KIVAVERSE WORLD OF TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (NEW)
THE TALE OF HAMATO YOSHI
- Ninja clans still exist in the modern day, hidden away and working from the shadows to protect it. One of such clans is the Foot Clan. The two most prominent families part of the Foot are the Hamato Family and the Oroku family, both whom descend from the clan’s founders.
- Hamato Yoshi is the last of the Hamato bloodline. His best friend since childhood and brother in all but blood was Oroku Nagi, son of the current Clan head Oroku Yori. Nagi also has a little brother, Saki whom looks up to both Yoshi and Nagi.
- Nagi and Yoshi were equal in skill and ranking, and equally revered. And for all of Nagi’s good qualities, he had a bit of an ego and inflated sense of self-importance. Though it was often taken in good humor.
- Another ninja clan, the Order of the Lotus Blossom, would become allies with the Foot Clan. The best friends would meet Tang Shen, one of the Lotus Blossom ninjas. Though Nagi had a crush on her, she was not impressed with his jock-like behavior.
- Tang Shen was more a fan of the soft-spoken, humble and artistic Yoshi. Despite Yoshi wanting to take a step back because he knew Nagi liked her, Tang Shen managed to win him over, dating in secret.
- Nagi one day fumbled an important mission due to his arrogance. His father, disappointed decided that Nagi was unworthy as a heir. And Saki was too young, so instead he appointed Hamato Yoshi as a heir.
- Yoshi knew it meant too much for Nagi and politely refused to be the next clan head. Nagi would learn about this, and that Yoshi is dating Tang Shen. He felt is was a blow to his honor and breaks off his friendship with Yoshi. That same night, he vanished.
- Oroku Nagi in secret was building a splinter cell of the Foot Clan which he commanded. Instead of protecting the world from the shadows, he intended to control the world of the Shadow, the future that belonged to the Foot. A war between Foot factions broke out.
- Yoshi was one day takes by Yori himself to track down Nagi, to bring him back to the light…and to put him down should he fail. Saki overheard it and begged Yoshi to not kill Nagi. Yoshi promised to spare Nagi…but he shouldn’t have made the promise he couldn’t keep.
- Yoshi confronted Nagi one more time. He failed to talk Nagi out of his delusions and plans. A final fight broke out, with Yoshi killing Nagi. Before he passed, Nagi said ‘Forgive me, old friend.’
- Yoshi brought the news of Nagi’s demise. Saki ran off in anger at Yoshi for breaking his promise and would run away. Yoshi felt he had nothing left in the Foot. He lost his brother, he was the last of his family. Oroku Yori granted him his freedom from the Foot Clan. A mutual friend, Yukio Mashimi is instead chosen as the new Clan head. Oroku Yori would soon pass shortly after, a combination of his disease and the heartbreak over losing his sons.
- Tang Shen has also requested to be released from her clan, so she could be with Yoshi as they left the ninja life behind and start a peaceful life and a family together.
- Saki was found by a woman whom is leading remnants of Nagi’s rogue Foot Faction. She introduces herself as Kitsune, a family friend of the Oroku bloodline. The Oroku Bloodline was always meant to elevate the Foot, and asks Saki if he wants to continue where Nagi left off. Filled with revenge for his brother’s death, Saki would accept.
TRAGEDY
- Years later, Yoshi and Tang Shen were happy. Yoshi worked in security with a bit of artistry on the side, while Tang Shen became an archery tutor. They have become stable enough in life that they have bought a house, and plan on starting a family.
- Oroku Saki returns, and has taken over the foot Clan. He has taken the clan in a new direction and plans to get even with Yoshi for the death of Nagi. He offers Tang Shen the chance to run away and continue living her life in peace as he has no qualm with her. However, Tang Shen stands beside Yoshi.
- Oroku Saki now bears the Kuro Kabuto, which is a black mark upon the Oroku bloodline. It was created by Oroku Maji, whom became a tyrannical conquered and forged the emblems from slain foes into his helmet. They don’t know how Saki got the helmet, but it appears he has followed in Maji and Nagi’s footsteps.
- Yoshi fights Saki directly as Tang Shen fends off the other Foot Ninja, both having the upper hand against the Corrupted Foot. Tang Shen is disgusted to find Yukio Mashimi among the rogue Foot. He was supposed to lead the clan, but once Saki came back, he folded like a house of cards, instead of dying in honor he showed the coward’s way out.
- Kitsune looks on from the sidelines and with a snap of her fingers put the house on fire. It soon grows out of control and Tang Shen is killed when she is buried under burning rubble from the collapsing house. A heartbroken Yoshi stops fighting but Saki doesn’t want that. He wants Yoshi to fight for his life, a fight with honor. However, the burning building collapses on top of them. Saki comes out alive, but with heavy burns wounds, but Yoshi doesn’t.
