Work Text:

“Please Introduce yourselves.”

Jungkook looked at the camera with ease, “I’m Jeon Jungkook, I’m a model.”

Taehyung removed his glasses before folding it to his collar, “I’m Kim Taehyung, a history professor at SNU.”

“How do you two know each other?”

Jungkook pressed his tongue to his cheek, and nudged Taehyung with his foot.

Taehyung sighed. “We’re exes. We dated for two years.”

“Mhm.”

“Are you two ready to play truth or drink?”

Jungkook gave a thumbs up with his hand. Taehyung nodded.

Both of them sat far away from each other, the spaces between their chairs obnoxiously wide.

“When you can’t answer the question you have to drink.”

Jungkook crossed his arms, “We already know that.”

Taehyung didn’t look at Jungkook as he replied, “They’re doing it for perfunctory purposes.”

“I was just saying.”

“You were being rude.”

The camera panned towards Jungkook’s expression as he made a face, his eyes rolling back, lips pursed.

“Of course, of course. Since you know everything so well.”

Taehyung ignored him. “You can start asking your questions.”

“Who asked the other out first?”

“Me.” Jungkook frowned unhappily, he slid the shot glass closer to his side of the table and tilted it side to side.

“He did.”

“I was blinded by your fake personality.”

Taehyung mocked, “You were the one who was tripping on his feet just to ask for my number.”

“I think you’ve got your facts wrong.”

“Indeed, the time you accidentally spilled hot chocolate on my test papers trying to surprise me with my favourite drink was also a false memory.”

Jungkook pressed his lips together.

He mumbles, “That was my bad.”

“Something you wish to say to each other after meeting today.”

Jungkook grumbled, “You’re still as sensitive as ever.”

Taehyung ignores him, smiling calmly towards the camera. “Please excuse his brash language, it’s always been one of his shortcomings.”

Jungkook scoffed, “And your charming personality is any better?”

“You fell for me first.” Taehyung raised a brow, “So yes, my ever so charming personality had you down bad.”

Jungkook clicked his tongue, looking away.

Not denying.

“Who fell out of love first?”

“Me.” They both answer at the same time.

Jungkook scoffed, “Seriously?”

The man sat beside him looked at the shot glass filled with alcohol and contemplated whether or not to drink,

in the end—

“When you missed my birthday.”

Taehyung fiddled with the shot glass and smiled, “It started then.”

Jungkook’s mouth opened and closed several times, before murmuring, “I’m still sorry about that.”

Taehyung hummed, “I know.”

The camera zoomed in on Taehyung’s face as his eyes remained trained on the glass fit in between his two fingers, “Doesn’t mean it hurt less when it happened.”

Jungkook bit his lip and looked away, “Next question please.”

“When did you break up?”

Jungkook blinked, his mouth unconsciously moving, “February 14, 2021.”

Taehyung scanned his gaze over him, before nodding along.

“We broke up during valentines day.”

The younger of the two noticeably winced at the words. “Pretty iconic day to break up huh.”

Taehyung leaned back on his chair and stared at the camera with uninterested eyes. “It was just another day where I didn’t love you anymore.”

Jungkook flinched. The lenses caught the way his brows furrowed before instantly smoothing out, turning into a  passive expression mirroring Taehyung’s.

“What was your first impression of each other?”

Jungkook reached for his shot glass instantly, but a quick hand was faster at holding his wrist captive.

Jungkook snapped his head to the side, “What?”

Taehyung raised a brow, “Why so quick to drink? Can’t say your first impressions to an ex?”

Jungkook clicked his tongue, retracting his arm to cross it over his chest. “Isn’t the point of the game to drink and answer questions? You’re just being nit-picky.”

“Correction,” Taehyung gave the camera a cursory glance before folding his hand to lean his chin onto it, “You drink when you don’t wish to answer a question.”

“Same thing.”

“Uh huh.”

Jungkook frowned, “Got a problem with me?”

Taehyung smiled, but it held no sincerity. “Not at all.” He nudged Jungkook’s shot glass to his direction before turning to face the camera.

“I thought he was the dumbest little human on earth, he was trying to buy an inflated jacuzzi in ikea, can you believe that?” Taehyung chuckled, a foreign glint in his eyes as he reminisced.

Jungkook squawked, “It was cool at that time!”

Taehyung hummed, “Sure it was.”

“What quality do you like about each other?”

The two of them stared at the camera in undisguised disgruntlement.

“Who made these questions?” Jungkook eyed his shot glass and complained.

Taehyung sighed, visibly done with everything related to the show.

