Work Text:
Being a zombie comes with a long list of cons, one of them being the fact your body falls apart because of the rotting. This isn’t the first time one of Abigail’s limbs has just fallen off, but this is the first time she hasn’t been able to find it.
Abigail had been searching all over camp for her right arm.
‘How could I be so stupid’ she angrily mutters to herself in her frenzied search.
In the morning, she was helping prepare breakfast with Pearson. After that, Abigail was stitching up Jack's tattered clothes while Hosea taught Jack how to read. Then… what? Both tasks she needed both of her hands for, so when did her arm fall off? Was it when she ran after Jack as he chased a bird, leading him to stray from camp? Was it when she sat down with the other women in camp to chit-chat?
Abigail groaned aloud from the stress and worry she was festering while on her search. Sitting on a wooden box, her left hand cupping her head as her mind festered with anxiety, how would she pull her weight now if she couldn’t do basic tasks around camp? What about Jack? How can she protect Jack with one arm?
Abigail's mind conjured and crafted up all sorts of horrible scenarios, causing great anxiety to stir within her.
“Excuse me, Abigail?”
“What is it!?” She snapped.
John was holding her arm in his clawed hand.
“Well-” his raspy voice stuttered a little, “Well, I found something that belongs to you and-well, I thought I should probably return it.”
John stated.
Abigail's eyes flicked up at Johns, he couldn’t quite meet her gaze.
“Ah why thank,” she nodded acceptingly, reaching to take her arm back when John spoke up.
“Here let me.”
John held onto her detached arm as he gently grabbed her upper arm stump. Abigail watched as John lined them up together. The loud click of bones connecting back together made Abigail look away. John quickly turned to face Abigail, making eye contact with her, John forgetting in the moment that zombies can’t feel pain.
John backed away from Abigail.
“I’ll um-be on my way now” John turned his back to Abigail as he walked away.
“John”, Abigail called out. John turned back towards Abigail, curious puppy dog eyes searching Abigail's face.
“How’d you find it?” She questioned. John smiled faintly, fondness glazed his eyes.
“You have a distinct smell” John replied.
Abigail will always be put back together as long as she has John forever by her side.
