Late-Night Drives (Rewrite)

Summary:

A late-night staff meeting and a storm that won’t let up. Severus Snape doesn't do favours, but he isn't about to let a colleague freeze on the walk back to the castle.

What starts as a tense, silent drive becomes a nightly habit. In the cramped, leather-scented space of his car, the professional distance they’ve kept for years starts to fail. It’s a back-and-forth of sharp words and shared whisky, with Y/N pushing to see just how much it takes to make the Professor's mask slip.

But when the tension finally snaps, they’re forced to find out if this is just a lapse in judgment or something they can’t walk away from.

Notes:

A Note on the Rewrite:
I wrote the original version of this fic years ago and looking back, I realized how much my writing has evolved since then. I wanted to take that old concept and give it the depth and tension it actually deserves. This version is more grounded, the dialogue is sharper, and the atmosphere is a lot heavier!! (plus a longer, more detailed smut scene) the story is over doubled in lenght now.

You can find the original version on my page.

Work Text:

The staff meeting had been an exercise in slow-motion torture. By the time the final candle was extinguished in the Great Hall, Severus felt the familiar, sharp thrum of a tension headache blooming behind his eyes. He moved through the corridors like a shadow, his boots striking the stone in a rhythmic, unforgiving cadence. He wanted nothing more than the cold quiet of the dungeons and a glass of Firewhisky.

He saw her from the end of the hall. Professor Y/N was leaned against the heavy oak doors, her head tilted back against the masonry. She looked frayed. The usual sharpness of her posture had collapsed into something heavy and defeated.

Severus slowed his pace, his robes settling around his ankles as he stopped a few feet away. He didn't speak immediately. He just watched her, his dark eyes tracing the way her breath hitched slightly in the chill of the entrance hall.

"The meeting ended twenty minutes ago," he said, his voice cutting through the silence, low and gravelly. "Are you planning on taking up permanent residence in the doorway?"

Y/N didn't jump. She just slowly opened her eyes, squinting against the flicker of a nearby torch. "I was considering it. The stone is surprisingly supportive compared to Dumbledore’s chairs."

She let out a long, shaky exhale and looked at him. There was no mischievous spark in her expression tonight. Just a flat, bone-deep weariness that made her look older than her years.

"Severus," she started, then hesitated. She rubbed a hand over her face, her fingers lingering against her temple. "Tell me you’re heading toward the staff quarters. And tell me you’re feeling uncharacteristically merciful."

He arched a pale eyebrow, his expression remains unreadable. "Mercy is a luxury I rarely afford myself, let alone others. What do you want?"

"A ride. A lift. A miracle," she muttered, pushing off the wall. She swayed slightly before finding her footing. "I’m drained. My legs feel like they’re made of lead and the thought of navigating the moving staircases right now makes me want to weep. Please. Just tonight."

Severus looked at her for a long moment. He should say no. He should walk past her and leave her to her exhaustion. But he recognized that look. He’d worn it himself more times than he cared to admit.

"I am heading that way," he said, his tone clipped. "But I have no intention of providing a shoulder for you to cry on or a captive audience for your complaints."

A ghost of a smile touched her lips, tired but genuine. "I wouldn't dream of it. I’ll be a silent, grateful shadow. I promise."
"Unlikely," he muttered, though he stepped forward to open the heavy door. He didn't offer his arm, but he lingered just long enough to ensure she was steady on her feet as she stepped out into the night air. "You are many things, but silent is rarely one of them."

She fell into step beside him, the silence between them less about peace and more about the shared weight of the day. Y/N felt the sudden drop in temperature acutely, the cold air stinging her cheeks, but she was more focused on the rhythmic brush of his heavy robes against her arm as they walked.

"Careful," she teased softly, her voice catching on the breeze. "If you keep being this helpful, people might actually start to like you."

Severus stared straight ahead, his jaw set. "A terrifying prospect. Let's move before I decide that the walk back is a journey you should experience alone."

The air outside was sharp, carrying the damp, earthen scent of the Forbidden Forest and the coming frost. Severus led the way to where his car sat, a heavy, black vintage beast that looked like it belonged to a different century. He unlocked the passenger side with a sharp flick of his wrist, waiting just long enough to ensure she was inside before rounding the hood.

The interior smelled of old leather, cedarwood, and the faint, underlying scent of rain. As Severus climbed in, the engine roared to life with a low, aggressive rumble that vibrated through the floorboards and up into Y/N’s seat. She felt the hum in her very bones, a low-frequency thrum that seemed to settle right in her chest.

He didn't pull away immediately. He sat with his hands gripped at ten and two, staring through the windshield at the dark expanse of the grounds.

"If you're going to fidget, do it quietly," he said, his voice flat and devoid of warmth.

Y/N leaned her head back against the leather, watching the way the green glow of the dashboard caught the sharp, severe angles of his profile. The dim light made him look even more like a shadow. "I didn't think you’d actually do it. I had a backup plan involving a very pathetic crawl up the stairs."

"A spectacle I’m sure the moving portraits would have enjoyed," Severus remarked dryly. He shifted into gear, the car gliding forward with a deceptive smoothness. "Don't mistake this for a sudden lapse into chivalry. I simply find the sound of your whining more grating than the effort of driving you."

Y/N let out a small, tired huff of a laugh, settling deeper into the seat. Despite his harsh words, the warmth of the car and the steady rhythm of his driving were already starting to loosen the knots of tension in her shoulders. She watched his hands on the wheel, long, pale fingers that moved with a quiet, lethal precision, and felt a strange, quiet thrill at being entirely at his mercy.

"Liars go to hell, Severus," she murmured, a tired but sharp edge to her voice. "You’re just enjoying the fact that I’m at your mercy for once."

He didn't look at her, his eyes fixed on the winding, shadow-drenched road. "You are never at my mercy. You are merely an inconvenience I’ve chosen to manage."

"A managed inconvenience," she repeated, tasting the words. "Is that what I am now? It’s a step up from 'insufferable presence,' I suppose."

Severus let out a low, breathy sound, not quite a laugh, but the ghost of one. "Barely. You’d do well to keep your curiosity to yourself. It’s a dangerous trait in this castle."

"Curiosity is what makes us good at our jobs," she countered, leaning a little closer toward the center console. The hum of the engine filled the space between them. "I’ve spent three years trying to figure out what it takes to make you crack a genuine smile. I’m not giving up because of a grumpy car ride."

"Then you are a glutton for punishment," he said. His grip on the wheel shifted, his knuckles pale in the dim light. "My 'different side' is remarkably similar to the one you see every day. Dark, damp, and generally unpleasant."

"I don't know," Y/N said, her voice dropping an octave as she watched the trees blur past. "I think you just like the armor. It's easier than letting someone see you're actually human."

The silence that followed was heavy, broken only by the rush of wind against the glass. Severus didn't snap back this time. He just took a corner a little faster than necessary, his jaw tight.

"You think you're very clever," he finally muttered, though the bite was gone.

"I know I am," she replied, closing her eyes as the warmth of the heater finally started to kick in. "And I know you’re not as annoyed as you’re pretending to be."

He didn't answer, but as they drove deeper into the night, he found his gaze drifting toward her in the rearview mirror, watching the way the shadows played across her face while she drifted on the edge of sleep.

Y/N shifted in the seat, her eyes catching the way the green light of the dash illuminated the sharp line of his jaw. She waited for a moment, letting the hum of the tires on the pavement fill the silence before she spoke.