“Well, if I were to look for a good quality in..” Taehyung eyed Jungkook, “him.”

Jungkook widened his eyes in offence. “Excuse me?”

Taehyung shook his head, “I’d have to look very, very closely.”

“Hey! You’re being piss—“

“But I’d say, his one good quality is that he’s cute.” Taehyung drawled, smirking at the camera.

Jungkook’s voice trailed off, the ends no more than a whisper.

Taehyung turned his gaze towards Jungkook’s flushing cheeks and laughed, “Don’t get too flustered. It’s the only positive quality I can associate with .. someone like you.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

Taehyung waved his hand in the air. “Whatever you want it to mean.”

“Hey—!”

“You’re not going to answer the question?” Taehyung pointed at Jungkook’s glass.

Jungkook looked at the camera in annoyance, “His only good quality is that he used to be my boyfriend, hence associating with me in the past is the only good thing he’s worth.”

Taehyung stayed quiet for a few seconds before snorting, his hand fiddling with the shot glass went up to tip it to his lips.

Jungkook opened his mouth to complain when,

“Next question.” Taehyung placed the glass down, empty.

“Do you regret breaking up?”

“No.” They both answer simultaneously.

Jungkook’s eyes flitted to stare at Taehyung’s face, but Taehyung stayed the same, eyes only to the camera.

The camera catches the way Jungkook bites his lip before looking away.

“Have you had another relationship after breaking up?”

“No.” Jungkook murmured, averting his eyes from the camera.

Taehyung smiled at the camera, “None.”

Jungkook jolted and stared at Taehyung in wonder, “Really?”

“Why? Are you interested in asking me out again?” Taehyung laughed unkindly.

“Wha-What?! Of course not!”

“Is that so?”

Jungkook grumbled, “Who would want to get back together with you?”

Taehyung drummed his fingers on the table’s surface as he cocked his head to the camera, “That’s his answer. Next question.”

Do you miss sleeping together?”

Jungkook bumped his knee on the table and hissed, “What the fuck?”

Taehyung looked at the camera, unimpressed , “What creative liberties you’ve taken into making such .. profound questions.”

“Yeah! What he said.. just what..” The camera secretly panned towards Taehyung’s direction, the older of the two not realising that he was inclining his head towards Jungkook’s direction with amusement softening his features.

Jungkook grumbled, “M’gonna drink.”

Taehyung leaned towards the camera, a teasing grin on his face, “He’s just too shy to say yes.”

“Kim Taehyung!! YOU—“

“Why did you break up?”

The both of them reached out to drink their alcohol.

A unanimous action as they tipped it over their lips at the same time.

Taehyung swiftly placed the small cup down, a fluidity to his movements that showed his experience with drinking.

Jungkook, on the other hand, like the last few times he drank his glass, had a pinched expression on his face as he swallowed.

“Are you sure drinking is a good idea?”

Jungkook coughed, “Shut up.”

“I won’t take you home if you pass out.”

“Who says I’ll pass out?! My alcohol tolerance is perfectly fine.”

Taehyung rolled his eyes, “ Perfect. Totally.”

Jungkook rubbed his eyes with his hands and indignantly turned away.

“The next questions will be asked to each other. You’ll take turns to pick from the flash cards.”

The staff placed a deck of cards in the middle of the table. The two men eyed it with suspicion.

“You go first.” Taehyung gestured.

Jungkook pressed his lips together in distaste before belatedly reaching out to swipe a card.

He reads, “What do your friends think of me?”

“They think you’re a pretentious bratty child.” Taehyung leaned back in his chair and tipped his head, his lips curling up. “Jimin complains that all your photoshoots have the same concept and that you lack versatility.”

“He still hasn’t dropped that complaint?”

Taehyung snickered at Jungkook’s disgruntled expression, “Every time he sees your photos on the front page of a famous magazine his mouth works overtime to criticise your ‘bad boy’ image, when you’re the complete opposite.”

“I do fit the bad boy concept!” Jungkook braced his hands to the table and looked at Taehyung with passion ( eyeliner ) in his eyes. His cheeks lightly dusted red from slight intoxication.

“Sure. Put more eyeliner and slick your hair into spikes then it’ll seem more believable.”

“Have you kissed anyone else after our break-up?” Taehyung read, diverting his gaze to stare at Jungkook in curiosity.

“I’m not answering this.” Jungkook reached for his fourth glass, when-

Taehyung snatched it away, his face still turned toward the camera as he swirled the liquid inside. “You sure about that? Better just answer the question than darken the shade of your cheeks.”

