    Summary

It was odd because for the first time Ilya felt like he was truly moving forward toward something, and not just going through the motions or running away. And yet, it was like the finishing line kept changing, kept growing further apart. He felt selfish asking for more when he wasn't even sure he deserved what he already had.
    And yet.
When the game ended, he wanted to go down to the ice with the families and kiss Shane Hollander on the mouth. He wanted so many things he knew were out of his reach, and that made him hurt in a way he didn't know how to shake. All he could do was tear his skin open and hide the pain with a beautiful drawing of a loon.

Or: Ilya gets a loon tattoo.

Why can't you come stitch me up? by blood_and_butter
    Part 6 of Cottage honesty?

    Series Information:

    ID: 5977651
    Words: 80,822 | Works: 7 | Complete: Yes | Bookmarks: 262
    Description:

A series on (mis)communication, starring Shane and Ilya as they navigate their relationship (plus Rose and Svetlana, eventually). Kind of a mosaic of missing moments, Hollanov revisiting early relationship lore and sometimes just having some (horny) fun.

Fics are meant to be read as standalone stories, but contain references to one another. They span from pre-cottage to married life. I tried to arrange them chronologically, but the 5+1s are all over the place time-wise.

beautiful two-scene work diving into Ilya's mental space (blooming love and depression) while depicting how he got the loon tattoo and Shane's 2020 cup win.
As always, language, characterisation and balancing of details are superb