"If you weren't stuck in this castle," she began, her voice low and curious. "If you could just keep driving and not stop until you reached somewhere you actually wanted to be... where would it be?"

Severus didn't reply at first. He navigated a sharp bend in the road, his movements precise and practiced. She thought he might ignore the question entirely, but then he spoke.

"The Highlands," he said. The word was short and clipped, but it lacked his usual venom.

Y/N raised an eyebrow. "The Highlands? I would have pegged you for a gray, rain-slicked city in Europe."

"The city is just more noise," he replied. He slowed the car as they approached the outskirts of the staff housing. "The Highlands are empty. There is a certain lack of expectation in a landscape that doesn't care if you exist or not. No students. No paperwork. Just the moors."

She watched him, noticing the way his grip on the wheel loosened just a fraction. "Solitude," she murmured. "I suppose that makes sense for you."

"It is not about loneliness," he corrected her quickly, his voice regaining its edge. "It is about the absence of unnecessary chatter."

"Like mine?" she teased softly.

Severus stopped the car in front of the stone quarters. He cut the engine, and the sudden silence felt heavy and intimate in the cabin's small space. He didn't look at her, but he didn't immediately reach for the door handle either.

"Precisely like yours," he said.

Y/N reached for her bag, her fingers brushing against the leather of the seat. She turned toward him, her expression softening in the dim light. "Thank you for the ride, Severus. Truly. I think I would have collapsed halfway up the seventh flight of stairs."

He finally turned his head to look at her. The shadows made it difficult to read his expression, but the usual wall of cold indifference seemed a little thinner than usual.

"It was tolerable," he admitted. The word was a massive concession coming from him. "Try not to make a habit of being so pathetic that I feel the need to intervene."

Y/N let out a quiet laugh and opened the car door. The cold night air rushed in, a sharp contrast to the warmth of the heater. She stepped out and lingered by the open window for a second.

"Goodnight, Severus," she said.

He stared at her for a beat too long before he gave a single, stiff nod. "Goodnight, Y/N."

He waited until she reached the door of the building before he shifted back into gear. The engine roared back to life, and she watched the tail lights disappear into the darkness of the grounds, leaving a strange, lingering warmth in the chill of the night.

The door clicked shut, finally cutting off the cold. Y/N dropped her bag on the table and stood in the dark for a moment, letting the silence of the room settle. The adrenaline of the long day finally dissipating, leaving her with a strange, restless energy.

She kept thinking about the look on his face when he mentioned the Highlands. It was the first time she’d seen him drop the defensive posturing, even if it was only for a second.

She walked over to her music collection and picked something at random, needing the background noise to drown out the repetitive loop of the staff meeting in her head. The music was low and steady, filling the corners of the small living room.

She sat on the edge of the sofa, staring at the far wall. Severus would likely be back to his usual, sharp-tongued self by breakfast. He wasn't the type to let a moment of forced proximity change how he operated in the light of day.

But the drive had happened. He’d let her stay when he could've kicked her out, he’d spoken when he could have remained silent, he’d said ‘yes’ instead of ‘no’.

Y/N leaned her head back against the cushions. But for now, the room was quiet. She kicked her shoes off, listening to the music, waiting for her head to stop spinning.

The staff meeting ended with the sound of sleet hitting the high windows of the Great Hall. The temperature had plummeted, and the damp chill of the castle felt like it was seeping into everyone's bones. Y/N pulled her cloak tight around her shoulders, watching the long line of professors gather by the hearth.

The Floo Network's green flames flared repeatedly. The sight of the spinning, soot-streaked travel made her stomach turn. She had tried it exactly twice, and both times had ended with her losing her lunch and her dignity in a heap on the floor. She had vowed never to touch the powder again, regardless of how much easier it made the commute.

Severus was already halfway to the doors, his pace purposeful. He didn't look back, but he didn't exactly sprint away either.
Y/N caught up to him near the entrance, her boots clicking loudly on the stone. "It’s miserable out there," she said, her voice slightly breathless.

He didn't stop, but he tilted his head enough to acknowledge her. "An astute observation. I trust you have a point, or are you simply narrating the weather?"

"My point is that the walk back is going to be a swamp," she said, falling into step beside him. "And I would rather trek through a hurricane than use the Floo with everyone else. I’m not in the mood to be sick tonight."

Severus stopped then, turning to look at her under the flicker of a wall torch. He looked tired, his dark eyes hooded. "I believe I was quite clear about not becoming your personal driver."

"I know," she said, meeting his gaze steadily. "But it's freezing, and your car is right there. Just to the quarters, Severus. I’ll keep the conversation to a minimum."

He stared at her for a long beat. The silence between them wasn't cold; it was heavy with the memory of the last drive. He let out a sharp, resigned breath and adjusted the collar of his coat.

"Fine," he snapped, though the bite was forced. "But if you breathe a word about this to Minerva, I will leave you on the side of the road."

Y/N nodded, the relief hitting her more than the victory. She followed him out into the biting wind.

Severus got in and slammed his door, bringing the scent of wet wool and the bitter night air with him. He didn't turn the key immediately. He sat there for a second, his hair dampened by the sleet and a few stray droplets clinging to the bridge of his nose. In the dim light, he looked less like a looming professor and more like a man who was simply exhausted by the world. Y/N watched a single drop of water trail down his temple, feeling a strange, tight pull in her chest at the sight of him so uncomposed.

He reached for the ignition. The engine revved with a deep, guttural growl that shook the frame of the car, the vibration traveling through the seat and settling in her stomach. He adjusted the heater vents, directing the first blast of lukewarm air toward her side before his own.

"You're shivering," he noted. He didn't look at her, his eyes focused on the blurred, gray world beyond the windshield, but his voice had lost its earlier snap.

"It'll stop," she said, her teeth still chattering slightly. She tried to steady herself, but the cold had settled into her bones. "Just give the heater a minute."

Severus turned his head then, his gaze lingering on the thin, wet fabric of her sleeves. "A fascinating choice of attire. I wasn't aware that optimism could keep a person dry in a North Sea gale."

"I thought the meeting would be shorter," she muttered, her fingers fumbling as she tried to peel the wet wool away from her skin.

He reached into the back seat, pulling a heavy, spare traveling cloak from the floor and tossing it onto her lap. It was thick, black, and carried the overwhelming scent of him, cedarwood and the faint, bitter tang of herbs.

"Wrap yourself in that. I have no desire to listen to you catch pneumonia while I am trying to drive."

"Thank you, Severus," she murmured, pulling the heavy fabric around her shoulders. The weight of it was an immediate comfort, but as the warmth of his cloak began to seep into her skin, she felt a different kind of heat rising.

He didn't respond, but he adjusted the dials again, pushing the fan to its limit. As they pulled away, the headlights cut through the gloom, illuminating the swirling sleet. The castle began to fade into the gray behind them, leaving only the amber glow of the dashboard and the growing heat of the cabin.

The interior was small, and with their heavy cloaks, the space felt even more confined. Every time he shifted gears, his elbow brushed against her sleeve, a brief, friction-filled contact that felt louder than the engine.

The storm was only getting worse, the snow and rain turning the world into a featureless void beyond the glass. The car crawled along the winding road, the tires occasionally losing their grip on the slush.

Y/N shifted under the heavy weight of his spare cloak, the warmth of the cabin finally starting to make her feel human again. The only sound was the rhythmic, mechanical scrape of the wipers.