- Yoshi has in fact survived, though he doesn’t know how he did it. But everyone believes him dead. He flees to America to start a new life. He would make a new living as a celebrity, making Kung Fu action flicks under the stage name Lou Jitsu. Hiding in plain sight, no one the wiser that he was Hamato Yoshi.
- One day, to combat his loneliness, he seeks out to buy a pet at Jones’ Pet Store. He passes the rats first until he sets his sight on a quartet of red-eared slider turtles. He takes them home, unaware that the pet shop would later be destroyed by the Purple Dragons, and the owner Arnold Jones killed, leaving beind a wife and son.
- Shortly after Yoshi comes across a bunch of strange people harassing a man. He jumps to the man’s defense and readily defeats the muggers. However, in the process he and the four little turtles are exposed to a green substance that the muggers had on hand. As a result, Yoshi is mutated into a rat mutant, and the four pet turtles grow into turtle mutant babies.
- The man he saved, Chet Allen, feels guilty for Yoshi and the Turtles turning out the way they do because they saved him. To repay him and to perhaps feeling he has to atone, he finds an underground abandoned subway station and helps it refurbish into a home for Yoshi and his new Turtle children. He promises he’ll also provide them with food and resources.
- Yoshi felt the man he was before is dead, and takes on the new name of Splinter. He names the four Turtles after his favorite renaissance artists: Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael.
RISE OF SHREDDER
- Oroku Saki aka the Shredder feels empty, his revenge feels incomplete as he wasn’t able to deliver the final blow in a honorable duel against Yoshi. And now he is in charge of the Foot Clan, which was a means to an end. But now Yoshi is gone he has no choice but to continue leading the clan. Oroku Saki slowly wipes out or takes over other ninja clans in Japan, and later takes control of the underworld.
- One day he meets Mayu Ryuzaki, martial artist and sister to crime boss Gou Ryuzaki. While her brother leads one of the most influential Yakuza chapters in Japan, he is running it into the ground. She vows to have the House of Ryuzaki serve the foot if her brother is outed, and her clan’s honor is restored. It is successful. Oroku Saki and Mayu have fallen in love, the latter looking beyond the scars and the darkness to see a man she loved.
- The two are happy, they have a daughter whom they name Karai. However, tragedy strikes as Mayu is killed by a mysterious assailant, but no one knew whom did it. No trace of the murderer, it leaves Saki even more unbalanced, with even more unresolved attachments. Saki is left to lead the Foot and leave little time to grief while trying to raise his daughter.
RISE OF THE TURTLES
- Eastman-Laird High School. Teenage girl April O’Neil is in trouble for supposedly creating a stink bomb and put it in the locker of popular girl, rich bitch and bully Taylor Martin. April is a well-known science prodigy at her age so she is suspected as she has a motif, as she was one of Taylor’s targets.
- April’s older sister and guardian Robyn comes in and picks up April. But not before admonishing the principal for not being able to proof April did it and judging her, and for wasting more time trying to accuse a victim then to deal with a bully like Taylor. April gets off, though Robyn knows her sister is probably guilty.
- April is brilliant but due to their parents having done missing and Robyn forced to provide for them both, they can’t afford a special school or tutor. So April is bored at school, and combined with the disappearance of her parents, she is a wreck. She has trouble connecting to her classmates, only having one friend, Ramona.
- Robyn works her ass off at Channel 6. She answers to the perpetually grouchy Burne Thompson and is forced to work with the arrogant and snooty Vernon Fenwick. Her only friend is Irma Langenstein.
- Robyn and April’s estranged uncle reaches out to them. He offers an internship for April during the weekends and vacations so she can develop her intellect. He wants to make up for not being in their lives since their parents vanished. April happily agrees. Robyn is skeptical but for April’s happiness, she agrees too. ‘Thank you, Uncle Baxter!’
- In their underground lair, the Turtles are in an intense training session with their Master Splinter. However, suddenly an army of robots called Mousers come in and destroy their home.
- They track the Mousers to StockGen, Baxter Stockman’s company. The Mousers were a project of his he intended to be pest control, but he is using it for more than that. Though no one, not even his nieces, know about his criminal agenda.
- However, April accidentally finds out about her uncle Baxter’s criminal activities. Baxter says he’ll have to contain April until she agrees to play nice. He doesn’t want her to get hurt, but he can’t allow her to reveal anything. He wants to say he’s doing things for a reason, but April doesn’t listen as she tries to get away, heartbroken by her uncle’s actions.
- Donatello, the most intelligent turtle, repairs a Mouser and uses it to track the Mouser back to the source. They trash Stockman’s lab and save April from him. April faints upon seeing the heroes.
