Never Forget Me, Like I'm Your Favorite Song

Summary:

"'Alright,” Alluka started as they sat down. “Business talk, the award show this weekend, WTF Do I Know and Night Crawling with Ikalgo is the plan. You’re set to be number four in the performance order. The lineup before you is Kurapika, Meruem, and… Gon.”

“Great, of course, they put us back to back I shouldn’t even be surprised.” He crossed his arms leaning back into the cushioned seat.

If he was gonna go after his ex he was gonna make sure the crowd went wild for him."'

Chapter 1: Plastic Hearts

Chapter Text

“Thank you for tuning into HunterFX Radio! I’m Taylor Reynolds here with the one and only, a pop star from our childhood growing up with us now, Killua Zoldyck!”

Crew members clapped as Killua chuckled at his introduction. “Nice to be back,” He nodded towards Taylor and shot a glance at his sister who was gleaming with a thumbs up. He looked back at the mic in front of him, headphones smooshing down his hair uncomfortably. He leaned back into the spinning chair tilting his head to the side with a slight smirk as he said, “So, we here to talk about my newest album coming out?”

The radio host raised his brows as he nodded his head, “You would be correct but before that let’s get into the years that got you to where you are now!” He had an incredibly enthusiastic way of pronouncing every single syllable, it was grinding Killua’s gears.

Taylor tapped his pen to his notepad and quickly read over some notes before looking back at the celebrity in front of him. “So,” He began, “As we know you’ve been pretty popular even from a young age. Everyone remembers your lead role as a pop star with a hidden identity. It was your gateway to fame, how different was it transitioning from acting to singing?”

The question everyone asks as the past was the only thing they wanted to hold on to.

“Well, I did actually sing on that show– as I played a pop star.” Alluka held back a laugh and a choking sound came out of her from his sarcastic remark. “So it really wasn’t a big transition for me. The biggest transition was actually from my fans who still saw me as that fictional singer instead of the actual one producing albums for them. It took a second for them to separate the two. I am grateful for that though, as the show did a huge boost for my career beyond it.”

“And I’m sure on the show it was a little easier with your family being a part of the cast right?” He asked.

Killua sucked in a quick and hidden breath. “It was definitely an experience!” He quipped trying to keep the dark turn light-hearted.

Taylor threw his head back in a fit of laughter. “Family as co-workers would definitely have its cons along with the pros!” Sometimes the cons outweighed the pros…

Killua glanced at his pink-covered support system and melted his anxieties with a simple smile.

“Anyways, moving on from that,” Thank goodness, “You’ve produced so many albums, written numerous amounts of songs, please tell us, what’s the inspiration behind it all?” Taylor asked and Killua leaned forward into his mic thinking over his answer.

“My songs are all inspired by my personal experiences, and they’re not always good ones. A lot of them are actually about me taking back my right to something. For example one of my earlier albums Can’t be Tamed has a song called Robot. I talked about the issue of separating my character and myself, I felt like the media was really trying to control me and force me back into that. I decided to refute it with a song and say that I’m Killua Zoldyck, not a fictional character.”

Really the song was about his trauma with his family. But that would cause an incredible mess that as much as he wanted to see his family suffer, would pull him and Alluka down with them.

“I love that! And it still applies now!” Taylor tapped his pen and looked up at Killua with a piercing stare. “I can tell we're about to get a breakup album are we not?” He cocked his brow.

Oh

Killua half expected this. So his response was already planned.

“Well, everyone faces a breakup at some point in their life and I think this album will resonate with you a lot. Give a listen to my single WTF Do I Know that's gonna be in the album!” He could practically feel Allukas eyes scanning every inch of his body for a sign.

“But you’ve based it on your recent break up with another superstar Gon Freecs right?”

There it was, the sudden jolt in his leg that gave Alluka her sign that he was only a ticking bomb about to explode. She stood up and made her way over to the producer to shut down a conversation that was about to get way too personal.

Before she could get in a word he kept going, “He’s also coming out with another album soon, were only left to assume it’ll also be about the public breakup that tore fans apart! You two were together for so long and a role model for many relationships! How could something so beautiful become so messy?”

Killua ground his teeth and he felt his eye slightly twitch at the stress he was under. His anger boiled and he knew he didn’t have much left before he would make a scene. Deep breath deep breath.

“Well,” He tried collecting himself, “As we know breakups are personal and so I won’t be discussing the details of it. How about we talk more about the album itself and the work that was put into it?”

He glanced at Alluka whose overwhelmingly pink closet became flooded with the red on her face. She scrambled to grab a headset with a working mic as he assumed the producer was going to do nothing himself.