"The silence is starting to feel a bit like an interrogation, Severus," she said, her voice quiet. She reached toward the dashboard, her fingers hovering near the radio. "Do you mind? Or do you prefer the sound of the wind trying to rip the doors off?"

Severus didn't look at her, his eyes fixed on the blurring road. "I find that most of what is broadcast is a sensory assault I would rather avoid. I have no desire to spend the rest of the drive being bombarded by noise."

"I wasn't going to subject you to the top 40, if that’s what you’re worried about," she countered, a ghost of a smile touching her lips. "I have a little more taste than that. What do you actually listen to when you’re alone?"

He hesitated, his hands tightening on the steering wheel. "Classical," he muttered, the word sounding like a reluctant confession. "Mozart, Beethoven. Anything that follows a logical progression rather than the chaotic, shrill demands of modern music."

"Complexity and control," Y/N murmured. "I should have known."

She reached for the tuning dial again, and this time, he didn't pull back. As she leaned in, her shoulder brushed against his, the thick wool of their cloaks creating a friction that felt much too loud in the small space. Her hand landed on the dial just as he reached to adjust it himself.

Their fingers met on the cold plastic. Neither of them moved. The contact was brief, but in the heat of the car, it felt like a static shock. Severus didn't pull away immediately; his hand remained steady under hers for a beat too long before he finished the turn.

The low, intricate notes of a cello concerto filled the car. The deep strings seemed to vibrate through the very frame of the vehicle, matching the low thrum of the engine.

Y/N listened for a moment, her head tilted toward the speakers as she tried to place the heavy, somber melody. "Bach?" she guessed, her voice cautious. "The… Cello Suites?"

Severus let out a short, soft sound that was almost a huff of amusement. It was the most relaxed she had seen him all week. "Not quite. It is Dvořák. Bach is far too precise for a night like this. This has a bit more... unrest to it."

"Unrest," she repeated, leaning back into the seat. "I didn't think you liked unrest. I thought you liked everything in its proper drawer, labeled and corked."

"In my lab, perhaps," he said. He slowed the car as they hit a particularly thick patch of slush, his movements fluid and calm. "But even I can appreciate a melody that acknowledges the world is rarely as orderly as we would like it to be."

He didn't snap his usual sharp retort. Instead, he started talking about the composition, explaining the way the cello was meant to fight against the orchestra rather than blend into it. As he spoke, the tension in his shoulders seemed to bleed away. He wasn't lecturing her; he was sharing something, his voice dropping into a low, melodic cadence that hummed in the small space.

Y/N watched him, fascinated by the way his features softened when he wasn't looking for a reason to be angry. The amber glow of the dashboard caught the edge of his dark eyes, and for a few minutes, the storm outside didn't matter.
"You're doing it again," she said softly, interrupting his thought on the second movement.

Severus glanced at her, his expression guarded but not cold. "Doing what?"

"Being human," she teased, though the word was more of a whisper. "It’s a good look on you, Severus."

He didn't pull away or tell her to be silent. He just turned his gaze back to the windshield, a small, nearly imperceptible ghost of a smile touching the corner of his mouth. "Do not get used to it."

By the time the car finally drifted to a stop in the courtyard of the staff quarters, the heater was clicking as it cooled, and the music was winding down to a low, mournful finish. Neither of them moved toward the door handles.

Outside, the world was a jagged mess of white and black, the sleet now freezing into a solid, glass-like sheet over the stone path. Y/N stayed still, her fingers tracing the heavy seam of his spare cloak. The idea of him driving back up the winding, unlit road to the castle felt genuinely dangerous now.

"The visibility is practically zero," she said, her voice quiet. She finally looked over at him. "And the road back to the dungeons is going to be a death trap by now. It’s well into nightfall, Severus. You shouldn't be out on the road like this."
Severus didn't argue. He looked out the side window at the darkness, his expression grim. "The conditions are... less than ideal," he admitted, his voice a low rumble.

Y/N took a breath, her heart hitting a quick, uneven rhythm against her ribs. "Stay. Just for a while. At least until the wind dies down." She paused, her grip tightening on the cloak. "I have a bottle of Ogden’s Old Gold in my cabinet. The charred oak finish. I’ve been saving it for a night that actually deserved it."

Severus turned his head, his dark eyes locking onto hers. The usual wall of professional indifference was still there, but it was cracked. "Old Gold? Not the standard reserve?"

"No," she said, her voice dropping as the tension in the car reached a breaking point. "The good stuff. I was waiting for someone who would actually know the difference."

A ghost of a smile, sharp and fleeting, touched his mouth. "Hiding top-tier spirits while the rest of us choke on the school's table wine is a serious offense, Y/N."

"Then come inside and let me make amends," she replied.

Severus stayed silent for a heartbeat, his gaze lingering on her with an intensity that made the air in the car feel thick and difficult to breathe. For a split second, she could have sworn his eyes dropped to her mouth, a flicker of something raw and unsaid passing over his features, but it happened so fast she couldn't be entirely sure she hadn't imagined it.

"Very well," he said, his voice dropping into a low, gravelly register that sent a shiver down her spine. "It would be a tragedy to let it sit unpoured. And as you said, the drive back would be... ill-advised."

He reached for the door handle, his movements slow and deliberate as he prepared to face the wind again. "Let's get out of the cold."

The transition from the car to the quarters was a blur of biting wind and a frantic scramble up the icy steps. Inside, the air was still and smelled faintly of the dried sage that Y/N kept on her mantle. She didn't turn on the main lights. Instead, a flick of her wand sent a warm, low glow through the lamps and sparked a modest fire in the grate.

Severus stood by the door for a moment, shedding his heavy outer cloak. He looked out of place in the softer environment of her living room, a tall, dark pillar against the cream colored walls. His eyes immediately began to drift, taking in the rows of books and the stacks of records by the window.

"Sit anywhere, Severus," she said, her voice sounding a bit too loud in the quiet. "I just need to find the glasses."

She retreated to the small kitchen nook, her hands trembling slightly as she reached into the cabinet. From the other room, she could hear the faint, dry sound of him dragging a finger over the spines of her books.

When she returned with the bottle of Old Gold and two heavy crystal glasses, she found him standing by the main bookshelf. He was looking at the varied collection, his expression unreadable in the firelight.

"You have an eclectic library," he noted. He didn't turn around, but his voice had lost its defensive edge. "Ancient wizarding tomes on resonance theory shelved right next to Muggle fiction. A rather jarring juxtaposition, wouldn't you say?"
Y/N set the bottle down on the low table, moving closer until she was standing just a few feet behind him. "I don't find them that different. They’re both trying to explain the world. One just uses a wand and the other uses a pen."

Severus finally turned, his gaze fixed on a weathered, dark blue volume with gold lettering on the spine. He reached out, his long fingers pulling it from the shelf with a strange, focused quiet. He held it as if weighing the object itself, his eyes scanning the unfamiliar title.

"The Great Gatsby," he read, his voice dropping into a low, gravelly register. He turned the book over, inspecting the plain back cover before looking at her with a hum of genuine curiosity.

"It’s one of the few things I brought with me when I started at the school," she said, her voice dropping. "It’s a story about a man who spends his entire life trying to reclaim a past that’s already gone. He spends every night staring at a green light across the water, wanting something he knows he can't have."

Severus looked at the book for a long beat, his thumb tracing the worn edge of the spine. He didn't mock the sentiment. If anything, he looked at the dark blue cover with a sudden, heavy understanding that made the air in the room feel still.
"Obsession and the passage of time," he murmured, more to himself than to her.

