Work Text:
It's late at night. The sun is fully gone, replaced by the white, glistening moon. It's light is much softer than that of the sun's. It makes everything look so much simpler.
You aren't sure what time it is, but Chuuya had decided to come over a few hours ago. He said he came back from a shitty mission and just wanted a drink. He always said he liked drinking with someone else.
That felt like forever ago.
A few hours ago you had just come back from work. You were able to get out a little bit earlier today given there was no missions. Thank God.
You took a shower, spending a little longer than your water bill would've liked, but who cares? You felt the need to spoil yourself tonight. The soap still filled the air as you turned the shower off. A sudden kick of the AC made you shiver, so you hastily wrapped your body in a towel.
You got dressed, running a hand through your hair. You could brush it later, you told yourself.
Leaving the bathroom, you turned towards your living room, flipping the TV on. You leaned against the back of your couch, going through streaming services. Nothing caught your attention so you just turned on some music.
Next on your stuff to do was make dinner. You had pulled out some chicken this morning to make pasta. Your stomach was growling at the thought of it.
You brought a pot of water to a boil and scrolled on your phone while you waited. The familiar notes of an American artist filled the room and you hummed along. Then a text notification popped up on your screen.
Chuuya Nakahara
"You care if I come over?"
Your eyes widened. That was a surprise. You scoffed, shaking your head with a smile. You texted back.
Me
"Depends. Pastas for dinner. You down?"
Chuuya Nakahara
"Depends. Are you gonna poison me?"
Me
"No.. See you in a bit?"
He didn't say anything else and just liked the message. You smiled and set your phone down. You should probably clean your apartment a bit. You looked around and winced.
Definitely.
You cleaned up your living room, fixing the blanket across the back of the couch, cleaning the coffee table, and then sweeping the floor.
You examined the room one last time and smiled.
A knock came at the door. You opened the door and saw Chuuya. He was dressed in his normal attire, but looked tired. Your eyes ran over him, he had a few hairs out of place, his jacket was hanging off one shoulder, and his hat was out of place. In his hand was a bag, a wine bottle was clearly seen but you couldn't dechiper what else was in there.
"You look like you've seen better days," you teased. Chuuya rolled his eyes and leaned against your doorway. "So funny." You backed up and let him in. He thanked you and walked to your counter. He set the bag down and pulled out the bottle of wine.
"What'd you bring?" You asked, leaning on the counter. Chuuya pulled out a thing of cake. "Whoa, wine and cake? You're making this seem like a date," you smiled. Chuuya waved you off, "Figured I'd bring something since you let me come over."
Bubbling reached your ears and you yelped. You wheeled towards the stove and turned down the heat. The water bubbled over and spilt on the stove top. You groaned quietly.
Chuuya came up behind you and wiped down the stove top. You watched him as he looked down at the towel. You didn't even ask. His eyes met yours and he smiled, "What?" You shook your head, saying nothing.
You grabbed the noodles and poured them in the water. At least they would cook faster.
Chuuya sat down at your counter, uncorked the bottle of wine and poured a glass. "Want some?" He asked, glancing up at you. You nodded, stirring the noodles.
He poured the wine into another glass and came to you. He extended the glass. You took it and smiled, "Thanks." He shrugged and raised his glass. You raised your glass and yours hit his.
You both took a sip, well, Chuuya took a large drink. The wine, tasting a lot like berries, ran down your throat, leaving a warm feeling. It had been a while since you had a glass of wine this good.
"So what's the occasion for the wine?" You asked, taking another drink. Chuuya rubbed the stem of the glass between his index and thumb. "Just came back from a mission, it was...not the most fun," he ended with a sigh. You nodded slowly, you understood that.
"Been sober for a bit, huh?" Chuuya rolled his eyes at your tease, "I don't drink on missions, you know that." You chuckled.
You stirred the noodles once more, taking a mental note to take them off in a minute. "Would you grab me a strainer? They're in the cabinet by the sink," you asked. Chuuya nodded, setting his glass down and bending down to the cabinet. "Which one?" He asked, sticking his head inside the cabinet.
