It was three in the morning on the Saturday of raceday of the first ever Las Vegas Grand Prix and Lance who should’ve have been sleeping was currently waiting in a parking lot hypnotized by the bright flashing lights. Time was different in Las Vegas, and while a sleeping Chloe and Esteban in the backseat didn’t seem to notice, Mick in the passenger side picked up on Lance’s anxiety.
Mick jokingly- “He would be running late to his own wedding.” Mick’s joke gets Lance to laugh and snap back into reality.
Lance- “Yeah, he really is the worst at being on time. He says it’s just a cultural thing, but I’m sure he just had trouble waking Fernando up and sneaking Carlos out. You know how loud they can be when they are together. And the last thing we need is the press or a fan to spot us.”
Esteban waking up- “The worst thing would be for your fathers to find out from the press or a fan posting it on social media.”
Mick- “Why are you guys getting married like this?”
Despite how rough the season had been for him and his fiancé Checo, Lance would say that the worst part of it had been the wedding planning. Its not that Lance didn’t want to marry Checo, he had been the one to propose after all, it’s just that the actual wedding planning had been giving Lance and Checo many sleepless nights. Both Lance and Checo had overbearing (but loving) fathers and families who had opinions on every idea that Lance and Checo had shared. But between the stress from the season and the guilt about the annoyance at their fathers, both drivers decided they needed to do this for themselves and that any drama from their family that came after they would deal with it as a married couple.
Lance looks at a still sleeping Chloe before answering.
Lance- “Honestly, it’s because of our dads. My dad and Antonio get along for the most part and the rest of the family do too, but this wedding has made them lose their minds. They both want huge extravaganzas and Checo and I want something smaller. We both love our fathers and understand that they have always just wanted the best for us, but Checo and I think this is what’s best for us.”
Chloe still half asleep - “I agree!”
Lance, Mick and Esteban yelp, startled by Chloe.
Esteban- “I thought you were asleep.”
Chloe- “I was , but Paola just texted, they should be pulling up right about now.”
Bright lights coming from a giant Ford Expedition shine directly into the car causing Esteban to mutter out some curse words in French. All the car occupants exit the vehicle and meet up with the group from the truck. Carlos, Fernando, Mick, and Esteban enter the tacky wedding chapel, while Chloe and Paola hold back their brothers to give them a wedding talk.
Paola- “I am so happy for you guys.”
Chloe- “I am too, I know you guys wish both of our dads could walk you down the aisle, but I hope Paola and I are enough.”
Checo- “Thank you both for being here for and for keeping it a secret.”
Lance- “Well, let’s go get married. A sleepy-grumpy Fernando and Esteban might kill each other.”
Checo- “You’re right, mi amor. Thankfully we have night race tonight.”
After the I dos were said, 1st kiss was given and photos were taken the group walked back to their cars. It was pushing six in the morning and the desert sun was starting to rise. Needing to get some sleep, Lance and Checo depart back to their hotels with one last kiss. After the race when Lance and Checo post the photos, the internet explodes along with their phones. The two men turn them on silent mode and lock themselves in their honeymoon suite that they had secretly booked. Thankful that their sisters had agreed to handle their families, while Mick,Esteban,Fernando and Carlos agreeing to deal with the people from the paddock.
