Work Text:

It was quiet in the former wind Hashiras estate. Only the sound of footsteps echoing on the silent hallway, With Sanemi dragging himself towards his room. His eyes red and swollen, filling a little dizzy from all the alcohol he drank.

Ever since Genya died in the final battle, Sanemi haven't been ok. Drinking more than what he drunk when he was a Hashira. Losing a the only family he had left was another level of pain, grief and it was numbing, he was broken into pieces. The brother he once tried so hard to protect died in his arms. Watching his body crumble into ashes like a paper burning. The picture of Genyas crumbling body still ingrave on his mind, the way he apologize for accusing Sanemi of murdering their mother.

Genya never even heard him apologize, Calling him "Nemi" one last time before his body disappeared. With only his demon slayer uniform and Haori being the only clothes he had left that reminded him of Genya.

He laid on his futon, his body slump and tired as he remembered the night before where he almost killed himself. There's no point in living if the only person he risked his life to protect died in his arms. He felt empty and dull, the numbing feeling in his heart and the burning sensation on his stomach as he drowned himself in alcohol. He hated drinking, it reminded him so much of his father. The Man who abused his mother non-stop, and He swore he will never be like him. He hated staring at the Sake bottle. The cold burning sensation of the liquor running down his throat, making his mind fuzzy and clouded was enough to remind him of his father.

How he would come home drunk, throw things around his siblings, and his mother trying her best to protect all her kids from getting hurt, to the point where she'll have bruises around her body. Sanemi once came home to see his mother's head bleeding. That's when he finally snapped and smashed a bottle of Sake in his father's head while he was sleeping. Sanemi had received and big black eye on his eye after that, but a part of him was satisfied that he was able to stand up for his mother. After that, whenever Sanemi is around, his father never tried to hit his mother. Often threatening to kill his father when he's sleeping soundlessly if he ever try to hit either his mother or siblings.

Sanemi slept soundlessly on the floor of his room, two bottles of sake scattered beside him. He cried himself to sleep, remembering the days he treated his brother horribly. If he only knew that it will lead like this, he could've had cherished the moment with Genya.

The moment Sanemi woke up, he was welcomed with a smell of a freshly made Ohagi and a fresh aroma of tea flowing on the air. He got up with a groan, his skull throbbing and is carrying a massive head ache.

He got up, stretching his body. Trying to losen his strained muscle from sleeping on the floor. He picked up the bottle of Sake and carried it along towards the kitchen.

When he got there, he noticed Giyuu- the former water Hashira stirring his tea while the fire on the stove roars, illuminating a yellow and orange hues around the kitchen wall. He threw the bottle of sake in the sink and walked towards the table. Letting out a loud sigh. Giyuu's head turns in for a second before continuing to what he was doing. Waking over the white haired man and placed his tea done.

"Thanks.." was all Sanemis could say, holding the tea cup by it's handle and lifts it up, placing the tea cup over his mouth and took a small sip. Letting the warmth envelope on his hangover body. He traced the almost healing wound over his neck to his throat. From where he tried to slice his throat the day before. It was quiet, all Sanemi could hear was the trickle of fire and the sound of kettle bubbling.

"You need to listen to me, Sanemi." Giyuu spoke, his back still facing Sanemi. And when he looked up, he saw Giyuu holding Genyas haori, the only thing that's left of his brother, over the fire.

Sanemi dropped the tea cup and sprint out of his seat, causing the item to stumble. Dashing through the fire attempting to grab the Haori from Giyuus grasp. But when Giyuu noticed him running, he inches the Haori towards the fire more, causing Sanemi to stop and drop on his knees.

"I-im really sorry!" Sanemi grasped out, gripping into his chest. Tears brimming over his eye lids.

"I won't do it again, I swear I won't. please-.. don't burn it!" Sanemi cried, dropping on the ground, kneeling and begging. His sobs echos through the kitchen as his shoulders shake.

"What are you not gonna do?! Be specific!!" Giyuu replied, his experience drawn in concern, sadness, and agony. The picture of Sanemi placing his nichirin sword over his throat is still fresh in his mind. Never would he thought that Sanemi would to such thing, especially when he knows he isn't alone anymore.

"I promise I'm not going to kill myself-.." Sanemi gasped out, his throat burning and his knees shaking. He crawled towards Giyuu and hugged on his legs tightly, his tears soaking Giyuu's pants.

"I swear I won't do it. Please believe me." Sanemi cried once more, trying to reach for Giyuus hands. Kneeling and clasping his hands together. Begging Giyuu with his eyes, that's the only thing left of Genya. And he don't know what he'll do if he loses it. Giyuu sighs, killing the fire with water and dropped on his Pulling Sanemi close and hugged him tightly, wrapping his hands around Sanemi's neck and gave him a comforting pat on the back.

"You need to open up to me Sanemi, you're not alone anymore. You have me." He whispered softly, pulling away from the hug and handed the Haori to Sanemi, who was quick to grab it and hugged it on his chest, he looked up to Giyuu with his red, bloodshot eyes and nodded his head.

Giyuu smiled and used his thumb to wipe away Sanemis tears, giving his eyes a soft kiss. Theire relationship had been close to the point where kissing each other seems normal.

"Genya tried his best to protect you, Sanemi. even though he wasn't able to do much. Do you think he'll like the idea of you trying to end yourself? You both fought hard, but there's always a tragic exchange to it." Giyuu whispered, his words were comfort. And it was enough to ease Sanemi's mind. He hugged Giyuu again, his hands sneak around his waist and pulled him close. His mind was suffocating that he forgot about Giyuu. They only have 3/4 years left to live, and he wouldn't want to spend it with Giyuu, depressed and isolated.

Sanemi wants to spend the few years he had left with Giyuu, happy, carefree. Enjoying the morning with Giyuu. Wanting to feel contented and Satisfied. Not wanting to think about death lurking around, and the dangers of demons. He wants to be there for Giyuu, to protect him and provide with everything he needs.