"The black one," you turned the heat off. He pulled it out and set it inside the sink. You went to go grab the pot but a red aura surronded it. It then went up and floated over to the sink. You watched it for a moment before looking at Chuuya, who was using his ability to make the pot float.
"I could've carried it." He shrugged, tilting the pot so the water and noodles fell into the strainer. "I know, but you could've burnt yourself," he said nonchalantly, watching the pot.
You smiled and grabbed some bowls. Chuuya grabbed the strainer and poured the noodles back in the pot. He opened the bottle of sauce, you didn't feel like making your own sauce, and poured it in. He mixed the sauce in and gestured for a bowl.
You handed him one and grabbed two forks. He filled the bowl with the pasta and then set it back on the counter. He took the other bowl from your hand and filled it. You took the one on the counter and stabbed your fork in.
"Thanks for helping me," you said with a smile. Chuuya nodded, following behind you, "Thanks for dinner." The two of you sat at the counter right next to each other. You refilled your glass and Chuuya did the same.
The two of you ate in silence, listening to the music in the background. You waited for Chuuya to finish, planning to wash his bowl for him. But you didn't get the chance as he grabbed yours and his. You opened your mouth to say something, but he cut you off.
"You made dinner, I can at least wash the dishes," he got up and headed to the sink. You scoffed softly and watched him. He had taken off his jacket during dinner so he just stood in his vest, shirt, and pants. He leaned over just a bit, letting his shirt ride up.
You looked down and bit your lip.
Come on, you're better than that.
The sink turned off, which brought your attention back to Chuuya. He turned around, drying off his hands, and said, "Dessert?"
You nodded, grabbing two more forks. The two of you sat across from each other at the counter. Chuuya opened the cover. He bought a chocolate cake and you nearly started drooling. You loved some cake.
You two just stabbed your forks in and ate the cake like that. No point in dirtying up more dishes.
The music changed from pop to a softer tone. The sun had fully set by now, the moonlight pouring in from the kitchen window. You took a drink of your wine, almost finished with it.
Chuuya poured some more in his glass and took a drink.
The two of you chatted, getting lost into conversation, drinks, and food.
You didn't know how much time passed before Chuuya started to look...different. Not the drunk different (maybe a little) but in this light, the soft moonlight, he looked so different than the abrasive Chuuya you knew at the Port Mafia.
Are you sick of me? Would you like to be?
You laughed and wondered if it was too loud. God, you hated laughing too loud. You eventually started to feel full so you put down your fork. Chuuya soon followed.
I'm trying to tell you something. Something that I already said.
"And then Tachihara burst into my office talking about some stuff with the Armed Detective Agency," you chuckled. Chuuya laughed softly, "You already told me that."
You paused and then looked down at your glass. "I guess I did," you smiled a little. Chuuya tilted his head, "So what happened with the Detective Agency?" You looked up, realizing that he was trying to keep the conversation going.
You like a pretty boy with a pretty voice.
You looked over at him, finishing a story you've already told before. Chuuya sat in the chair, swishing the wine in his glass. "Yeah?" He said with a certain tone in his voice. You bit your lip, that voice was starting to make you crazy.
And was he always this pretty? With that hair, all tousled like that, and his eyes. Gosh, his eyes! You could stare at those things for hours.
Who is trying to sell you something. Something that you already have.
"Have you bought this wine before?" Chuuya asked, going to pour himself another glass. His hand seemed a little shaky. You put yours on his and helped him pour. "I've bought a few wines, so maybe," you said with a smile.
He set the bottle down, but kept your hand in place. His hand felt warm, so warm compared to your cold hands. You gripped it softly.
But if you're too drunk to drive, and the music is right, she might you let you stay but just for the night.
An hour later, Chuuya tried to stand up, but he almost came falling back down. You watched him with concerned eyes. He couldn't drive home like this. You tried to get up yourself, but sat back right down.
You certainly couldn't drive him.
"Do you wanna stay for the night?" You asked. The words kinda came involuntary, but you didn't want Chuuya to drive home drunk. Chuuya looked up at you, his eyes kinda sparkling.
Whoa, his eyes sparkle...
