It was worth it

Summary:

Soobin never really had any friends.

But he didn't mind, he always lived with the mindset that friends would just drain his energy.

That they weren't necessary.

Which he wasn't, he was always in his own little bubble and he was fine with that.

He didn't even like the people in his class to begin with, they were all so loud and annoying.. he didn't want to associate with that.

Chapter Text

Soobin never really had any friends.

But he didn't mind, he always lived with the mindset that friends would just drain his energy.

That they weren't necessary.

He was a straight A's student, but that doesn't really bring you anything if you're not sociable enough.

Which he wasn't, he was always in his own little bubble and he was fine with that.

He didn't even like the people in his class to begin with, they were all so loud and annoying.. he didn't want to associate with that.

* * *

It was a normal day for him. People were loud and annoying as usual and all he wanted to do was study in peace without people either being loud or looking and laughing at him, because for some reason someone being smart is so funny to them.

The teacher came into the room with 2 diplomas in his hands. He stood in front of the classroom and began speaking.

"The results of the mathematic olympics arrived. Some people were better than the others and for those i have these." He said as he pointed at the diplomas.

"The first one goes to… Choi Soobin!"

Soobin got up and stood next to the teacher.

No one clapped.

"The second one goes to… Huening Kai!"

Kai also stood up and walked to the other side.

Everyone clapped.

Except for one person.

Not that Soobin cared, it was just something that he could think about while standing there.

The person who didn't clap was Choi Beomgyu.

Soobin wondered why, but he quickly shook the thought away when he realized that Beomgyu was most likely just tired since he always slept trough the whole school day.

But it was still kinda weird..

* * *

The next class was P.E. Great. Soobin thought to himself.

Being good at school in general doesn't automatically make you good at everything.

The "everything" in this case for Soobin is P.E.

He walked to the back of the class to the lockers to grab his P.E uniform, only for it to be nowhere to be seen.

Soobin looked to his side only to see his classmates giggling to themselves while staring at him.

Great.

He glanced over to the other side where the trash bin was. Of course his P.E uniform was in the trash. Now he had to live trough this with his regular uniform.

* * *

"Okay today we will be running. You need to run at least 12 laps, otherwise you will fail."

Everyone sighed.

"Really? Can't we just play basketball or something?"

Some guy that Soobin doesn't even know the name of said and everyone else seemed to agree.

"No. This is the least that you can do. And Taehyun since you said that now I'm excepting you to be able to run even after finishing the 12."

"Come on it will be fine. 12 laps? Really? A middle schooler could finish this in less than 7 minutes!"

Pretty much everyone except for Soobin laughed at that. He would really rather play basketball. Actually no, he would rather study like a normal person.

"Exactly! Everyone listen to Beomgyu!" The coach said enthusiastically in return.

"Okay now get to the starting line and i better see u done in 7 minutes just like Beomgyu said."

Beomgyu and Taehyun were in the front betting who would get back first while Soobin was standing in the very back in his school uniform.

"Dude i don't care that u finished first last year, ive been training really hard recently. This will be a piece of cake for me!" Taehyun said with full confidence.

"Yeah sure, see you never." Beomgyu laughed out and right after he finished his sentence the coach whistled, meaning that they can start now.

Soobin was doing fine during the first 4 laps, after that it just pretty much kept going downhill.

He was on his 7th lap when suddenly Beomgyu passed him while telling someone that he was on his 10th lap.

Soobin was jealous.

Not because Beomgyu was good at P.E, but because it would be over for him sooner.

Beomgyu finished his 12 laps while barely being out of breath. Of course he was the first one to be done which made him happy. But not because he was the first one to finish. But because he finished before Taehyun and he could now laugh at him.

"Wow Beomgyu, you know you're really good at this. Did you ever consider going to an athletic centered school?" The coach questioned.

"No, not really."

"And would you want to? With these scores that you've been getting for god knows how long, I could pull some strings and make some professional schools concider you."

"Hmm… I could think about it but I'm not sure."

The slight smirk that the coach had on disappeared, turning into a disappointed look instead.

"Okay… you still have time to think about it until this school year ends. If you're gonna be interested you know where to find me."

"Alright got it!" Beomgyu replied and quickly turned around to go sit on the benches.

Taehyun finished running right after they finished their conversation.

"Okay taehyun you seem in a pretty good condition for someone who didn't want to do this. You're second"

"Second? Really? Who was first?" Taehyun asked even though he already knew the answer.

"I think that you know." The coach replied, it was like he read his mind Taehyun thought.

He sighed and went to sit next to Beomgyu.

"See I'm first again!" Beomgyu said all smily.

