Soap feels weird.
No, not him personally feels weird - his body feels weird ... if that made sense.
It doesn't necessarily hurt, but his whole body aches and it's just not a comfortable feeling all in all.
He kinda fells like he is floating. That's a nice feeling. Even if he kind of wishes his head would stop spinning in circles.
...
Why was his whole body aching though?
He tries to feel his legs and feet. To make sure his lower body half is alright. Because a thought, all the way in the back of his head, says that that's important - and it does sound important, so he listens to the voice.
He tries to wiggle his toes and... success.
Beneath the thin (and kinda weird feeling) blanket, he only now noticed, that covered his body from his toes all the way up to his chest, he feels his toes wiggling. As well as his legs in general.
His lower body at least is working.
Now - upper body.
He decides to try his hands first. His hands are important after all.
And hell yeah, he also feels hi- there was something in his right hand.
What the... ?
His eyebrows pulled together as his whole face scrunched up, when he tried to lift his head.
Huh, his eyes were still closed. He hadn't noticed that.
"Stay down, Johnny," says a voice on his left, as a hand settles down on his chest - right over his heart.
The voice is soft and rumbling, the hand on his chest big and warm.
Man, that's a nice voice. A nice hand as well.
"Can ah sit up at all?", he asks, because he wants to sit up. He doesn't like laying down in an unknown (and to be honest uncomfortable) bed in an unknown place. It makes him feel vulnerable in a way he doesn't like. It feels like his whole body is anticipating something, while at the same time still feeling like it's floating.
Seriously, that's not a nice feeling.
"Wait a minute. When the doctor comes in, I'll ask if they can lift you up."
Soap hums to show he understood, but doesn't say anything else. He is feeling tired and suddenly the thought about sitting up doesn't sound that appealing anymore.
"Just eat the cracker," the voice continues.
The cracker?
His right hand tightens and he remembers that he had something in his hand - OH!
He opens his eyes (and actually manages to only open them a small smidge, but hey, it's enough that he can see something and his eyes feel tired, give him a break) and looks down at the hand he had raised to his face.
The warm voice was correct. There in his right hand, he is holding a cracker.
He hums again - he doesn't really want to eat the cracker. His stomach doesn't feel hungry and the thought of eating the dry food, that leaves crumbles everywhere and gets stupidly stuck between his teeth, just doesn't sound appealing at all.
He doesn't want to disappoint the voice though.
Sighing he raises his hand to his mouth and nibbles a bit on the cracker.
The dry cracker that is already breaking apart in small pieces that are falling down onto his blanket as well as his skin.
He really doesn't like crackers.
Still eating the few pieces he managed to actually get in his mouth, that are already staying stuck in his teeth, he turns his head to the left and opens his eyes again.
His mouth falls open and his eyes widen in shock.
There on his left next to the bed (so he really wasn't floating, that's nice to confirm) is a man, sitting in a too small and uncomfortable looking chair. A big man. Like a really huge man with a lot of big muscles and blonde hair.
Blue eyes meet his, long lashes circling them.
Damn this man was right bonnie. Unfairly big and blonde and muscly and so so bonnie.
Soap is reminded of the hand on his chest. It's warm and really big - like, it's big enough to cover the upper part of his chest (and he is not small, no matter what people say) and it feels like the man is holding his heart in his hand. Or maybe he is protecting it? Maybe he is keeping it inside, because Soap is sure his heart wants to jump out of his ribcage with how fast it's beating.
Small lines appear besides the nice eyes when the man smiles - and even his smile is breathtaking.
"Did the doctor send you?", Soap finally manages to get out of his mouth after stupidly staring for a few silent seconds.
"Maan yer eye candy!"
These a noise further behind the man, but Soap doesn't look what it was. All his attention is on the blond man in front of him. He was really blond. And really bonnie.
The man doesn't answer, just shakes his head with the same small smile on his face. "Just keep eating your cracker."
But Soap definitely doesn't want to eat his cracker anymore.
"Yer the bonniest lad ah have ever seen! Are yer a model?"
The man chuckles and oh god is that a nice sound. Soap wishes he could catch the sound and he could keep it with him all the time. Just hearing it is making everything feel better.
Is the man a magician?
"Nope, but I'm gonna be right here with you. Just eat your cracker."
"What are ya then?", Soap asks, because the man should totally be a model. Like it's not funny that he was not a model. Tall (from what Soap could identify from his limited view), big, a lot of muscles, a sharp jaw line, white teeth, veery stunning blue eyes and really blonde hair - also he had a lot of scars.