- The trouble at StockGen draws attention. Baxter is forced to flee. He runs into a secret lair where a woman is in stasis. He sighs as he says ‘I’m sorry sis. You’ll hate me for what I’m doing but I won’t lose you. I couldn’t save mom, but I’ll save you.’
- April wakes up in the Turtles’ new lair. There she also meets Splinter. He and Chet Allen, whom is a science teacher at her school, are refurbishing the new lair. They share their history and origins with her.
- It is a lot for April to take in. The fact her uncle is a criminal, the Turtles. However, she is grateful to them for saving her and stopping her uncle’s criminal activities.
- Chet Allen said he kept his distance for her as she may accidentally get involved with the Turtles and that was a risk he couldn’t take. However, since April is now in the know, he can offer to tutor April like he did the Turtles.
- April returns home, getting glomped by a worried Robyn. She is glad April is safe and can’t believe that their uncle was a criminal. The two sisters console each other and promise to be there for each other.
- A news coverage follows the fall of StockGen, and it shows one of the shuriken the Turtles left behind with the Hamato family crest left on the scene. This report is seen by no one but the Shredder, whom realizes Hamato Yoshi is alive. He prepares to take the Foot Clan to New York, to settle things once and for all.

NOTES
- While I draw elements from all over the franchise, the 2003 TV series and the IDW comics will be the biggest influences here.
- Oroku Nagi form the original Mirage comics is often adapted out, but here I properly include him and weave in an updated backstory.
- The Order of the Lotus Blossom is a reference to Lotus Blossom from the 1987 Tv series.
- Yoshi’s stint as a movie star Lou Jitsu is inspired by the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cartoon.
- Yukio Mashimi hails from the 2003 TV series and was the replacements for Oroku Saki and Nagi in the backstory of Hamato Yoshi since the Shredder was a Utrom in that universe. Here he is another Foot ninja and reimagined further as a character.
- If you know the IDW comics, you know whom Chet Allen’s identity is.
- Like the 2012 TV series, Yoshi bought the Turtles as pets himself prior to his mutation.
- The pet shop and the Jones’ shop were not the same in any continuity, but I added it for a further connection.
- Kitsune is a character from the IDW comics. She was Shredder’s love here, but they don’t have that relationship in this universe.
- Oroku Maji was the father of Oroku Saki in the IDW comics. Here he is his ancestor and original Shredder. The Kuro Kabuto refers to the name for the Shredder’s helmet in the 2012 TV Show. Oroku Yori, which I instead use for Saki and Nagi’s father, is taken from the IDW comics where Yori was a descendant of Saki. So I flipped the names around. I thought Maji sounded more evil and Yori more benevolent due to the role I gave my versions.
- April is a teenager like the 2012 and Rise of the TMNT tv series, as well as the Mutant Mayhem Movie. Though she has her intellect from the 2003 TV series. Though she is not going to be a Kraang hybrid, I repeat NOT.
- Robyn, April’s sister from the comics is instead imagined as her older sister and caretaker and has April’s role as reporter and the supporting cast of Channel 6. It gives both sisters something to do and makes sure both of April’s jobs are acknowledged.
- Taylor Martin, April’s bully, hails from the Rise of the TMNT cartoon.
- Baxter was never related to April but in some continuities their families were acquainted or friends. I took it a step further.
- Robyn and April are biracial in this universe, half Caucasian and half African American. With April being African American in Rise of the TMNT and Mutant Mayhem, and their relationship with Baxter Stockman, it blended together nicely.
- Baxter Stockman had a brother, Barnie Stockman in the 1987 cartoon. So he still got a sibling in my universe, though it is a sister this time and it is the mother of the O’Neil sisters. Don’t worry, I have plans for the father and I’ll reveal those in future chapters.
- Mayu Ryuzaki is loosely based on Amaya Shen, Tang Shen’s sister and mother of Shredder’s daughter in the comics. Though she was the mother of Oroku Pimiko, whom was a different character from Karai. Though I made Karai the bio-daughter of the Shredder instead of being adopted or related differently. And I reimagined Mayu to not be related to Tang Shen.
- Gou Ryuzaki, her brother is a reimagining of a minor comic book character, Go-Komodo. Ryuzaki has the word ‘Ryu’ which is Japanese for ‘dragon’, and Komodos are known as Komodo Dragons. He’ll reappear.
- The ending is a ref to the ending of the two-parter pilot of the 2012 TV series.
- Ramona is not exactly an OC, more like an expy. While the original version of Irma from the 1987 cartoon exists as co-worker of Robyn, the goth punk teenage version from the 2012 TV series is her own character. Though she is not going to be a Krang in disguise. Also she may incorporate elements of different characters but I’ll go into those in later chapters.