"Yeah whatever, I think that i just overworked myself yesterday."

"Seriously? Not even a person who has iq lower than 100 would belive that!"

Pretty much everyone finished already, except for Soobin who was on his 11th lap.

"Dude look at him he runs like a zombie!" Someone laughed out loudly enough for even Soobin who was on the other side of the track to hear, which he thankfully didn't, but he did recive some looks.

"Oh my god i know! Is that even possible? How can one be so good at studying but suck so much with avarage middle school P.E" some guy who finished 10th said.

The same guy who said that he looks like a zombie stood up and started imitating him. Which got a lot of people laughing, except for Beomgyu, Taehyun and Kai, who was sitting alone in the corner.

"Whats his deal?" Taehyun whispered to Beomgyu.

"I don't know but its really pissing me off." Beomgyu replied in a clearly annoyed tone.

"Should we go tell him something-" before Taehyun could even finish his sentence Beomgyu took off his shoe and threw it at the guy.

"Hey who did that!" The guy hissed out of pain. When he turned around and saw that it was Beomgyu he frooze immediately.

"Hey bring me back me shoe." Beomgyu said while still having an annoyed tone.

The guy didn't even look up and brought it back to him.

"Hey wait" Beomgyu insisted. "Do i even know your name?"

The guy was about to reply but Beomgyu stopped him. "No actually don't tell me I don't want to know. Go back and don't even think about doing something like this again."

The guy immediately ran off and after that he just sat there waiting for the class to end.

Soobin finally finished running, he was completely out of breath but at least he was alive.

"Soobin." The coach sighed.

"You should really pay attention to physical activities and not only to studying."

Soobin didn't even reply, not because he didn't want too, but because he was too out of breath.

"Just go and sit down."

As he walked to the benches he could feel all the eyes burning on him.. but it was different this time.

He didn't feel only the eyes of the people who would probably laugh at him later.. no this was different.

But that feeling completely disappeared after he heard laughter.

They probably weren't even laughing at him, but he didn't care. At least the weird feeling went away.

* * *

After P.E ended Soobin went to the dressing room, since there was a vending machine and it was the only one that still worked and actually had good water.

Once he got in the dressing room he got cornered by the guys who were making fun of him while he was still running plus some more people who either just hated Soobin or were appart of their friend group, Soobin didn't really know

"Whats it with you and Beomgyu?" The "leader" who said Soobin ran like a zombie asked while holding him by the collar.

"What do you mean whats between me and Beomgyu? We never even talked." Soobin stated in a sort of confused voice, he really didn't know what he was talking about, Soobin isn't even sure if him and Beomgyu ever made eye contact.

"Oh dont act dumb now, if you really don't know then why was he defending you like crazy during P.E!" He hissed at him, not too loud for people who were outside to hear but loud enough to make Soobin shiver.

""Wait what, he was?"" Soobin thought to himself.

And then Soobin got an idea.

"Look if you really have a problem with us talking, then talk to Beomgyu about it because i have no idea whats your problem."

Whatever this "friendship" thing that they aperantly have going on could go in use for Soobin, since from what he knows the guy is terrified of him.

The guy grabbed Soobin's collar thighter, his face getting more and more red by the second.

Fuck.

""I am done for"" he thought.

Until both Taehyun and Beomgyu walked into the changing room.

That was when the guy dropped Soobin while acting like nothing happened.

But they did notice and Beomgyu specifically didn't seem so happy.

"Whats going on?" Taehyun asked looking at both of them, but the question was mostly for Soobin to answer.

Beomgyu looked at Soobin once and then kept giving the guy a death stare not even acknowledging the rest of his friend group.

"We were just playing around, right Soobin?" The guy stated while smiling, running a hand trough Soobin's hair.

"No I want to hear it from Soobin himself."

Soobin was about to say something but then he realised that he doesn't even know what. He does want to say that he cornered him and was probably about to beat him up. But if he would say that he would most likely dig himself deeper into this mess.

So instead he answered with something that could currently help him to get out of this, at least for a couple of minutes.

"He's right, we were just playing around its nothing serious."

He thought that he said the right thing.

The guy seemed happy.

Taehyun seemed confused.

But the look that Beomgyu gave him was horrific, he understands why the guy is so scared of him.

"Is that so?" Beomgyu asked while giving Soobin a look that was probably terrifying for him, but it was supposed to be an invite to actually say what happened.

"Yes its true." Soobin replied. The hold that the guy was holding him in slowly getting more loose.

"Alright then. Taehyun, Soobin let's go."

"Huh-" Before Soobin could finish Beomgyu pulled him out of the room leaving Taehyun inside.

