Work Text:
She was the sun…
Dawning in glory, soft and radiant.
He could bask in her smiles, and nothing that bothered him before would matter for a while. Their moments together sparked joy in his chest. It made him believe that life could be more than the silence of night or violence without reason.
“Can I talk to you?”
Ah…but, reality had a way of reorganizing his moments of happiness into something else.
It all went wrong.
“I won’t keep you long.”
He set it as right as he could. Before he knew he had to go.
“I have to go somewhere.”
And the long and unforgiving night stole the warmth of the sun from his soul. Chilled his heart and cooled his skin.
“And I don’t think I can come back.”
Creatures like him weren’t allowed to bask in the sun’s light. Not for long, anyway. The sun sets on his last day, the blood on his clothes starts too cool.
“But I just wanted you to know.”
Not even sure if what he feels is feeling at all. The hole in his chest hurts more than the wound in his stomach, and the lines on the road blur.
“Getting to be around you and Benicio…”
Is it tears, or has the night come into the car with him? Neither matter anymore, he won’t see the sun again. Not his sun; her light won’t warm his heart, nor her touch spark joy on his skin.
He can remember the touch of her lips. It was brief, yet lasted an eternity. Singing in his blood a sweetness he would not taste again.
“…was the best thing to ever happen to me.”
The night is cold. He can’t feel the wheel in his hands anymore.
Wasn’t death supposed to be frightening?
This wasn’t so bad…
It was so calm. And quiet.
Like his heart.
Her sunlight was better, but this… this was fine, too.
