Chapter 1: A Pact with the Devil

Chapter Text

It was early morning, the sun just barely having risen over the horizon, as he sat in his office–awaiting their arrival. He was patient, but there was a sense of trepidation in his demeanor. His brow was furrowed, tapping his fingers on his desk–this was completely foreign territory to him. He decided that he would go through with it and once his mind was made up, then it was as good as done.

Secondo, his unholy eminence Papa Emeritus II, was the middle of Papa Nihil's children of the Emeritus family. An old and well established line that had reigned over the Satanic church for centuries in one way or another. There were many father's, father's, father's before him in the line of succession. Even though Secondo's time as reigning Papa had passed, his little brother Terzo now holding the title, he felt it was still his responsibility to help maintain his family's legacy.

Primo would have been the first logical choice. He was the eldest son,  but his mind was settling into retirement mode and so convincing him to become a father now would be very unlikely. Terzo was the youngest and would have also been a good choice but his recent amorous connection to Bishop Copia had made a biological heir not possible. Secondo was all that was left and much to Papa Nihil and Sister Imperator's surprise, when they approached him on the subject, he was very agreeable.

He was affectionately known by those within and outside the church as a "dank ass freak". The tales of his debauchery, sex dungeon antics, and proclivity for “no strings attached” sexual partnership were no secret. He was probably the least personality wise one would think would be up for such a task. He was, despite it all, prepared to do what needed to be done, and knew just the sister in mind to help.

He had seen her for the first time just a few weeks earlier at Terzo's ascension soiree. The whole of the Abbey was present in the Great Hall, including the children. Secondo had been seated at the head table minding his own, pouring glass after glass of wine down his throat when a small child, one of Father Giovanni's brood, came running up to the table crashing down in front of it. Secondo stood up to see if the child was ok, but was preceded by a sister coming quickly to comfort and care for the child instead.

"Oh Marcello, you mustn't run inside sweetheart." The sister said as she scooped up the small boy in her arms. She straightened herself out, her eyes meeting with Secondo’s. "Papa, I apologize for the intrusion, Marcello is a spirited one. I shall see to it that it doesn't happen again." she smiled, but was obviously mortified.

"It's nothing sister, the boy should be enjoying himself–it is a party." Secondo replied, smiling back at her, finding himself a bit more relaxed under the influence of wine.

"Of course." Sister Loren nodded, turning her attention to the boy, kissing his forehead at the small bruise that had appeared there. Loren was a recent transfer from the American ministry in California, brought over with a few others and ghouls when some new help was needed with the upcoming preparations of Terzo's ascension and to, what Nihil referred to as, replenish the stock. She was one of the Abbey's nannies, watching over the members of the clergy and fellow sibling's children alike. It was fitting, Secondo had thought that she was so wonderful with children, but also very intelligent and kind. Her whole nature was nurturing, Secondo figured that she was perfect for a Prime Mover.

She wasn't his typical type. He usually went for the very conventionally attractive, overtly sexual variety. Sisters that made their intentions clear, but Loren wasn't like that at all. She didn't run in the same circles as the others he'd been with and honestly he wasn't even sure she was interested in carnal pleasures or romanticism, or even love at all. Which would have suited him just fine as Secondo wasn't interested in falling in love.

He never wanted to have such a long standing commitment. He figured that didn't matter, he didn't have to love his Prime Mover. After all, Lucifer knows his father didn't or at least his treatment of Primo's mother would have suggested otherwise. Despite that, Secondo would treat her with the respect earned from such a position. It would be a lot to ask of her, to bear the future of the church, and should she turn him down he would have to accept it and move on.

He chose the morning because then the rest of the day could be made into whatever needed to follow. Should she accept there were things that needed to be discussed and of course their task set in motion. Should she decline, well then he would have to rethink several things. Secondo’s thoughts, interrupted by a knocking at the door. He perked up at the sound and called for his company to come inside.

"Come in" he called. The door opened as Sister Imperator let herself, Papa Nihil, Cardinal Marimonti, and Sister Loren inside the office.

“Son.” Nihil nodded, Secondo returning the gesture.

“Papa, how are you this morning?” Sister Imperator asked. Secondo wasn't fond of the Sister. Her niceties and her faux politeness was something he could sniff out like a bloodhound. He knew if she had her way her own son, who just happened to be Terzo’s lover, would be the one to don the miter but since he was not an Emeritus that was a lost cause.

