Work Text:
“Mr. Erik, is it true that Captain America saved you from Auschwitz?” a little boy around six asks me, his hand still raised.
I nod once. “Its a long story, but I think we have it around here somewhere.” I look around the Smithsonian, at all the memories behind glass.
“What was it like for you?” another person asks.
I sit down near the wall of all the commandos uniforms, specifically in front of Steve's, almost like he's standing behind me protecting me. I let out a slight chuckle, full of more pain than I would show in front of this tour group.“Well, it was 1942 , I had just lost my mom. When they came in to save all of us. I was 13 and my powers had just manifested. When a taller man will dark brown hair walked up to me-”
“Was it Logan?” someone asks ,cutting me off.
I shake my head with a small sad smile. “It was Bucky , Captain America's best friend.” I lied quickly partially at least Bucky did save me that day. But Logan ,Peggy and I had decided a long time ago to keep their romance a secret; it's their story to tell, not ours.
I watch as some of the kids in the tour group start to get excited. I smile “looks like we have some Bucky fan's”
A few kids and adults nod. “He had just taken out most of the guards in the camp when I was running from one of the guards still left.” I pause thinking how to make this more kid friendly. We have rules ,nothing too graphic, especially if the kids are under 6 or so.
“Bucky saved me from the guard then asked if I would want to be part of his group until we found my family.” I say with a small smile my life was hell in that camp but that day was one of the best in that place.
“I heard you stopped a bullet aimed at you that day.” A man with medium length dark hair and bright blue eyes asks. I glance at him nodding once.
“I sent it into a tree near Logan and Bucky that day.” I say.
The man smiles ,there's a slight bit of mischief in his eye as he crosses his arms over his chest. “Really? Did it scare either of them?”
I let out a more genuine laugh at the question. The man smirks. “If I did they never told me. But if I remember correctly after Logan met me he looked a little rattled.”
A few people in the group chuckle including the man with green eyes. He's pretty. That thought stops me dead in my tracks. You're not allowed to fall in love with people that fast Erik. I tell myself quickly.
I glance down at my watch. “Well I think that's all the story I can tell today you have a few hours before we close for the day feel free to look around I'll be around if you need me.” I say with a smile. I watch a few people start to filter away before I turn my back to them looking at Steve's uniform. It's a recreation of course, his real one is with him somewhere in the Arctic buried under years of ice.
Someone clears their throat next to me. I jump slightly, turning to them. Seeing the man from earlier. He's more beautiful up close.“Oh hi, sorry, I didn't see you there where you needing something sir?”
He lets out a slight chuckle shaking his head. “You're good, I just wanted to say hello. My name is Charles Xavier” he sticks out his hand. I reach out shaking his hand quickly.
“Nice to meet you.” I say with a smile.
He nods, moving his hand away to rub a hand along the back of his neck. “So do you have a partner?”
I blush coughing slightly. “No, I'm single”
He looks at me, his eyes full of warmth. “Could I take you on a date sometime?”
I nod. “That would be nice.”
He smiles again, handing me a piece of paper with his number. I take it gently, he flips my hand over, kissing it gently before standing once more. He smiles at my deepening blush. “Text me when you get off work.” He turns on his heel. “See you then.” He says over his shoulder as he walks away.
I can practically hear the laughter from all my brothers. Logan is going to kill him if we start dating or at least he will threaten Charles.
Worth it, I just hope he can handle Logan and all that entails. I sigh softly, turning to Steve's uniform once more. “Miss you Bärchen.” I say as a tear falls down my face. I wipe my eyes, smiling slightly. He may be still MIA but I'm still positive we will find him. We just have to wait. I look down at the number in my hand. Maybe ,if this date goes well I'll introduce him to my partner. I chuckle slightly at the irony it seems like love and grief come hand in hand in my life.
I just hope Charles understands and loves me no matter what.