Chuuya didn't say anything for a moment, but he nodded. "Why not? If I'm gonna be drunk at someone's apartment I'd want it to be yours," he smiled a little. You smiled back, your heart rate picking up.
And if she grabs your hand, and drags you along she might want a kiss before the end of this song.
You grabbed his hand once more and pulled him up from the counter. You led him to your room. You wondered what the hell you were doing for a moment. But then that moment ended with a fuck it and you laid Chuuya on your bed.
Chuuya sat on your bed and pulled his shoes off. "Thanks for letting me stay the night," he said softly. You nodded and looked down at him. Your eyes softened.
You saw the record player in the corner of your room. An idea came to your head.
You put a record on and let the soft rock music played. It was one of your favorite songs, one that always played on repeat. It accompanied some of your late nights. Those late nights were your favorites.
Because love can burn like a cigarette and leave you with nothing. And leave you with nothing.
You sat down on the bed beside him. "Do you need anything?" You asked softly. He shook his head, which hit your shoulder. Your heart stopped for a moment and then looked down at him.
His hair was a mess, some of it hanging off your shoulder. His eyes weren't all the way shut. His hand grabbed yours.
While the others talked, we were listenin' to Lover's Rock in her bedroom. In her bedroom.
The sweet, romantic lyrics played in the bedroom making the moment seem intimate. Well, more than it already was.
Chuuya looked up at you and stared at your lips for a few seconds. You watched as his eyes trailed back up to yours. His hand slid up your face, cupping your cheek. You felt your cheeks begin to burn.
"Do you mind if I...?" You trailed off, never finishing his question. But the unspoken word stood in the air.
"Yeah," he responded softly, leaning in. You leaned in too, closing the space.
His lips felt soft against yours, the lingering taste of wine and chocolate still there. It was sweet. You brought a hand up to his waist and held him. He pulled himself up and wrapped a hand around your own waist.
You came up for a breath of air before diving back in. Chuuya smiled against your lips, his thumb rubbing against your cheek softly. He leaned back against your bed.
And if you start to kiss and the record skips.
The sound of the record skipping pulled the two of you back to reality. The two of you stared at each other before laughing softly.
Flip it over...
You grabbed the record, flipped it over, and turned back to the bed.
And sit a little closer.
You climbed back on the bed and sat closer to Chuuya. You watched his eyes follow you. His hand grabbed your waist, pulling you back in.
You smiled and kissed him once more.
But if you're too drunk to drive, and the music is right, she might you let you stay but just for the night.
And if she grabs your hand, and drags you along she might want a kiss before the end of this song.
Because love can burn like a cigarette and leave you with nothing. And leave you with nothing.
Chuuya looked up at you, biting at your lower lip. "Can I ask you a question?" You could hear your heartbeat in your ear, barely hearing him. You kissed the corner of his lips before nodding.
"How many men have you kissed?" Chuuya asked, his eyes running over you. You propped yourself up, looking down at him. You smiled, "Very few."
His head tilted to the side, "But you offered me a kiss, why?" You blushed, looking to the side. You sighed, "Such a foolish reason, I'm afraid."
"I just wanted to kiss you," you say before kissing him once more.
Do-do, do-do do-do do-do. Do-do, do-do do-do do.
Do-do, do-do do-do do-do. Do-do, do-do do-do do.
You two laid down together, your head resting on his chest. His hand rested on your head, playing with your hair.
"So...when's our next date?" Chuuya asked. You chuckled and ran a hand over his chest. "When I'm sober," you muttered. He laughed a little and yawned.
Because love can burn like a cigarette (Do-do, do-do do-do do-do. Do-do, do-do do-do do.
"Come here," he mumbled. You looked at him and then pulled yourself up. "Yeah?"
And leave you alone with nothing (do-do, do-do do-do do-do)
His eyes softened and he leaned in to kiss your cheek. "Goodnight," he whispered. "Goodnight," you whispered back.
And leave you alone with nothing (do-do, do-do do-do do-do)
The soft whispers were the last thing heard of the night. Except for the last notes of the soft song playing from the record. It ended one of the nights you would never forget.