“I’m not drunk!” Jungkook furrowed his brows, the tips of his ears noticeably pink. His cheeks ruddy and his eyes half lidded.

Taehyung nodded in acquiescence but had yet to let go of the shot glass.

“Okay. Then answer the question.”

“Don’t wanna.”

“Why?” Taehyung finally turned his head, facing Jungkook’s affronted face head-on.

“Cause I don’t want to.”

Taehyung ran a hand through his hair and looked away. “Answer the question, Jungkook.”

A tattooed hand grasped the hand Taehyung held the shot glass in.

The camera instantly zoomed in on their touching hands.

“Stop being annoying and let me drink.”

“No.” Taehyung tipped the glass over his lips.

Jungkook groaned, snatching the glass away instantly after Taehyung put it down. He stared at the empty glass forlornly, a pout unconsciously forming on his lips as he glared at Taehyung.

“I don’t need your help!”

“I didn’t help you.”

“Bullshit.”

Taehyung clicked his tongue, “language.”

“And I told you I don’t need someone to cover for me! I can win this without you butting in.”

“Then answer the question.”

“Fine!” Jungkook exclaimed, seemingly forgetting the presence of the camera in the room as he made eye contact with Taehyung.

“I did kiss someone after we broke up!”

Taehyung maintained eye contact and quirked his brow, “Congratulations?”

The camera catches the way his hands clasped on the table clenched together, the muscles on his forearms visibly flexing from the strain.

Jungkook breathed out, losing his previous bravado as he averted his gaze, “It was horrible. He kept trying to stick his tongue down my throat and it was gross.”

Taehyung hummed. The camera zooms in on his hands as his knuckles tightened their grip. In contrast with his impassive face.. his body language was the opposite.

“And?”

Jungkook huffed, looking away, “What and? I answered the question, didn't I.”

Taehyung opened his mouth to ask but ultimately shut it closed.

Jungkook blinked, a hint of drowsiness in the heaviness of his actions as he reached for a card.

“Do you..” He frowns, “still think I’m attractive?”

“What?” Jungkook turned to face the staff, incredulously twisting his face.

Taehyung leaned his elbows on the table, “Is that even a question? Of course. I may hold mild grievances from our past together but that doesn’t mean I’m blind.

“Uh huh.” Jungkook nodded in response, an offended purse to his lips.

“I’m a model! Obviously the answer can only be yes.”

“Mhm.”

The camera zooms in on Taehyung’s gaze straying to his side, fondness seeping in its intensity.

“Did your past relationship raise your standards in finding a significant other?”

Taehyung read the question with curiosity, the angle of his body leaning towards Jungkook.

Jungkook blinked, his mouth unconsciously frowning, “I don’t like these questions.”

“That wasn’t the question, Jungkook.”

“When you say my full name like that you sound so old.”

“Are you avoiding the question?”

Jungkook pushed his chair farther away from Taehyung’s and crossed his arms.

“So what if it did?” He answers, but there’s no real animosity in his intonation.. it sounds airy, somewhat lost.

Taehyung straightened in his chair and looked away. “That’s good to know.”

Jungkook bit his lip.

“Was I ..a good lover?” Jungkook read the words slowly, the hand holding the flashcard twitched.

Taehyung answers instantly, “You used to be.”

You used to be.

“Oh.” Jungkook dumbly nodded.

The camera zooms in on Jungkook’s expression, his pupils were dilated, for what reason, unknown.

“I don’t regret it, us.” Taehyung says, though his expression is neither sad nor happy.

Jungkook kept silent.

“Something.. you wanted to tell me when we broke up.” Taehyung read the question, averting his eyes to stare at Jungkook pointedly.

The younger man wasn’t looking at him, his eyes were intensely trained on the flash card as if he held a personal vendetta against it.

Taehyung stayed quiet.

The camera panned outwards, capturing the both of them, one silently observing and the other seemingly lost in his own thoughts.

Maybe the alcohol was setting in.

“I’m selfish.” Jungkook murmured.

“On the day..” He took a shaky breath, “On the day of your birthday last year.. the one I missed— I was there .”

Jungkook looked up, meeting eyes with Taehyung. “I skipped my schedule just so I could catch up to you in time.” He grimaced, “But ah.. When I got there, you seemed happy.. really happy.”

Jungkook looked away, “You were all smiles celebrating with your students…you celebrated just fine without me . I didn’t want to intrude. I can’t help it if you’re perfectly okay without me.”

“Between the two of us.. I needed you more than you did me.”