"You should take it. If you want to read it. I’d trust you with it." she said, her pulse thrumming in her throat.
Severus didn't immediately move to set the book down. He stood there, the firelight catching the sharp angles of his face, his thumb still resting on the cover. The storm rattled the window frames, but the sound felt miles away.

Y/N reached for the bottle of Old Gold, pouring two healthy measures into the crystal glasses. The liquid was thick and dark, the scent of charred oak and peat filling the small gap between them. She handed him his glass, and this time, the brush of their fingers was sustained. Severus didn't pull away. He took the glass, his eyes locking onto hers with a sudden, magnetic intensity.

"To the good stuff," he murmured, his voice like velvet.

He took a slow, appreciative sip, the heat of the whiskey evidently hitting him as he let out a low, controlled exhale. He didn't look back toward the door or mention the time. Instead, he moved toward the armchair nearest the fire, his movements slow and deliberate.

Y/N sat on the edge of the sofa, the heat from the hearth finally soaking into her skin. She looked at the amber liquid in her glass, then back at Severus. "Are you someone who appreciates the burn, or do you prefer to get straight to the point?"
Severus didn't smile, but there was a slight softening in the line of his jaw. "I have never seen the appeal in hesitating. The effect is the same regardless of the pace."

He raised his glass in a silent, sharp movement. Y/N mirrored him, and they both downed the measure in one go.
The Old Gold hit like a physical weight. It was smooth at first, tasting of peat and smoke, before the fire bloomed in the back of her throat and spread a slow, heavy heat through her chest. It made her head swim for a second, a pleasant, fuzzy lightness settling behind her eyes.

She tried to keep her expression neutral, but she felt herself grimace, setting the glass down with a hand that felt just a bit too heavy.

Severus hadn't moved. He was watching her, his dark eyes tracking the way she reached up to brush a damp lock of hair from her face. "You don't drink this often," he noted. It wasn't a question; it was an observation, his voice low and devoid of its usual judgment.

"Not usually on a Tuesday night," she admitted, her voice a little breathier than she intended. She felt the heat rising in her cheeks, and she knew he could see it in the firelight.

Severus reached for the bottle, his movements steady as he refilled the glasses. He didn't immediately retreat into the shadows of his chair. He stayed there, hovering on the edge of her personal space, the heat from the hearth casting long, flickering shadows across the sharp angles of his face.

"It is a potent drink," he noted. His voice was low, barely carrying over the crackle of the fire. "It has a tendency to make the world feel smaller than it actually is."

Y/N looked up at him, her heart thudding against her ribs. The whiskey had softened the edges of her nerves, but his presence was still sharp and undeniable. "Maybe the world is actually this small, Severus. Just this room and the storm outside."

Severus didn't answer immediately. He watched her, his gaze intense but unreadable. For a moment, she thought she saw his eyes drift toward her mouth again, but he caught himself, his jaw tightening as he looked back at her eyes.
"A dangerous perspective," he whispered. He didn't move away, but he didn't lean in further either. He simply existed in her space, the tension between them thick enough to be a physical weight.

Y/N looked up at him, her heart thudding against her ribs. The whiskey had softened the edges of her nerves, but his presence was still sharp and undeniable. He just stood in that narrow space between them, his jaw set in a way that suggested he was having a very quiet, very internal argument with himself.

He set his glass on the table with a soft, deliberate click. He didn't look at the glass; his eyes remained fixed on hers.
"The storm will eventually break," he said. His voice had dropped into a rough, gravelly register, sounding more like a warning to himself than to her. "And the castle will still be there in the morning."

"I'm aware," she said. Her voice was barely a breath, her throat feeling suddenly tight. Under the weight of his unblinking stare, she felt a strange, electric heat rise from her chest to her cheeks, a visceral reaction to being so thoroughly seen by him.

He stayed there, caught in the quiet. He didn't offer a witty retort or a sharp exit. He simply waited, the distance between them feeling like a thread pulled so tight it was vibrating.

A particularly violent gust of wind rattled the windowpanes, the sound causing both of their heads to snap toward the onslaught outside. Y/N looked toward the dark glass, the reality of the weather providing a convenient excuse for the suggestion she was about to make.

"The wind is picking up," she said, her voice sounding meek even to her own ears. "It’s not just the ice anymore. You can’t see the path to the main gates."

Severus turned his head toward the window, his expression grim. He didn't argue. He knew as well as she did that the road was likely impassable by now.

"Stay," she whispered. The word slipped out before she could second guess it, and the moment it hit the air, her stomach dropped as if she had stepped off a ledge. "Don't try to go back out there. Just... stay here until it lets up."
The silence that followed was deafening. Severus didn't move. He didn't even blink. He just watched her, his dark eyes searching hers with an intensity that made her skin prickle. She felt exposed, her heartbeat thudding a frantic rhythm against her ribs that she was certain he could hear in the stillness.

The weight of the silence became too much. Panicked by her own boldness, Y/N reached for her refilled glass. Her hand trembled, the crystal clinking against the wood of the table before she snatched it up and downed the entire measure in one go. The Old Gold burned twice as hard this time, the liquid fire stinging her throat and forcing a sharp, watering sting into her eyes. She welcomed the burn; it was easier to focus on the pain in her throat than the heavy, dangerous expectation in his gaze.

Severus watched the display with a slow, rising arch of his eyebrow. He didn't laugh, but there was a dry, observational bite to his voice when he spoke.

"The bottle isn't going anywhere," he noted quietly. "There was no need to treat it like a race."

Y/N set the glass down with a clumsy thud, her face flushing a deep, hot crimson that had nothing to do with the hearth. "I’m not... I didn't mean to..." She trailed off, unable to find a way to explain the sudden spike of nerves. The room felt suddenly too small, the air thick with the scent of his wool coat and the sharp tang of the spirits.

Severus didn't mock her. He reached out, his long fingers closing around the neck of the bottle as he set it back on the table, away from her reaching hand. As he did, his knuckles brushed against her wrist. He didn't pull away.
The contact sent a jolt of pure adrenaline through her, making her breath hitch. She stared at his hand against hers, the contrast of his pale skin against her own making her pulse leap.

"You're shaking," he said. It wasn't a taunt. His voice had dropped into a low, gravelly register that felt like a physical touch against her skin.

"It's the whiskey," she lied. Her voice was barely a breath, and she hated how easily it wavered, confirming everything he was observing.

"Is it?"

He moved his hand, his thumb tracing the narrow, sensitive skin of her inner wrist for a heartbeat. The contact was brief but heavy with a sudden, sharp focus. Y/N felt a shiver ripple up her arm and settle in the pit of her stomach. He was checking her pulse, and there was no hiding the frantic, uneven rhythm of her heart from him.
He picked up the bottle again, pouring a third measure into her glass with a slow, steady hand. He did the same for his own, the liquid amber glowing like molten gold in the firelight. As he pushed the glass back toward her, his gaze locked onto hers, refusing to let her look away.

"If you intend to keep pace with me, you would do well to find your footing," he whispered. He didn't retreat. He sat forward, his presence crowding her space until the scent of cedarwood and the sharp heat of the spirits were all she could breathe.
He lifted his glass, his eyes locked on hers with an intensity that made the rest of the room fall away. "Slowly, this time," he commanded. It wasn't a request; it was a low, vibrating directive that made her pulse jump. Her body obeyed the steel in his voice before her mind could catch up.