“The work behind it was from an emotional rollercoaster of a breakup! We know you haven’t been handling it too well from the paparazzi leaks of you with multiple different, as the media calls it, sneaky links! Were any of your experiences with them included in the album?”

“That’s incredibly perso-”

“And have you talked to Gon since the breakup? I’m sure he’s seen all the photos too, is he okay with-”

“And that concludes the interview! Times up now let’s listen to the teaser for the album WTF Do I Know and catch Killua performing in the HMA’s!” Alluka shut their mics off and played his song for the station to hear.

The short sibling/manager stomped over toward Killua and stood him up giving him a quick pat on the shoulders. “Let's go,” she lead and he followed.

The crew was left confused at their sudden exit. They mumbled amongst themselves until silence hit the office.

“One more thing,” Killua stomped back inside with a finger raised and pointed right at his invasive interviewer. “You’re lucky my sister’s here or I would’ve ripped you apart on the air you little shit.”

Taylor gave him a disgusted look and scoffed, “Just trying to give the media what it wants.”

“Oh, I’ll give you-”

Alluka tugged at his sleeve and pulled him out of the room before he couldn’t say another word. He didn’t even try to rip his wrist away from her iron grip that slightly loosened the closer they got to the car. Neither decided to further discuss the terrible interview as the ice-cold air blocked their thoughts from pursuing any other opinions on it.

For years he’s had to dodge invasive questions. About his family, sexuality, and the reason behind his sudden switch from kids-friendly to rated R performances. All of these were easy to navigate, however, nothing has been as hard to dodge as his recent breakup.

Gon had been a touchy subject, even though they’d been broken up for a good five months now. The media didn’t get a hold of it till just a couple of weeks ago and suddenly his scars were reopening feeling fresh heartbreak. He tried his best to hide it and did well for awhile, but they soon figured out the two weren’t together. He couldn’t put himself back in that again, he couldn’t handle giving his all and still being second place in someone's heart. Someone who was so bright it ended up blinding him.

“Are you alright brother?” Alluka snapped him back and he looked over at his worried sister.

Killua nodded and offered a small smile to comfort her, but it wasn’t enough. He sighed, “It’s just hard to constantly hear about it. I understand I used it in my album sure, but some interviews just go too far. Why can’t they just focus on promoting the damn music?” He huffed.

“That is how they promote it sadly. All they care about is drama cause drama sparks interest. I canceled other interviews though I’m done with them too. You’re popular enough you don’t need them anyways.” She shrugged.

Alluka was right, there’s no point in pointless interviews. People will care to listen with or without them. He still didn’t understand how he got so lucky to have his sister as his manager. He watched her look back down at her phone and her fingers began to furiously type away.

He heard her giggle like a teenage girl and he leaned in, curious to see what got her so giddy. “What are you laughing at?”

She quickly turned her phone away, “Nothing,” she said then she looked out the window. It was because her poker face was terrible , as was Killua’s and he knew that.

Obviously it’s something. God you’re so bubbly, and not your normal kind of bubbly. Who are you talking to?” He tried snatching her phone from her but she was quick to put it away.

“Can’t a girl have her privacy?” She glared and he decided to back off, raising his hands in defense.

Their chauffeur dropped them off at their favorite coffee shop that had a private section that soothed Killua’s little introverted self every time. His iced mocha with caramel despite it being a chilly fall evening would rid the anxieties that came from the press.

“Alright,” Alluka started as they sat down. “Business talk, the award show this weekend, WTF Do I Know and Night Crawling with Ikalgo is the plan. You’re set to be number four in the performance order. The lineup before you is Kurapika, Meruem, and… Gon.”

Great, of course, they put us back to back I shouldn’t even be surprised.” He crossed his arms leaning back into the cushioned seat.

Alluka bit her lips looking at the details of the music awards. “Well for dress rehearsal there’s enough time in between to escape without Gon even seeing you? Let’s see…” She scanned some more while Killua sipped at his drink. “He’s performing Montero and Dolla Sign Slime with Retz.”

“Retz?” He questioned.

“Bisky manages her! She’s my managing idol!” Alluka practically swooned. “You remember Retz right? We used to go on a couple of dates but didn’t really feel a spark.”

“Huh,” No bells were really ringing on that one.

Killua grabbed the paper and looked over the schedule. Kurapika, his good friend, was set to sing No Time to Die and something from his latest album Happier than ever. Meruem was set to sing Unholy as his newest hit far different from his past music came out. And Gon of course was gonna give a performance that was for sure.

Which meant Killua really had to step up his game.

If he was gonna go after his ex he was gonna make sure the crowd went wild for him.