Jungkook wiped his eyes in a motion pretending to wipe sweat and laughed, “And it’s whatever! I was .. was just answering the question you picked.”

Taehyung’s eyes never left Jungkook’s face.

Jungkook reached for a card—

“Take this.” Taehyung slipped the same card from the previous question into Jungkook’s palm.

Jungkook whipped his head to look at Taehyung in shock.

“I’ll answer.”

Taehyung leaned over and snatched Jungkook’s shot glass away, “You should stop drinking.”

Jungkook opened his mouth to protest, darting his eyes to the staff and Taehyung but,

“On the day of my birthday,” Taehyung began, lowering his eyelids as he observed the swirl of alcohol in the small glass. “I waited outside your company building.”

The camera shook a little. Jungkook’s hand on the table was clenched.

“I was foolish wasn’t I? I rushed to finish all my work and ended all my classes early just so I could catch the earliest train to your company building at 10 p.m sharp. I even asked your manager for your schedule.”

Taehyung curled his lips in a humourless smile, “I waited outside for 2 hours. All the staff were out by the first hour.”

“When it was almost midnight.. I texted your manager.” Taehyung lifted his gaze to meet Jungkook’s head on. “He said you got off earlier that morning and went home.”

“I waited there for hours, Jungkook, and it was my birthday.”

Jungkook’s pupils were shaking, his mouth half-way through speaking.

Taehyung tilted Jungkook’s shot glass over his mouth and looked away.

“Did you ever think that we would get married?” Taehyung’s expression furrowed as he read the question.

The camera paned to his side, to Jungkook who looked like he saw a ghost, pale and wide-eyed.

“Why are the questions like this?”

“Ask them.” Taehyung gestured to the staffs behind the scenes.

Jungkook nibbled on his lip for a hot minute, before sighing, “I used to.”

Taehyung raised a brow, “That's all?”

“I answered the question.”

Jungkook quipped, but the same intensity to his responses noticeably dwindled.

Taehyung, as well, didn’t push.

Jungkook’s hand trembled as he reached for the next question, no doubt shaken up.

“If you were given a chance to turn back time, what would you do?” He whispers, but the mic attached to his collar lets him be heard.

Taehyung drummed his fingers on the table and turned his head to look at the camera,

“September 1, 2020. I’d go back to that day and prevent you from slipping on the runway on live television.”

Jungkook’s cheeks lost the subtle drunken flush, replaced with a paleness devoid of warmth.

“You were inconsolable for weeks.” Taehyung mused, but there was no amusement in his eyes, only sombre remembrance of a difficult time. “It was the first time you ever made a mistake. The top super model of South Korea, impeccable and flawless, you took pride in that.”

Taehyung’s gaze softened, “If I could turn back time once, I’d go back to that day and save you the despair of making a mistake.”

Jungkook had not looked at the camera once since the last two questions. His eyes stayed plastered onto Taehyung, as if disbelieving, wondering .

“Do you still love me?”

Jungkook grabbed his shot glass and was ready to tilt it over his mouth,

but Taehyung was faster at intercepting.

Jungkook’s hands were shaking. Taehyung stole the glass and looked at Jungkook glumly, “No more drinking.”

Jungkook shook his head, bottom lip bitten.

With a sigh , Taehyung made eye contact with Jungkook as he drank the contents of the glass.

The camera shoots.

It happens like this.

The staff behind the scenes watch in bated breath. The tumultuous suspense, anticipation— the tension of a love lost and found.

Jungkook jumps out of his seat, yanking Taehyung off his seat—

smashing their lips together.

Someone gasps, the camera shakes.

Jungkook’s hands on Taehyung’s collar are gripped tight, almost white from the pressure, his eyes shut closed as he pried Taehyung’s lips open.

It’s messy, almost painful, the alcohol in Taehyung’s mouth slipping from the sides of his lips as Jungkook kissed him with fervour. But Taehyung’s eyes were wide open, looking at Jungkook.. content. Letting himself be kissed, the alcoholic drink in his lips shared between the tangle of their lips.

Jungkook’s hands unclenched, his eyes fluttering open with a fresh sheen of tears, pulling away and swallowing the stolen contents in his mouth. “..That was my drink.”

Taehyung looked at him, Jungkook looked back. A sort of intense exchange no one but themselves could decipher.

Both their lips were red and wet, Taehyung’s neat collar was unscrupulous and splayed open to reveal skin.

Taehyung broke contact first, looking at the camera with a gaze— a glare. “Cut that out.”

The cameraman gulped.