She nodded, her fingers brushing his as she took the glass. The brief contact felt like a spark against her skin. They both took a slow, deliberate sip. The warmth of the third drink was different. It didn't burn; it hummed. It settled into her bones, blurring the edges of the room until there was nothing left but the crackle of the hearth and the man sitting inches away from her. The world felt muffled, as if they were trapped in a bubble of amber light where time had stopped.

The air in the room had become stagnant and thick. The storm continued to lash against the stone walls outside, but inside, the silence was no longer empty. It was expectant, vibrating with the weight of everything they weren't saying.

As Y/N took the final sip of her third measure, the room didn't just sway; it seemed to tilt on its axis. The heat from the firewhiskey was no longer a hum; it was a heavy, rhythmic pulse behind her eyes. She set her glass down, but her depth perception failed her, and the crystal clinked precariously against the edge of the wood. The sound seemed to echo, disproportionately loud in her ears.

Severus was on his feet before she could even realize she was slipping. He didn't move with amusement; he moved with a sudden, sharp efficiency.

"That is quite enough," he said. His voice was no longer velvet; it was the low, stern register he used when a student was about to blow up a cauldron. "You are barely upright."

"I'm fine," Y/N insisted, though the words felt heavy and tangled in her mouth, as if her tongue were twice its normal size. She tried to stand, her intention to see him to the door, but her knees turned to water the moment she found her feet. The floor felt like the deck of a ship in a gale, rising up to meet her.

She stumbled forward, her shoulder clipping the bookshelf. Severus was there instantly, his hands bolting around her upper arms. The contact was firm, his fingers digging slightly into the fabric of her sleeves. Even through her layers, the heat of his palms felt like it was branding her.

"I can... I can manage," she insisted. Her head was spinning, but as she looked up at him, the dizziness was less about the whiskey and more about the sudden, sharp proximity of his face.

"You can barely speak," he countered. He didn't let go. Instead, he tucked one of her arms over his shoulder, anchoring her against his side. The heat of him was staggering, a solid wall of wool and muscle that made her feel suddenly very small and very vulnerable. "I am not leaving you to crack your skull open on the hearth. Which way to the bedroom?"

She pointed toward the short hallway, her movements slightly uncoordinated but deliberate. The walk was a blur of mismatched steps and the steady, unyielding weight of him holding her upright. Every time she faltered, his grip tightened, his chest solid against her shoulder. Being tucked against him felt right in a way that terrified her.

"I never expected you to be such a lightweight," he muttered. There was no "twinkle" in his eyes, just a tense, focused frustration that seemed to be directed as much at himself as it was at her.

Y/N leaned into him, her senses clouded by the scent of his coat, cedar, rain, and something sharper, like old parchment. "It’s your fault," she whispered, a small, reckless laugh escaping her. The alcohol had stripped away her filter, leaving only a buzzing need to provoke him. "Expert pouring... Professor."

Severus stopped dead. They were halfway down the narrow hall, the shadows deep and the air cool against her flushed skin. He didn't move for a long beat. When he finally looked at her, his dark eyes were hooded, reflecting the dim light from the living room in a way that made them look like black glass.

"Don't call me that," he said. His voice had dropped an octave, becoming a rough, dangerous rasp that sent a literal shiver down her spine.

"But you are," she teased, her intoxication making her bold enough to play with fire. "Professor Snape. It’s a very... formal title for such an informal night."

Severus didn't smirk. He turned, his movement sudden and calculated, pinning her against the wall of the corridor. She felt the cool, rough stone through her clothes at the same moment he loomed over her. He didn't trap her with his body yet, but he leaned in until he was inches from her face, his hands resting on the stone on either side of her head.

"I am well aware of my title," he hissed, his voice vibrating with a restrained power that she felt in the center of her chest. "But the way you are using it right now has nothing to do with my position at this school."

Y/N’s heart hammered a frantic rhythm against her ribs, the sound loud in her own ears. The hazy fog of the whiskey was still there, but it was being cut through by a sharp, electric clarity. The challenge in his eyes was an invitation, and she found herself wanting to push him until he broke.

"Is that so, Professor?" she challenged, her voice dropping into a purr. She watched his gaze drop to her mouth for a fraction of a second, and she knew she had him. "Then what are you going to do about it?"

Severus didn't move. He stayed pinned over her, his hands flat against the stone, caging her in. The only sound in the narrow hallway was the distant, muffled roar of the wind and the uneven, jagged rhythm of their shared breathing.
He leaned in, his face inches from hers. The scent of cedarwood, cold rain, and the sharp bite of the whiskey was overwhelming, flooding her senses until it was the only thing she could perceive. His eyes were dark, tracking the way her chest rose and fell in shallow, jagged gasps that made her lace collar strain against her throat.

"You have no idea what you’re asking for," he whispered. His voice was a low, dangerous vibration that seemed to echo in her very bones. "You’re intoxicated, and you’re reckless, and you think this is a game."

"I'm not playing, Severus," she breathed. The use of his name felt like a match struck in a dark room.

He tilted his head, his gaze dropping to her mouth and staying there this time. He didn't rush. He let the silence stretch until it was agonizing, the heat radiating between them thick enough to feel. He moved closer, the heavy wool of his robes brushing against her arms, until he was close enough that she could feel the radiating heat of his skin. Every nerve ending she possessed was screaming for him to close the final inch.

He didn't kiss her immediately. He hovered there, his lips a fraction of an inch from hers, a silent, desperate test of her resolve. He waited until she let out a soft, broken sound of frustration, a tiny whimper she couldn't suppress, before he finally closed the gap.

The kiss wasn't "hungry" or "passionate" in the way a book would describe it. It was heavy and desperate, a sudden, violent release of all the tension that had been building since they left the Great Hall. It tasted of whiskey and years of unspoken friction. To Y/N, it felt like a collision, a physical force that knocked the remaining breath from her lungs.
Severus groaned into her mouth, a low, guttural sound that vibrated against her lips as his hands left the wall. One hand tangled into the hair at the nape of her neck, his fingers firm and possessive as he tilted her head back to deepen the contact. The other slid down to her waist, his palm broad and hot, pulling her flush against his body.
His eyes were open, searching hers with a raw, unshielded intensity that made her feel completely exposed, as if he were looking straight through the whiskey-haze and into the core of her.

"Tell me you aren't going to regret this when the sun comes up," he rasped, his voice sounding more like a plea than a question.

"I won't," she promised. Her fingers clutched at the heavy fabric of his robes, pulling him closer as if she could anchor herself to him. "I want this. I want you."

The shift in him was absolute. The internal battle he’d been fighting since they left the Great Hall finally collapsed under the weight of her admission. He didn't just kiss her this time; he claimed her, his mouth hard and demanding against hers as he crowded her back into the wall. Y/N felt the air leave her lungs, her back pressing into the unforgiving stone as he took up every inch of her personal space.

His hands moved with a sudden, sharp intent, sliding from her jaw down to the hem of her blouse. He paused there for a second, his knuckles grazing the sensitive skin of her stomach. The brief, cool touch made her stomach flip, her eyes locking onto his with a dark, questioning intensity.

"You're sure," he rasped, his voice barely a whisper against her lips. It wasn't a question of permission, but a final warning, a chance to step back before the threshold was crossed.