There was one bisecting his lips, so that you can see a little bit of his teeth even with his mouth closed, there was a small one on his chin, one on the bridge of his nose, a big one starting at the earlobe crossing through the eyebrow all the way to his hairline - he even had some smaller ones on his hand.
Those scars didn't make him ugly or in any other way unattractive or dangerous - they were a part of him and added to his beauty.
Maaan he really should be a model - Soap would be his number one supporter. Soap worked in the military, he knows his guns, maybe he could be the bodyguard?
"What's my job, you mean?"
Soap blinked and looked up from where he was caressing the man's hand. He didn't even notice he was doing that. It was a nice feeling. The hand was warm and big, swallowing his own hand whole, and rough, but was holding his oh so gently, like the smallest movement could break his bones.
He totally forgot what they were talking about - all of his thought were on the big hand intervening their fingers together.
Steamin' jesus, he was holding hands with an angel. He could die in piece now.
"Johnny? You solid?"
Johnny. Oh how sweet he was.
Normally he hated to be called Johnny. Only his grandparents were allowed to do that and even then it's not often that they do so.
But getting called Johnny by this man didn't make him feel bad, didn't made him feel like he was getting teased or something like that - he said it so softly, so full of emotions, like a warm caress only allowed between them and Soap feels his heart singing happily in his chest.
The man was totally an angel. There was no changing his mind now.
The hidden angel at his side chuckled and squeezed his hand. "You're still really out of it, huh? Come on, continue eating the cracker, it'll make you feel better."
"Ya make me feel better," Soap answered immediately, but did what was asked of him.
"What's yer name? Who are ya?"
"I am Ghost," he leaned down and just as Soap was preparing to open his mouth (because "Ghost" was definitely not a name, who the hell would name their child that, what did the poor babe do to deserve that - but it also rings a bell, the man is his L.T., they are both in the military, in a special Task Force, so luckily no woman went crazy and named her child "Ghost") he whispered: "- but for you I am Simon."
Simon leaned back and Soap followed the move with wide eyes, while mouthing the name.
So not an angel but a devoted follower, a worshiper of Jesus.
Oh if only Soap could move, he would be absolutely ready to worship the holy body in front of him.
"And I'm your husband."
The cracker fell from his hand and landed on his chest.
"Yer ma husband?!"
The man chuckled while the sound from before sounded again - once more it is ignored because steamin' jesus apparently he had a husband! How did that happend?
"Holy shit! Haw long?"
The man didn't answer, just reached with his unused had forward to pick the cracker up again and give it to Soap.
"Do we have children?"
And holy shit until his mouth asked the question his mind hadn't even though about it. Children - now that was a thought.
Even if the other man clearly tried to be big, scary and dangerous, Soap just knew he was a big ol' softy on the inside. He imagined the man would be really good with kids. He could probably lift them up so easily, with his big hands and big muscles. He would look adorable with a child sitting on his broad shoulders, talking away while he glared at everyone who looked at the pair wrong. All while Soap walked along, holding Simon's hand. Oh yeah, that was a nice thought.
"No, we don't. We've got a cat though."
"Oh!", Soap's eyes got big - he always wanted a cat! Well okay, when he was a child he always wanted a dog, because his grandparents had a dog and she was a real sweetheart, but during his time in the military his feelings towards dogs changed and so changed his wish of owing one.
Dogs can be cute and nice, sure, but they can also be brutal killers - he learned that lesson the hard way. No thank you, he'd rather have a cat and apparently now he did.
His face scrunched up as he thought. "What's its name?"
"Her name is Mirage."
And suddenly Soap remembers.
Remembers a cat with a white body, beige legs along with dark brown paws (looking like boots, he always says), with a dark brown tail. The outer part of her face (so fluffy and soft) is white as well, with her ears being beige and the inner part of her face being dark brown, nearly black - it looks like she is wearing a mask.
Remembers her eyes are a shining azure blue. Piercing, knowing, like she already knows your deepest, darkest secrets and is one cuddle away from revealing it all.
Remembers the way she would follow them when they are at home, always a silent comfort, but also her ability to vanish into thin air, just like Ghost, thus her name.
He gasps and pouts: "I wanna see her."
Simon chuckles and lifts his other hand, the one not holding Soap's hand, to push Soap's hand holding the cracker to his mouth again.
"Finish the cracker and you'll see her in no time."
There was a short silence between them, with Soap taking a bite from his cracker (he is nearly finished now, thank god), while Simon watched him, smiling softly. The lines surrounding his eyes are there again - Soap wants to kiss them.