"Why did you lie?" Beomgyu said in a tone that was both slightly annoyed but also for some reason angry, while holding Soobin's shoulders.

"I didn't lie."

"Yes you did."

"How would you know."

"I saw him holding you by the collar."

"And you are holding me by my shoulders."

"That's different."

"Is it?" Soobin said while pushing his way out of Beomgyu's hold.

"And stop defending me, I can do this on my own. The only reason why i got pulled into this mess was because you defended me during P.E."

"So you do admit that yall werent just playing around."

"Just leave me alone Beomgyu."

After Soobin said that he turned around and walked out, leaving Beomgyu stunned.

"What was that about?" Taehyun asked once he finally came back from the dressing room.

"Nothing don't worry about it."

* * *

School ended and everyone was home, including Soobin.

But the thing about Soobin was that he was studying all the time.

Most people would either go out somewhere after school or just stay home and do nothing just because.

But Soobin isn't like that, once he gets home he starts studying. He even fell asleep on his desk multiple times due to that.

It was already pretty late, his dad wasn't home because he was on a work trip and his mom doesn't live with them since she had to move somewhere far due to work.

He was in his room studying as usual when suddenly the doorbell rang.

He stood up and went to stand near the door.

"Who is this?"

"Delivery!" A voice that sounded very familiar answered.

"But i didn't order anything."

"Huh… the number on the paper matches though!"

Soobin finally opened the door only to be greeted with Beomgyu looking all confused.

If Beomgyu wouldn't annoy him in school today he would look cute, too bad he did annoy him.

"Hey its you! Soobin!" Beomgyu said with a smile forming on his face.

"Uh yeah, I didn't order anything though."

"But it says so on the paper! Look!" Beomgyu showed him the paper.

"The order was placed on 294, this is apartment 293."

"Oh." Beomgyu could only pout in return.

"Well since I'm already here you should offer me some water!" Beomgyu smiled.

"What."

"Yeah were classmates afterall. Think of this as me being a visitor, its basic manners to offer your host a glass of water."

"I guess-" Soobin didn't even finish his sentence and Beomgyu was already inside.

"Wow this is a really nice apartment you know? Your parents must be making a lot of money!"

Soobin stood there, still stunned by this whole thing.

He went to the fridge to grab a bottle of water while Beomgyu was still looking around the apartment.

"Here drink this" Soobin handed Beomgyu the bottle.

"Oh right the water." Beomgyu opened the lid and drank the whole bottle in one go.

Beomgyu sighed out of relief. "Wow thank you id most likely die out of dehydration otherwise, its been getting really hot lately don't you think?"

"I guess" Soobin said in hopes of Beomgyu getting the memo and realising that he should leave… which he did since he looked pretty disappointed by the response.

"Okay! I feel like its time for me to leave. I still need to deliver the food afterall."

"Yeah, you're right."

"Well thanks for the water, see you tomorrow!"

"Yeah bye" Soobin replied before shutting the door shut.

Today was a very weird day.

* * *

Soobin always arrived to school way earlier before anyone else. He followed his usual rutine of opening the windows so the class wouldn't smell, setting his things up and as always studying.

Beomgyu was always there too, but not with the same intentions as him.

Beomgyu was always asleep either in his chair laying comfortably on his desk, or he would stack more desks together to form some sort of a "bed" if you can even call it that.

Today he was in his chair.

Only now Soobin actually noticed how good Beomgyu looked like.

No wonder he was popular.

Soobin opened the windows and rolled the blinds up so there would be at least some light, which woke Beomgyu up.

Beomgyu groaned still being half asleep "roll them back down."

"No."

"Please."

"No."

He giggled. "You're cute when you refuse."

"What?" Soobin questioned being taken aback by that.

Before he pulled himself back together Beomgyu was asleep again.

It was a mistake, it had to be.

Beomgyu most likely didn't even know that Soobin was the person in the room.

Right?

* * *

People finally started arriving, with Beomgyu still being asleep.

After some time the bell rang Beomgyu finally sort of woke up and the teacher came into the room with a new kid that no one else seemed to recognise.

"Everyone this is Yeonjun your new classmate, everyone say hi."

No one reacted, except for Kai who waved at him. Kai was just like that, he was nice to everyone and no one minded him, but for some reason he didn't really have any friends, Soobin doesn't even know why.

"Yeonjun please take a seat next to Kai" He said as he pointed to the empty seat next to Kai.

Yeonjun walked over and smiled shyly

"Hi I'm Yeonjun."

"Hi Yeonjun! I'm Kai! I'll make sure that you will feel welcomed."