"Yes," she breathed. Her fingers tightened in the heavy wool of his robes, anchoring him to her.
He didn't wait for another word. His hands slid beneath the fabric, his palms hot and slightly calloused against her bare skin. The sensation made her breath hitch, the searing heat of his hands a sharp, jolting contrast to the cool stone at her back. He navigated the fastenings of her clothes with a clinical efficiency that shouldn't have been as attractive as it was, his movements sure and devoid of hesitation.

When his hand finally cupped the weight of her breast, his thumb dragging across the sensitive, peaked center, Y/N let out a soft, broken sound, her head falling back against the wall. The feeling was entirely different from her own touch. It was heavier, rougher, and layered with the crushing weight of his presence. A shiver that had nothing to do with the cold raced through her; he didn't just touch her, he possessed her, his fingers applying a firm, grounding pressure that sliced through the hazy fog of the whiskey.

Severus didn't waste time with flowery praise. He leaned into her, his thigh hooking high between hers to anchor her in place as he felt her knees weaken. The friction of his heavy trousers against her inner thigh was electric, a promise of the weight she was about to feel.

"Look at me," he commanded, his voice a low, vibrating growl.

She forced her eyes open, her vision slightly blurred but her focus entirely on him. She found him watching her with an expression that was almost pained in its intensity. He wasn't smirking or teasing; he looked like a man finally allowing himself to touch something he had spent months pretending he didn't want, and the raw honesty in his gaze made her heart hammer against her ribs.

Severus watched her, his breath hitting her face in sharp, ragged pulls. He didn't look like a man enjoying a conquest; he looked like a man being consumed by his own hunger.

"You have no idea," he rasped, the words sounding like they were being torn from his throat. "The months I have spent... watching you. Listening to you. Hating you for every distraction. Thinking of this."

His hands weren't gentle as they worked the fastening of her skirt. He was past the point of subtlety. The fabric fell, pooling around her ankles in a heap of dark wool, leaving her legs bare to the drafty air of the corridor. Y/N shivered, the goosebumps prickling her skin, but the cold was immediately chased away by the heat of his palms.
He didn't go for her panties yet. He was too disciplined for that, even now. He started at her knees, his hands sliding upward with a slow, agonizing pressure that made her muscles ache with anticipation. His fingers traced the delicate, pale skin of her outer thighs before his thumbs hooked into the waistband of her lace, pulling her flush against his hips.
"Severus, please," she whispered.

"Not yet," he muttered against her skin. He moved his mouth to the curve of her shoulder, biting down just hard enough to leave a mark before soothing it with his tongue. His hands moved again, palms flat as they swept over the curve of her backside, pulling her up and into him.

His fingertips trailed along the crease of her thigh, hovering over the sensitive skin but never quite crossing the line. Every time his hand moved away, Y/N let out a small, frustrated sound, her fingers digging into the heavy wool of his shoulders.
"Look at me," he commanded again, his voice dropping into that dark, low register.

She tried to obey, but the sheer, focused weight of his attention was overwhelming. Her lashes fluttered and her gaze darted to the side, unable to hold the raw, predatory honesty in his eyes. It felt like he was reading every secret she had ever kept.
"I said look at me," he repeated, his hand moving to her chin to tilt her face back up. "Do not look away now. Not after you've spent the evening baiting me."

She forced her eyes to lock onto his, her vision swimming from the whiskey and the sudden, terrifying thrill of being completely pinned by his will. He reached down, his fingers finally hooking into the edge of her panties. He didn't slide them down. He just held them there, his knuckles pressing against her heat, waiting for her to acknowledge the shift in power.
"Take them off," he whispered. It wasn't a suggestion. It was a low, vibrating order that left no room for the hesitation she usually carried.

Y/N’s hands were shaking as she reached down, her fingers fumbling with the silk, her skin burning under the weight of his unblinking stare. She managed to kick them away, the small piece of fabric landing softly atop the heap of her skirt. The hallway was silent except for the heavy, rhythmic sound of their breathing and the distant, muffled roar of the wind.
Severus didn't move immediately. He watched her face, his gaze tracing the flush on her cheeks and the blown pupils of her eyes before he looked down. When his hand finally returned to her, there was nothing left between his touch and her skin. His palm slid over her hip,

"Now," he rasped, his eyes locking back onto hers as he pressed her firmly into the wall. "There is nothing left to hide behind."

The professional distance they had maintained for years didn't just break; it vanished entirely. Severus reached down, his large hand cupping her with a firm, possessive weight that made her breath hitch. He didn't hesitate this time, his middle finger parting her and sliding through the wetness he had drawn out of her.

The sensation was sharp and visceral. The sudden intrusion sent a jolt of electricity straight to her core, making her vision swim for a heartbeat. Y/N arched her back, her spine pressing hard into the stone wall as she tilted her hips, wordlessly begging for more as she pushed her clit against the base of his finger. She felt heavy and desperate, her body responding to him with a frantic, pulsing rhythm she couldn't control.

He let out a low, rough growl, but before she could sink into the rhythm, he withdrew. The sudden absence of his touch made her let out a broken, high-pitched whimper, her eyes fluttering open in a daze of whiskey and want. She felt cold and abandoned the moment he pulled away.

"Taste it," he commanded, his voice a dark, velvet rasp. He didn't wait for her to agree. He pushed his wet fingers into her mouth, the metallic tang of the whiskey on his skin mingling with the salty, intimate taste of her own arousal.
Y/N moaned at the intrusion, her tongue instinctively swirling around his knuckles as she licked. She looked up at him through her lashes, seeing the way his pupils had swallowed the light, leaving his eyes.
"You listen so well," he whispered against the shell of her ear, his breath hot and uneven against her skin. "I wonder if you’ll be quite this compliant when I’m no longer using my hands."

He pulled his fingers from her mouth, glistening and slick, and reached down once more. This time, there was no pretense of gentleness. He cupped her with a bruising, heavy pressure, his thumb pinning her clit while his other fingers teased her entrance. He didn't sink inside her yet. He merely traced the stinging, sensitive circle of her opening, the tips of his fingers dipping just far enough to feel the rhythmic, desperate pulse of her muscles stretching for him. Y/N felt her knees buckle slightly, her body feeling like it was melting into the floor, anchored only by the rough grip he had on her hips.

"You're tight," he muttered, his voice dropping into a rough, gravelly register that made her knees nearly give way. "And so incredibly wet. Tell me, Y/N... is this what you were thinking about while I was driving you home in the dark?"
The question hit her like a physical blow, making her pulse throb between her legs. She wanted to deny it, to maintain some shred of dignity, but the way his hand was moving made lying impossible.

He pressed his palm flat against her, his fingers slowly exploring her cunt, making sure she felt every calloused ridge of his hand as he prepared her for more. He lingered at the threshold, his thumb maintaining a rhythmic, grounding pressure against her clit that had her head lolling back against the stone. Y/N let out a long, shaky breath, her eyes fluttering shut as she focused on the friction.

Then, his resolve finally snapped.

With a low, guttural sound, Severus sank a single finger deep inside her. The friction was immediate and intense; he felt her clench instinctively around him, tight and slick with a desperation that mirrored his own. He went still for a heartbeat, his eyes closing as he focused entirely on the sensation of being buried in her.

"Damn it," he cursed under his breath, the words a rough, jagged rasp.

He hadn't expected this, the sheer, overwhelming tightness of her. He let out a sharp, ragged exhale, his forehead dropping to rest against hers as he began to move his finger in a slow, punishingly deep stroke.