Wants to kiss the lines surrounding his eyes, the many scars on his face (and probably the rest of his body), his hands, his lips, oh his lips. He really wants to kiss him.
"Have we kissed yet?"
"We have. A lot actually," his voice sounds funny, like he is holding back another chuckle, but that would be stupid. Firstly why would he chuckle at his normal question and secondly why would he hold back his (breathtaking, gorgeous) chuckle? Now, that would be silly.
"C'mon love, nearly finished. Eat your cracker."
Once again, Soap's mind blanks. Love. He didn't know he liked pet names, but apparently he did. As if Johnny wasn't sweet enough, now Simon tried to get him killed with "love".
"But it's hard, it's hard, baby, it's hard."
He takes a bite anyway - anything to make Simon happy.
While eating he gets another thought.
"Do we call each other baby?" It seems like such a silly pet name compared to "Johnny" and "love".
"Sometimes. Though you mostly call me darlin'."
Soap nods. "That sounds better. 'Cause yer ma darlin'."
Simon grins, his cheeks getting little red. "That so?"
Again Soap nods. It's important that Simon understands their pet names.
"A'm yer love, yer ma darlin' and Mirage is our princess."
"Fair enough," Simon chuckles.
Soap looks Simon up and down. He is gorgeous, but while he is laughing? He is breathtaking.
"Haw long have we been married for?"
"Nearly four years, though we've been together for nearly seven."
Soap groans. "Ah hit the jackpo'!"
"Bloody hell, how strong were the painkillers they gave you?", Simon asks, his cheeks getting red again.
"Don't know, don't care. Yer perfect. Absolutely bonnie. Can ya turn around?"
Again there is the sound, this time though, Soap looks in the direction.
His eyes light up.
"Price! Gaz!"
Standing near the closed door, leaning on the wall are their Captain, as well as the other Sergeant.
Both come closer to the bed.
"Hey son, how are you feeling?", asks Price and stands with his arms crossed, a warm smile on his face. Gaz sits down on the bad at Soap's feet, a hand on his legs to show he is there.
"Ah have been worse, Captain."
"That's not as comforting as you might think it is," Gaz chuckles.
"Haud yer weesht."
All three men chuckle and Price turns to Ghost.
Soap turns his attention to Gaz.
"Ya ken, ah got a husband," he whispers to not draw attention to himself (but fails miserably, not that he is none the wiser. The other three have to hide their amusement, not that Gaz can keep his shit eating grin off his face).
"I know, you idiot, I was there."
"Ya what?!"
Soap's head turns to the smiling captain.
"Where ya there as well?"
Price nods and as Soap's jaw falls open, Gaz continues: "Laswell, as well as Alejandro and Rudy were there."
For the third time today his mind blanks.
"Ya ken we have a cat as well?"
"Yep, we even met her. She's a real sweetheart."
Soap just nods proudly, still unable to say anything. He had a husband, an absolutely gorgeous husband, a cat and apparently all of his friends were there for their marriage.
"Now that's right braw...", he murmers and grins.
"Right, before you manage to break him completely, we better go and get a doctor."
Ghost nods in thanks towards their Captain and as Gaz stands up, he turns to him: "You better send me the video."
Gaz grins: "'Course. Have fun you two, we'll see you later."
Price lays a hand on Soap's shoulder and squeezes. "Good to have you back, son. Get well."
"Aye, Captain."
The other two leave the room.
Soap nibbles on the cracker again and his eyes grow big as his fingertips meet his lips.
"Ah finished the cracker!", he says and waves his, now thankfully empty, hand around, which Simon catches with his other.
Soap looks down (they are now holding hands with both of their hands ... with all four of their hands?) and notices something.
"Yer not wearin' a ring."
Simon lets go of one hand and raised it to his neck. With an easy motion, a silver chain is brought to light. His dog tags shine pretty where they are resting over his heart. Right next to them sits a ring.
"So it doesn't get lost during a mission."
Soap nods in understanding and thumbs the ring.
"It's pretty. I must really love ya."
Simon chuckles and takes his other hand again.
"You do. And I love you, so please try not to get hurt again."
"I'll try," Soap promises.
A few days later, when they are laying in their bed, cuddled together with Soap's head on Simon's chest, listening to his deep breaths, being comforted by the pounding of his heart and Mirage sleeping like a warm heating pad at his back, he remembers his promise in the hospital and swears to himself to do anything in his power to never leave this vulnerable man alone ever again.
