Chapter Text
“C’mon Subz, this way!” Vitalasy calls. The fox-eared boy gestured to his best friend. The pair ran over the hill, chasing the jester-costumed man who was running away.
“Suspicious looking tunnel,” Subz remarked, his cat-ears flicking nervously. Clown was running towards a tunnel through a hill. They kept running anyways.
Clown turned, breaking a rock with his pickaxe. Everything slowed down. Vitalasy caught a glimpse of red and black. He skidded to a stop and dove back. But Subz had not seen the cart when he did. He finally saw it, but it was too late. The cart filled to the brim with TNT exploded. Vitalasy was thrown back, landing hard on his back. But he was alive. And-
“SUBZ!” Vitalasy shouted. “SUBZ WHERE ARE YOU? SUB- no-“ He ran over to where a body lay, items scattered around. He prayed that it was Clown, that it wasn’t his friend, his Subz- but he knew, he just knew who it was, even before he got there. Vitalasy crouched down beside Subz’s body.
“No..” Vitalasy murmured. “No, Subz, I’m so sorry..” He gripped the boy’s shoulders, shaking him. “Subz-“ But his friend, his best friend’s eyes, one purple and one green, were blank, staring at nothing. As Vitalasy watched, the body faded away, back to Subz’s spawn point. Vitalasy quickly gathered the scattered items and ran off toward Subz’s base.
A couple minutes later, Vitalasy burst through the door. Subz was sitting on the bed, looking recovered. Vitalasy took a deep breath.
“Subz I’m so sorry for dragging you into this, I should’ve fought him by myself. It’s my fault you died. I shouldn’t have dragged you into my battles, I’m so sorry. I’ll give it you a heart, and I’ll never ask you to fight with me again. Please forgive me?” Vitalasy asked, holding out the shulker with Subz’s items in one hand, and a heart from himself in the other. He looked up.
Subz was looking at him affectionately. “Vi- Vi you have nothing to apologize for. I would’ve followed you into battle regardless. I-“ He was cut off as Vitalasy threw his arms around him. The two best friends, constantly in deadly situations, shared one night of peace before another day of war.