"You're far too wet for me to maintain any shred of my better judgment, Y/N," he growled against her lips.

Y/N let out a broken, high-pitched whimper at his words, the blunt honesty of his lust stripping away the last of her defenses. She felt her face go hot, her chest heaving as she struggled to find air in the narrow space between them. Every word he spoke felt like a touch, a dark validation of the craving she’d been harboring for months.

He added a second finger, stretching her open as he pushed deeper still, his knuckles rubbing against her sensitive opening. Every time he withdrew and plunged back in, the sound of his skin against her wetness filled the narrow hallway, a wet, rhythmic echo that made her toes curl against the floor. He was no longer a professor or a colleague; he was a man reaching his breaking point, his movements becoming more urgent and less calculated with every jagged breath she took.
His touch was skillful and deliberate, his fingers alternating between pumping in and out of her and curling upward, hooking deep inside to find the sensitive spot that made her vision blur. He was reducing her to a puddle of moans and desperate whispers.

"I have fantasized about this," she confessed, the whiskey finally stripping away the last of her pride. The admission felt like a surrender, a truth she could no longer hold back. She arched her back, her fingers digging into the heavy wool of his shoulders. "The way you look at me in the halls. The way you speak. I wanted to know how you'd touch me."
The sound of her own voice, so raw and needy, seemed to echo in the hallway. She didn't just want him; she wanted him to know exactly how much power he had over her at this moment.

Severus let out a low, ragged sound, his pace increasing until his fingers were a frantic, wet blur inside her. His voice shook with the effort of not simply taking her right there against the cold stone.

"Then surrender," he urged. He pinned her harder against the stone, his thumb grinding against her clit with a punishing precision that made her back arch. "Stop fighting it. Give it to me. Cum for me."

The command was the final thread to snap. As her climax approached, Y/N’s body tensed, her muscles coiling tight around his fingers as the sensations became an overwhelming roar in her ears. She cried out his name, the sound echoing off the narrow walls of the corridor as the first wave of pleasure crashed over her.

Her body convulsed in a violent, euphoric release, her cunt clenching desperately around his hand in rhythmic, pulsing waves. Severus didn't pull away. He held her up, his arm a solid, unyielding bar across her middle to keep her from sliding to the floor as she rode the tide of her orgasm. He watched her face, his own expression raw and stripped of its usual armor, witnessing the exact moment she came apart for him.

Y/N could only gasp, her vision flickering white as her strength vanished, leaving her entirely dependent on the strength of his arm to stay upright.

As the tremors slowly began to fade, he withdrew his hand, the wet sound of it sharp in the sudden quiet of the hall. He was breathing as hard as she was, his forehead resting against the stone beside her head. He stayed there for a long beat, his eyes closed, the only sound the distant, dying rattle of the storm and the thundering of her own heart in her ears.

"The bedroom," he rasped, his voice a gravelly ghost of its former self.

He kept one hand firmly on her waist, guiding her unsteady, whiskey-slowed steps back toward the door at the end of the hall. Y/N felt boneless, her skin humming with a lingering afterglow that made every brush of his robes against her bare legs feel like a spark. He moved behind her, his own balance slightly compromised; once, his shoulder brushed the doorframe with a heavy thud, a lapse that betrayed just how much the Old Gold had settled into his system.
When they reached the edge of the mattress, the backs of her knees hit the quilt, and she sank onto the bed. The softness of the mattress felt like a luxury after the cold stone of the hall. Severus stood between her parted legs, his shadow stretching long and jagged across the sheets, looming over her.

The room was dim, lit only by the faint orange spill from the hearth. Usually, he could have stripped those layers in seconds, but tonight, the coordination wasn't there. His fingers slipped, missing the fastening twice before he let out a low, frustrated hiss under his breath.

When the heavy wool of his outer robes finally loosened, he shrugged them off. He didn't catch them, they hit the floor in a heap of dark fabric. He stood there in his buttondown, the white cotton stark against the shadows, his chest rising and falling in a jagged rhythm. He looked down at her, his dark hair falling forward and obscuring his face, his eyes unfocused but burning with a singular, desperate intent.

"You look..." she started, her voice failing her. She wanted to say he looked human. She wanted to say he looked beautiful.
"Quiet," he muttered, the word ending in a soft, dry huff of a laugh that sounded almost like a surrender.
He leaned forward, his hands sliding over her shoulders to ease her back onto the pillows. The coolness of the sheets against her back was a shock, quickly eclipsed as he followed her down. His weight hit her with a solid pressure that anchored them both, driving the breath from her lungs in a startled gasp. He pinned her wrists above her head, his fingers lacing with hers, his grip tight enough to steady his own trembling hands.

The bed groaned under their combined weight, Y/N looked up at him, her pulse drumming against her skin where his fingers were locked with hers. He searched her eyes through the haze of the whiskey, and there was no mockery left in his expression, only a raw, heavy hunger that made the very air between them vibrate.

"Severus," she whispered, her voice breaking on his name. It felt like a prayer and a plea all at once.

"I have you," he rasped, his voice dropping into low.

He released her wrists, his hands sliding down her arms to find the hem of her blouse once more. He didn't rush. He moved with a heavy, intoxicated focus, his fingers trembling as he worked the remaining buttons. When he finally pushed the fabric aside, his breath hitched, a jagged, broken sound that filled the quiet room and sent a fresh wave of heat through her.

He leaned down, his lips grazing the sensitive skin of her collarbone, and her eyes snapped shut as she felt the stubble of his jaw against her skin. When his mouth finally found her breast, the sensation of his tongue, rough, hot, and insistent, sent a jolt of pure electricity through her. She arched off the mattress, a strangled moan escaping her as her fingers tangled in the dark, silk-soft hair at the nape of his neck, pulling him closer, desperate for the grounding weight of him.

"Tell me," he commanded, his voice muffled against her skin. "Tell me what you want, before I lose the sense to ask."

"Everything," she gasped. She felt a sudden, fierce possessiveness rise up in her, her legs wrapping around his waist to pull his hips flush against hers. "I want everything, Severus. Now."

He moved with a sudden, desperate urgency, his hands fumbling with his own remaining clothes until there was nothing left between them. The friction of his bare skin against hers was a shock, a sudden heat that made the cool air of the bedroom irrelevant. Y/N shivered, her skin sensitive to every hair on his chest and the sheer, solid weight of him pressing her into the mattress.

He didn't sink into her immediately. Instead, he braced himself over her, his arms shaking as he guided himself down. He began to rub the head of his cock against her, dragging his length through the wetness that he had already drawn out of her. The sensation was agonizingly slow, his heavy, swollen head slicking itself with her moisture until he was as drenched as she was. Y/N’s breath hitched in a series of shallow gasps, her hips bucking instinctively to find the fullness she was craving.

Severus let out a low, guttural groan, the sound vibrating deep in his chest and echoing through her own. He buried his face in the crook of her neck, his breathing coming in harsh, jagged pulls as the scent of her arousal and the whiskey hit him all over again.

"God," he rasped, his voice breaking under the weight of his own need. "You’re so... damn wet."

He pulled back just enough to look at her, his dark eyes glazed and unfocused, yet pinned to hers with a terrifying intensity. He continued to grind himself against her, the wet sliding sound of their bodies meeting filling the quiet space between the storm's howls. He watched her face, his jaw tightened and Y/N felt like she was on the verge of shattering, the friction building a pressure in her lower stomach that was becoming unbearable.

