the tanks!"
The air smelt like smoke and gunpowder. Monika lowered a ramp from the plane, her muscles straining. She wiped sweat of her forehead as she cued for Julchen who was driving the plane and a couple other guys on the side to enter the airplane. Soon, the plane was full with supplies. Monika sat on a crate in the belly with another soldier as they watched the items.
The pilot soon took off. They were just transferring supplies to another German base, nothing too serious.
"Trinken?" The other soldier offered. Monika looked over at him. She had been in the same plane with him multiple times, but he was very annoying and she tried her best to avoid him. The man held out a canteen, and she wanted to refuse, but at that very moment she felt her throat going dry. "Danke." Monika took the canteen, waterfalling the water into her mouth.
Some time passed, the plane ride smooth as they waited for their cue to release the things.
"Is this your girlfriend?"
A pause.
Monika looked up. What?
The soldier had Monika's wallet in his hand as he studied the brown haired girl in the inside photo. The actual nerve. How'd he even get that? Her eyebrows furrowed before finally focusing on his question.
Monika paused. Felicia? Her girlfriend? That's absurd. She was not gay, she could not be gay. Being a German soldier in the early 1900's and homosexual was a death wish. "...No." Monika answered hesitantly. "She is a friend."
"Friend? Yeah, right. Like a man like you would be only 'friends' with such a pretty Mädchen like this."
Right. Monika was in a male disguise. She tended to forget that a lot. But she still got a weird taste in her mouth if she said yes, because she was still a woman. "She is a friend." Monika repeated.
The soldier's thumb gently moved over back and forth on the picture of Felicia. The sight made Monika's fists clench. "Such a pretty girl... if you won't date her can't I? You should let me meet her, I'd treat her so well." He smirked.
No. Obviously not. Monika would not let him step a foot close to Felicia. The thought made her blood boil... but she was unsure why. She shouldn't care, Felicia was a single woman. She was not her girlfriend or anything, she had no right to be this possessive.
"Definitely not."
"Why?"
"I am not discussing this with you." Monika snatched her wallet back, closing it shut and stuffing it in her pocket.

Meanwhile, Felicia was with Sakura in her Japanese hut. Sakura had made her a rice bowl that Felicia was eating with chopsticks (very badly).
"This is so good!" Felicia declared, though it sounded distorted as she was still chewing on the rice.
"I'm glad you like it." Sakura said quietly, drawing on a peice of paper as she made plans on the war.
Felicia kept eating, sitting down on one of the Japanese mats and crossed her legs. The chopsticks still wobbled in her grip, taking big bites. She liked Sakura. She really did. But something about not being with Monika gave her stomach an empty void.
Monika's voice replayed in her mind. The way she was so strict yet so caring to her... How hot she was when working out with sweat making her face glisten. Every detail about Monika danced in Felicia's head. It was weird. Why was she thinking about her best friend this much?
"Feli-chan?" Sakura asked, studying Felicia's spaced out daze. Felicia blinked a few times.
"I'm okay! Hey Sakura?"
"Hm?"
"What does it mean if you keep thinking about this person a lot and they don't ever escape your head? And you end up really missing them when they arent near and everytime you close your eyes you see their face?"
A pause
Felicia had said that all with almost no pause. Sakura needed a moment to take it all in.
"Uhm. Well, I think you might be in love."
