Second lead, the side character of the story who watch the main lead steal their love. No matter how much they love the main character, no matter if they're much compatible or better for the lead, they still get rejected and suffer in silence. That's the purpose of their life story. Being a second option, who never gets chosen.
That's exactly what Huening Kai was created for. He was your typical sweet, caring, will fight everyone for you, the golden retriver, perfectionist Second male lead. He was created for loving the main character Choi Soorin, but according to plot she fell for the protagonist aka Kang Taehyun.
And Choi Beomgyu was the reader, who cursed the main character Soorin everyday for choosing Taehyun over Huening Kai.
"No why would this dumbass bitch Chose Taehyun? Is she fucking blind? Kai is literally way better than him!! Please Kai be mine, I would treat you way better than that dense girl. God it's so frustrating." Beomgyu groaned in frustration, throwing the book away somewhere on his comfy bed.
Beomgyu was a college student whose life was boring as hell and pretty grey and hollow, with not even a pinch of Romance in it. [a/n: Me fr except my life isn't grey and hollow] He barely had any friends and he liked to keep things to himself. Books and stories were his escape from life. And he had absolutely no complaints about it. He loves reading about Romance in books even though it makes him feel single sometimes.
And he started a new book called "ONLY YOU" this week and he was absolutely obsessed, but the ending left him with dis-satisfaction and a sour feeling in his heart. And it's because of the second male lead "Huening Kai". According to Beomgyu, he deserves much better. He should have been with Soorin instead of Taehyun. But sadly he can't do anything, because he's not the author .
"If only I was the author!" Beomgyu thought laying on his bed. The suddenly an idea came in his mind.
"Wait! What if I actually become the author and write my own story where Huening Kai also gets a happy ending? I'll make him end up with me!! Woah Beomgyu you're a genius!!" Beomgyu jumped out of his bed yelling in happiness and excitement. He was so smart.
"Let's start writing!!" Beomgyu took a notebook and started writing down his new version of "Only You", where Beomgyu was the one for Huening Kai and Soorin will suffer the heartbreak watching Kai fall for him.
"Serves her right, now she will know how Kai felt." Beomgyu thought with an evil smile on his face. He was about to make this story real good. He couldn't stop smiling and giggling while imagining Kai falling for him. He had fallen for a fictional character.
He was so engrossed in writing the story, he didn't realise it was time for his part-time job.
"Oh shoot, I forgot about time, I need to go now." Beomgyu got up from the chair and closed his notebook, rushing towards his bathroom to get ready for work.
The story of Kai started already, an alternate universe where he had a lover, where he was the main character.
Beomgyu came back from his part-time job and wanted to continue the story, but the piles of assignments were waiting for him to be completed.
"Ugh, fuck assignments, I hate them so much." Beomgyu groaned putting the notebook aside taking out his laptop to complete his pending assignments.
"Wait for me Kai, I'll be back for you!" Beomgyu mumbled to himself and smiled.
"I'll be waiting love." Huening Kai whispered from inside. Yes, Kai was aware he was a book character and not a real person. He was also shocked to know that he was not real, he was also unaware of it, until he became a character in Beomgyu's story. He realised he is starting to fall for his author and he has no sadness about his previous story now. Because now, he's the main character who loves Beomgyu.
[Timeskip to 9 days later]
Now, Beomgyu was almost done with the story. The ending was near, he was already writing the chapter 19. He was really happy in the time he wrote his own version of "Only you". But now that it was ending, he was feeling sad. He fell for the fictional character. It wasn't new for him as he always fell for fictional men, but he really fell for Huening Kai. To the extent that he kept wondering what if Huening Kai was actually real and what if they were actually dating. Sounds crazy but he wanted to be the fictional Beomgyu.
But sadly, that's not possible. Huening Kai is a fictional character and Beomgyu is real. And it hurts Beomgyu to think that.
"If only you knew Kai...ugh why aren't your real?" Beomgyu groaned as he was writing the last chapter of his story, where him and Kai were going on a date. Beomgyu wished Kai could hear him. But what he didn't knew that, Kai could actually hear him and he wanted to be Real as much Beomgyu wanted him to.
"Why am I fictional hyung? Why did I fall for you? It's not reasonable for a fictional character to fall for their author. Now I'll suffer from the unrequited love too. The curse of a character who fall for their reader or author." Kai sighed sadly, as he was walking with an empty-character-shell of fictional Beomgyu.
He was supposed to fall for the fictional Beomgyu, but he made the mistake of falling for the real Beomgyu. And once, Beomgyu finishes this book, he will not be able to see or hear his author anymore, as his story will come to an end. His concious self will come to an end.
Tears fell from Kai's face as he cherished the last moments of his story being written. He wished he was real so bad. If only he could see the Real Beomgyu. His lovely author who gave him a chance, a life to enjoy.
It was 11:10 PM now, and Beomgyu was writing the last sentence of his book.
"I love you Hyuka, you're the only one for me."
"I love you too hyung, Only you."
"I wish you were real Kai." "I wish I was real hyung." Both of them whispered the same thing as the clock struck 11:11.
"The end" Beomgyu closed his notebook, finally finishing the story. He checked the time to see it was pretty late. He needs to wake up early tomorrow.
"Get over it Gyu, Kai's fictional. Let's go to sleep now." Beomgyu mumbled sadly as he laid down on his bed, closing his eyes and dozing off to sleep.
He had a weird dream, where he saw Hueningkai has appeared in his room and is laying beside him.
Beomgyu woke up, his eyes still closed.
"What a silly Dream. I need help, why am I seeing Kai in my dreams now?" Beomgyu mumbled, his eyes still closed as he just woke up from sleep.
"What dream hyung?" Kai whispered from beside Beomgyu.
Beomgyu thought he was hearing things, but he was proved wrong as he opened his eyes.
There was a whole ass body of a Guy laying beside him, looking at him lovingly. Wait, he knows this person. It looks like Kai in his dream. Wow, he's such a simp that he even made up a figure of Kai in his brain and now he's seeing him infront of him. How delusional.
"Beomgyu you need more sleep." He was about to close his eyes again, but Kai suddenly lifted his hands and caressed his cheeks, making Beomgyu flinch in surprise.
"Don't sleep hyung. I'm here, just like you wished." Kai said smiling.
"W-what? H-how? Aren't you s-supposed to be fictional?" Beomgyu was malfunctioning. How can he be real? How is Kai real?
"I was hyung, but our wish made me Real. Now I'm not your fictional love anymore. I'm real, very real hyung." Kai whispered as he placed a kiss on Beomgyu's cheek.
Beomgyu blushed red, as he looked at Kai in Disbelief. His fictional love is real?
"So my fictional love is true?"
"Yes Hyung, I'm real and now I'm the main lead of your story. "