"I can't," he muttered, more to himself than to her, his control finally snapping like a dry branch. "I can't wait."

He adjusted his hips, the tip of him catching at her entrance before he finally pushed. He didn't go slow. He sank deep in one heavy, unyielding motion, his cock stretching her open until he was buried to the hilt. Y/N’s eyes flew open, a choked sound leaving her throat as she felt her body expand to take all of him. He froze there, his eyes closing and his head falling back as he let out a long, shuddering exhale, feeling the tight, searing heat of her clench around him.

The initial shock of the connection seemed to cut through the fog of the whiskey. As he felt her clench around him, Severus opened his eyes, and the gaze that met hers was no longer glazed. It was focused, predatory, and entirely present.
"You're far too tight for your own good," he rasped, his voice regaining its low, authoritative vibrato.

He didn't withdraw. He stayed buried inside her, his hips beginning a slow, agonizingly deep grind that made her breath catch in a series of broken hitches. Every time he rotated his weight, she felt the slick friction of her walls dragging against him.

"Is this what you wanted?" he whispered, leaning down until his lips were brushing against hers. "To feel exactly how much I've been holding back?"

He began to move in earnest then, his pace steady and punishingly rhythmic, a relentless, driving force. He didn't just take her; he navigated her, his hands pinning hers to the pillows as he used his weight to drive himself deeper with every thrust. The wet, rhythmic slap of their bodies meeting was the only sound in the room, a visceral echo of the storm still raging outside. Y/N could only cling to him, her world reduced to the feeling of him filling her, over and over, with a precision that was as beautiful as it was overwhelming.

Severus groaned, a low, guttural sound of pure friction as he felt her muscles begin to quiver and pulse around him. The whiskey was still a warm hum in his veins, but it was nothing compared to the searing reality of her.

He didn't let the rhythm break. Instead, he reached down, his hands hooking firmly under her thighs and hauling her legs up over his shoulders. The shift in angle was immediate and staggering. He leaned his full weight into her, the new depth forcing a choked, breathless sound from her lungs as he bottomed out. Y/N felt her breath hitch, her vision spinning as she was stretched to her absolute limit, the fullness of him leaving no room for anything else.

"God," he hissed, the word slipping out as a jagged, pained exhale.

He went still for a second, his eyes closing tight as he fought the urge to finish then and there. The way she was clenching, desperate, wet, and rhythmic, was almost more than his reclaimed coordination could handle. He was buried so deep she could feel the frantic, heavy thud of his heart against her own.

"You're trying to ruin me," he muttered, his voice dropping into that rough, gravelly register.

He began to move again, his thrusts shorter now, sharper, focused entirely on the friction at her entrance. Y/N’s head thrashed against the pillows, her hips stuttering in a desperate attempt to keep up with him. Every time he drove back in, the wet, squelching sound of him sliding through her slick folds filled the quiet room, a visceral reminder of just how completely she had come undone for him.

Severus reached down, his thumb finding the sensitive, swollen heat of her clit. He didn't use a light touch. He applied a firm, rhythmic pressure that forced her to stay present, even as the whiskey and the pleasure tried to pull her under.
"You're right there," he rasped, his eyes fixed on hers with an intensity that demanded her focus. His voice wasn't gentle; it was rough, vibrating with the effort of his own restraint. "Stop holding your breath."

"Severus... I can't," she gasped, her fingers clawing at the sheets until her knuckles went white. She felt like she was drowning in the sensation, her body coiling tighter and tighter until it was almost painful.

He didn't offer a platitude. He just leaned in until his lips were a hair’s breadth from hers, his pace becoming a steady, relentless driving force that pinned her to the bed. "You can. I want to feel it happen. I want to feel every muscle in you snap."

He didn't ask her what she wanted. He knew. He increased the pressure of his thumb, his thrusts becoming shallow and fast, hitting the same stinging, beautiful spot over and over until she was a mess of broken gasps and frantic, half-formed whimpers.

"Now," he commanded, the word more of a low, vibrating growl than a suggestion.

The weight of the command was the final push she needed. As the climax finally took her, Y/N let out a wrecked, wordless cry, her walls clenching around him in a series of violent, desperate pulses that made her whole body shatter. Severus didn't pull back. He drove into her one last time, bottoming out and staying there, his head falling back as his own release hit him with a sudden, jarring finality.

He spent himself deep inside her, his body jolting as he held her flush against the mattress. The earlier intoxication had been burned away, leaving only the heavy, quiet reality of their breathing and the cooling air of the room. Y/N lay beneath him, her mind a blank, white space, her body feeling heavy and buzzing with the aftermath.

Severus stayed buried inside her for a long time, his body heavy and still as the frantic rhythm of his heart slowly began to level out. The silence that followed was dense, broken only by the fading rattle of the storm against the stone. Y/N reached up, her fingers grazing the damp hair at his neck, wanting to hold onto the moment before the world rushed back in.

Eventually, he withdrew with a slow, heavy sound. The absence of his heat felt like a physical blow, leaving her feeling suddenly exposed and cold. He didn't offer a gentle word or a lingering look; instead, he sat on the edge of the mattress, his back to her. The sharp, focused clarity of the aftermath had replaced the haze of the whiskey, and the weight of the silence changed. It was no longer expectant; it was sobering, a cold reminder of the roles they would have to resume when the sun finally rose.

He reached for his clothes where they lay discarded on the floor. He moved with a stiff, guarded efficiency, sliding on his boxers and standing to retrieve his trousers. The armor was going back on. Y/N watched from the tangle of sheets, a hollow ache forming in her chest as the man who had groaned her name against the pillows retreated behind the wall of the Professor once more. The intimacy was being methodically folded away with every layer he reclaimed.

He didn't look at her as he fastened his belt. He didn't even speak until he had reached the doorway, his hand resting on the frame as he prepared to return to the guest room—or perhaps to face the freezing walk back to the castle despite the ice.
"Severus."

Her voice was small, cracked from the whiskey and the shouting, but it stopped him cold. She felt a sudden, sharp spike of panic at the thought of the door closing and the silence returning.

"Don't go," she whispered. Her fingers clutched the edge of the quilt, her knuckles as white as his. "The storm hasn't let up. Stay. Just... stay until morning."

Severus froze. He didn't turn around, but his shoulders tensed, his knuckles whitening where they gripped the wood of the doorframe. The invitation was a dangerous one. To stay meant acknowledging that this wasn't just a lapse in judgment fueled by a bottle of Old Gold; it meant letting the mask stay off for a few more hours, exposing the raw, messy truth of what they were to each other.

He stood there for an eternity, caught between the safety of the hallway and the heat still radiating from the bed behind him. Y/N held her breath, her heart hammering a slow, heavy rhythm against her ribs. The air in the room felt thick with the unspoken consequences of the night,a mixture of lingering exhilaration and a mounting, quiet trepidation.

Finally, his hand dropped from the doorframe. He didn't leave, but he didn't move toward her either. He simply stood in the shadows of the threshold, a dark silhouette against the dying orange light of the hearth, caught in the gravity of a choice he had already made the moment he poured the first drink.

The silence of the room was heavy, thick with the scent of spent adrenaline and the cooling embers of the fire. For a long beat, it seemed he might still choose the hallway, the safety of his isolation and the cold, familiar distance he had maintained for years. Y/N felt the rejection already beginning to sting, her grip on the quilt tightening as she prepared for the sound of the door latching shut.

Then, the floorboards groaned under his weight.
