Work Text:
"Jake."
"Yeah, Ames?"
Amy took in the scene again. Every chair, cushion, pot, pan and blanket was strewn across their living room in a state of slow-motion explosion. A wardrobe door balanced on a box as a precarious seesaw. There was a mixing bowl full of shaving foam, for some reason. In the middle of it all Mac sat in a washing-up tub, sucking enthusiastically on his fist.
"What are you doing?"
Jake beamed at her. "Montessori?" he tried.
Amy put her hands on her hips. "Jake. This is not Montessori." Amy knew this for a fact. She had read seven books, attended two courses, and had a full binder of ideas.
"Sure it is! Obstacle courses promote problem solving and independence. And!" Jake raised a determined finger. "They're the perfect starting point for teaching heisting skills."
"Jake."
"The power to learn comes from within, Amy!"
Amy ran a critical eye over the carnage that had been a functioning apartment, tracing the route of the obstacle course. She bent and picked up the draining rack and turned it over in her hands.
"Fine. But we can do better than this."
Next Hallowe’en, Captain Holt wouldn’t know what had hit him.
