Summary:

Zone learns how it is to miss someone.

Hey! I know this is kind of random. This is an original piece based on my project "Close Encounters". This is canon to its original story.

Chapter 1: emptiness and boredom

Chapter Text

"It's only for a week," Chalchi said before leaving for some political trip to another solar system. Apparently, that was quite common for the woman now, or always has been; Zone was just used to the more hermit version of her, not the galactic leader of a whole ancient empire.

Perhaps Zone intended to tag along - he did that sometimes -, but Chalchi very kindly asked him to stay and keep an eye out on their daughter who was going to be staying a few days at their house. The man just didn't count on the fact that Agata, their daughter, was courting someone and would be spending some time with that person. As a good obsessive spirit in the heart, Zone followed Agata in the beginning - or tried to. She specifically had to ask him not to follow her this time, as it was a matter of privacy. Something the man, although being a literal stalker, valued a lot when it came to romantic moments. This time, he'd give in. Just this time.

But that decision didn't prepare him for the absolute boredom that accompanied him the next few days while he just existed inside that house. It got to a point where he had read every single book of Chalchi's personal library. The ones that were in Spanish or English, at least. He even challenged himself to try to learn other alien languages, since there were also rellinians and martian books there. A new hobby, perhaps. But he soon got bored again, having no idea what to do anymore. For a creature like him, older than humanity itself, time was passing too slowly without the presence of his daughter and lover.

Heavens... was Zone becoming dependent on them? He didn't think it could be possible. Was this what it feels like to miss someone? What a terrible feeling. He wanted it to be over soon.

The days passed painfully slowly. But worse: Chalchi apparently had to delay her arrival for a few days longer than planned. Some emergency happened, and of course she had to stick her nose on. It wouldn't be her if she didn't try to solve every problem she encountered. Either way, even with the holographic video calls, it wasn't enough to fill the need of her Zone felt deep inside. It kind of became an... agony, perhaps.

One that ended suddenly when, after exactly 10 days, Chalchi entered by the main smart door that led to the living room - where Zone was sat on the couch having a pile of books by his side. It was already past midnight, so Agata was long asleep.

The man soon got up, standing somewhat awkwardly as if he waited for something. A wave of... relief? hit him when their eyes met, and Zone could see how Chalchi's gaze softened immediately. Her almost unnoticeable smile was enough to tell him that, yes, she was relieved too. And Zone was prepared for the consequences of these days apart, knowing how needy of affection and attention the woman usually was. But instead, Chalchi simply made her way to their bedroom without saying a single word to him, leaving Zone confused with a slight frown.

Where were his kisses and hugs? Unacceptable. Did she find someone else on the trip? Or she already had someone, and that's why she asked him to stay behind? The thought alone would make his blood boil if he had any.

Leaving murderous thoughts behind for now, Zone quickly followed Chalchi, finding her removing the usual tight nano-latex suit she wears when space travelling. He was aware that she hated the feeling of wearing those, but needed it to provide heat to her cold body. Getting inside, Zone locked the door to make sure they wouldn't be disturbed.

Walking closer to Chalchi, he started to remove the thick layers of clothing on his body like an instinct. On the other hand, Chalchi was already naked and, even if he enjoyed going slow and taking his time with her, he felt a little impatient this time. Maybe even needy. Zone knew she should be too - she always was, it was her hidden nature after all.

"I discovered something while on the trip," the woman let her body fall back on the oversized bed, putting her hands above her head and closing her eyes with a relieved sigh.

Zone followed suit and laid down on Chalchi, letting his weight press her body against the bed, only supporting the upper part of his torso with his elbows so he'd look at her face. He wasn't one to initiate physical contact, most of the time he'd let Chalchi take the lead just to start. Just once, he didn't. He leaned his face closer, letting his lips hover above hers as he whispered, "What was it?"

The man saw that small smile appear on her face again, feeling as one of her hands moved to caress his back, while the other held the back of his neck. She half opened her eyes, establishing eye contact once again.

"I haven't been able to sleep since I left for some reason. And I'm blaming you. Apparently, I can't sleep without you anymore and that's a problem."

Well, Zone wasn't expecting that. He expected bad news, since the irrational jealousy in his gut was screaming danger. And he probably would look a little surprised if he had such a range of emotions, but he didn't. He just stared for a moment before answering,

"I must admit, I am not entirely averse to the idea of you being dependent on me."

His words made Chalchi snort and roll her eyes, but she seemed satisfied enough. Zone was aware that she enjoyed his possessive behavior, even if she never spoke it directly.

"Only if you start being dependent on me, too." she closed her eyes and softly brushed her lips against his, "Ugh, I missed you..."

If she only knew.

Not daring to say something else about the subject, Zone closed the less than a centimeter gap, kissing Chalchi fiercely and letting out the pent up emotions he kept hidden since she left. It was a silent way of telling her that he missed her, too.

The kiss lasted until Chalchi was left breathless, and Zone had his knee between her legs, soon moving his lips to kiss her jaw then neck - earning a soft gasp he always took pride in being the reason for.

Zone felt the woman's body relax quickly as his lips made their way down to her collarbone, kissing the skin as if he was hungry enough to eat her. In both ways, he was. But soon the man noticed that Chalchi had stopped moving and making any sounds, leading Zone to just stop to look at her face - finding her with her eyes closed and mouth slightly open. If he wasn't attentive enough to see the almost unnoticeable but stable rise and fall of her chest, he would have thought Chalchi died right there. But no, she simply fell asleep before they could even do anything.

10 days without sleeping really took its toll on Chalchi.

Zone stared at her for a few more seconds before sighing slowly, moving his knee away and laying his head on her collarbone and neck, feeling the woman's weak pulse against his skin. The man closed his eyes knowing damn well he wouldn't sleep, but he would enjoy the feeling.
