Chapter Text
Izuku dropped his All Might figure as the doctor's words and his mother's gasps slowly became muffled. He doesn't have a quirk? How? He had wished for months to have a good quirk. He had done everything to figure out what type of quirk he would get.
The ride home was a blur and Izuku had spent a good half hour trying to force a quirk to come out of his body. He settled on rewatching his favorite All Might video as his mother sobbed and hugged him while apologizing. Why was she apologizing? She didn't make him quirkless. That night he didn't get much sleep, but he still had school in the morning.
When the news got loose in his class, his peers started acting strangely towards him. They started treating him like he was either made of glass or he was a monster. Kacchan especially. It only took about three days before Kacchan started calling Izuku names, the one that stuck being Deku, and started pushing Izuku around, giving him small scratches. Izuku ddint understand why his best friend was acting like this, but he must've done something really bad to make Kacchan act like this.
It's been a decade. Izuku has given up on the dream of being a hero, of thinking he was just getting in the way of Katsuki, of thinking he could be anything. The torment he has constantly been put through was finally halted as the bell for the day rang, releasing all hell on the world until the next day. Izuku trudged home, a burn on his back throbbing with pain. At least this wasn't close to any exposed skin that could be easily seen by his mother. Pft, Izuku scoffed in his head, like she would give half a shit.
Izuku's mom had taken to drinking and being passed out for at least twelve hours a day after his father had left the picture. Izuku had two jobs to keep up with rent, groceries, school supplies that miraculously keep getting destroyed, and his mother's alcoholism.
When Izuku got up to his apartment, he could've sworn he heard muffled talking, but he brushed it off as he unlocked the door, and walked into his apartment to a sight.
His mom was tied to a chair, mouth gaged with a cloth, and some guy with white hair pointing a gun at her- wait. That's not just some guy. Hisashi..?
Izuku's mom started struggling as soon as she saw her son, which alerted Hisashi, who looked over his shoulder. His eyes lit up with an evil glare as he spun around to face Izuku. With the gun pointed directly at his face. He couldn't hear what Hisashi was saying from the blood rushing through his ears, and he couldn't see that well either, his vision blurry and red.
Izuku thinks he said something to his absent father, but he's not too sure himself. Soon the blurry vision and muffled hearing came to a stop as he slowly calmed down, not feeling the presence of his father anymore.
Izuku was startled to find he was no longe run his apartment, but he was in... Actually where the fresh hell was he? He turned in all different directions but the space he was in looked virtually the same. Except there was a gradient of blue and pink square going up and then stopping abruptly.
Should he say something?
"Um.. Hello?"
With that word, a blur of glitches appeared in front of him. He thought it would fizzle out into a coherent shape, but the thing started talking.
“Welcome. This is your first time here, so I will give you instructions on how to properly succeed in this.”
Yeah, not weird at all. Izuku tried asking a question, “Uh, what? What do you mean by succ-”
“One: Make sure you don't leave the area before you have completed your tasks.”
Ok, rude… Izuku huffed in his head.
“Two: You are to not call for outside help, only use what you are provided.”
The hell does that mean? Wait.. I can't call for help?
“Three: Once you have successfully finished, you may come back here at any time.”
“Um, ok?” Izuku said wearily, still trying to see a form in the glitches.
“...”
“Ok? Hello? I understand?”
“It seems you don't understand, would you like me to repeat the instructions?-”
“No?!” Izuku said, getting agitated at the thing before it started talking again.
“Press one for yes, press two for no, press three for style change, press four for save slots.”
“The hell?” Izuku wondered aloud. “Press what??” Izuku started frantically looking around for buttons until he caught sight of his arms only to not see his regular school jacket on, and in fact, his entire outfit was changed.
Instead of his uniform, he was wearing a shirt with a button-up over it, with his shoulders showing. The plastic-like fabric was fitted properly, but it still felt weird since he didn't normally dress like this. Looking lower, he had on a smooth black belt with a silver buckle, looking brand new and expensive. His pants were monstrosities. They were blue jeans, but were ripped so badly they were barely hanging on. They were cuffed at the end. The socks he had on were mismatched black and white socks, and he had on high-top Converse instead of his normal red shoes.
After observing his clothes, he saw that there were buttons on his arms.
…What the fuck.
The glitches started saying the numbers again, but Izuku heard ‘style change’ and immediately found the number three button, and hesitantly pressed it. He saw the room glitch out in squares, then a mirror and a selection board glitched in front of him the same way the other room had left.
In the mirror, Izuku wanted to look at his outfit in full, but then he saw his face. A strange device was strapped to his face, it looked high-tech, the outside displaying lines of information Izuku couldn't decipher. Looking past that, he could see his eyes were a lighter shade of green, and his irises were on/off switches.
“What. The. Hell.”
