Chapter Text
Junior refused to believe he had feelings for that nerd, but he couldn’t help but feel.. well obviously disgusted when he caught him making out, swapping spit with the neighbours son.. but he also felt a weird sort of resentment towards the ‘perfect’ boy afterwards, he hated how overly sensitive and good he was in the first place but the way he stared into Cody’s eyes as if he knew them as well as he did made him want to punch the lights out of him-
What the hell was he even contemplating about, he should be happy for that loser he finally found the ‘butt buddy’ he wanted yet could never see in him, maybe he was just jealous that nerdy ugly Cody was happier than him after what happened between him and Penelope
he finally shifted away from his thoughts noticing Timmy from the window walking away from their house and Cody knocking on his door, the longest minute of his life
Junior got up from the couch, he had to act like he wasn’t expecting Cody otherwise maybe he’d read his face to understand what he’d just saw.. the envy he felt despite it just being Timmy
He opened the door to see Cody’s blue eyes and his soft gentle smile looking back at him, he couldn’t stay mad at Cody “Hey Junior I just thought I might come over to hangout, is Joseph here”
Junior had to act normal, why wasn’t he thinking normal? “No but I’ll call him over so we can all hangout” Cody agreed as the two walked into the usual red couch room, the outside daylight lit up the whole room, but their encounter seemed a little off than usual.. it’s been almost a week since Cody came by Juniors house, which would feel normal to anyone else but these three always had something special about their friendship, Joseph and Cody would almost come by every day.. but recently Cody’s absence has lead Junior to overthink the situation more than it is, he couldn’t even handle asking Cody about him and Timmy if he tried
The awkward tension filled the room after Junior hung up the call with Joseph, he didn’t even feel like making eye contact until Cody caught his attention
“sorry if I’ve been around less lately”
it’s almost as if he was able to read his mind
”yeah- no it’s fine” what was he saying.., that sounded as if he didn't care or miss him at all “I mean.. I guess I did miss you- a little, Joseph can get a little boring sometimes”
Cody’s face almost immediately lit up as he looked at Junior, he came closer maybe a bit more for Juniors comfort, guess he probably didn’t expect those words “really?.. I mean you guys do make fun of me all the time.. I thought me being gone you wouldn’t care”
he really thought that?.. were they that mean?
Junior almost felt sympathetic and melted at the thought of Cody being upset because of them.. his emotions were putting him through hell.
He finally looked at Cody “we don’t really hate you.. we just do it for fun you know, we’re guys”
“yeah I guess you’re right, but.. sometimes I feel as though Joseph hates me” Junior noticed Cody’s face wavering, his eyes glancing at the floor
he wasn’t wrong though.. Junior knew he never hated Cody, he just made fun of him because well.. Joseph did too, and he always saw Joseph as cool and.. Cody was a nerd, that’s how he always saw it since they were kids, but now they’ve grown together, why did Joseph still hate Cody?
Junior wanted to say something so Cody could know that he was sorry, for letting Joseph getting to his head all the time and him being an asshole himself but speak of the devil, the doorbell rang and they both knew who it was
”-that’s probably Joseph” Junior got up slightly frustrated from their other friend distributing his conversation with Cody, he’d probably say something awful about the nerd and he’d feel pressured to laugh along, resetting what they’ve just almost resolved
,
Cody heard from upstairs the door opening and Joseph saying “Hey dude!,” he shuffled slightly on the couch to make room so Joseph could be at Juniors right
the two walked side by side into the red couch room, Cody could tell by Joseph’s demeanour he wasn’t expecting him there, let alone not asking Junior about him when he first arrived “oh hey dude” Cody softened his expression to glance back at the boy infront “hi Joseph”
“Cody actually came by today, cause the rest of the week he decided to be gay with Timmy” Juniors tone changed almost dramatically, Cody didn’t understand why he had to add in that last bit
“oh dude why are you ditching us for that sissy loser!” Joseph said harshly,
Cody really liked Timmy, he was nicer than both of them combined but sometimes he wished he was them.. he felt a bit ashamed to admit it but he’s liked Junior since forever and his relationship and how he sees Joseoh is confusing, but he did used to admire him growing up seeing him as ‘cool’ the same way Junior did, who was he kidding both of them were straight and they hated him, deep down he felt that way
he couldn’t get his words out and just crossed his arms “well that’s because I like him, and he certainly doesn’t treat me like shit whenever I’m around”
,
Junior couldn’t understand, but he felt somewhat betrayed when Cody said that he liked Timmy.. why was he taking this the wrong way.. that’s his boyfriend, he’s gotten so used to the idea of Cody liking him this felt like cheating
”we don’t treat you like shit when you’re around! Well- Atleast I don’t” he could see the disproval and distance in Cody’s face
He felt like Cody was going to lecture him but he felt a wave of relief wash over him when Joseph groaned “guys can we do something?? I don’t feel like hearing y’all argue today” Junior nodded “yeah let’s go play basketball” he looked beside him to Cody in reassurance as the two other boys got up “ok fine.. but you guys know I’m not good”
2 hours later that day
It was late in the afternoon when Cody and Joseph would leave Juniors house, the evening sky deepened as Cody watched his own shadow and slowly Josephs creeping in as the wind lingered between the two, but Cody didn’t really feel like catching up on anything with Joseph after what he’d insinuated that morning, he didn’t even suspect Joseph would wanna speak to him he just felt it was normal and casually glanced back at Joseph not expecting anything until he felt him reach out to his shoulder