“I am well thank you Sister.” Secondo said, trying to look past her to Loren who was sheepishly hidden behind Cardinal Marimonti and Nihil. The Cardinal turned noticing Loren’s apprehension and coaxed her out from behind him, leading her between him and Sister Imperator. The Sister noticed, bringing her hand to Sister Loren’s shoulder, making her stiffen.

“Very good Papa, may I have the pleasure of formally introducing you to Sister Loren, formerly of the California ministry. Secondo stood up from his chair to greet her, taking her hand in his and kissing the top. A test in an attempt to tenderly gesture to her his intentions. Sister Loren smiled, but remained quiet.

Even though it had yet to be said, Loren knew deep down why she was there. The rumors of Secondo taking on a Prime Mover had circulated faster than a tabloid headline amongst the siblings and clergy. She was more than nervous, anticipating hearing him say the words.

Loren considered herself to be more plain. She had medium length chestnut brown hair, light green eyes, and was a bit curvier than she would have liked. Her own self image made it even more of a shock when she was approached by Sister Imperator and Cardinal Marimonti, then asked to accompany them to Secondo’s office the following day. The previous night she had considerable trouble sleeping, she was sure her dark circles made that painfully obvious. She tried her best when she stumbled out of bed that morning to look presentable, but she was sure somehow she’d still look exhausted.

Loren was somewhat terrified of Secondo. From what she had seen in her short time at the Abbey, he was much more unapproachable and guarded than the rest of the Emeritus family. His attitude, more stoic and dark. She had actively tried to avoid interaction with him, especially since Terzo’s party had made her look inept at her position. All that being said, what she was doing in his office now she couldn't conceive an explanation for.

"Sister, Cardinal, Papa–I wish to speak with the sister alone.” Secondo stated plainly.

"Papa.." Sister Imperator began, attempting to push back. She was always trying to have her fingers in every proverbial pie within the Abbey and never knew when to stay out of the affairs of others.

"Seestor, I think he can handle things on his own." Nihil said, Cardinal Marimonti nodding in agreement. The three of them left the office, leaving Secondo and Sister Loren alone in the room. The two of them stood on either side of Secondo's desk, Loren frozen, her eyes to the floor as she ran her fingers across the edge of her veil. Secondo waited until he could hear the space outside his office become quiet again.

"Sister please sit." Secondo said, Loren did as she was told. When she glanced up she caught sight of Secondo's piercing and mismatched eyes, a trait only granted by Lucifer himself to the most worthy of the church. She felt like they could see right through her to her soul. The two sat in silence for a moment. Both unsure of how to begin. Loren was honestly afraid to speak at all, but swallowed back her apprehension, her small voice breaking the soundless space between them.

"Papa, I was told that you wished to see me today?" Loren asked. She expected there to be a bit of pleasantries before Secondo got down to brass tacks, but was surprised when he opened up immediately.

“Yes. As I am sure you have heard, because no one here knows how to keep their mouths closed–I am to find a Prime Mover.” Secondo stated, not holding back or even pretending there was anything more on his mind.

“I am aware and you'd be surprised how slow rumors travel here compared to the American Abbey." Loren laughed nervously, her attention turning back to the hem of her veil, her eyes away from his. Secondo could tell she was anxious. She looked like a doe in the forest, sure of the hunter’s impending presence.

"I'm sure that's true… Sister Loren, I would like to ask you… What I mean to say is you are wonderful with the children. Have you ever wanted any of your own–wanted to be a mother yourself?  Secondo asked, easing slowly into the meat of the conversation.

"Always." Loren paled. Her voice, so light and full of melancholy. Unexpected and presenting more questions Secondo felt needed to be addressed, since he wasn’t quite sure what to make of her response.

"Sister?"

"Sorry Papa, I…I have always wanted them. Just never found the right person. It's one of those things that…well I didn't want them to just be with anyone." Loren replied, blushing at realizing again what she was there for, "I had someone, um I guess…before in the states. We were together a while, I thought maybe we would–but obviously nothing came of it."

"Ah I see." Secondo nodded, "Well I think it would be in both of our best interest to tell you sister that I have taken a lot of things into consideration and I have chosen you to be my Prime Mover." Secondo admitted.

"I assumed that was the case. I appreciate the honor Papa–I truly do.” Loren started. Secondo felt like she was gearing up to reject him.

“If this is something you do not agree with sister, I will…” Secondo started, feeling more than a bit disappointed.

“No…I mean not no just, well are you sure–"

“Sure?”

“I mean no disrespect, I just would have figured that you would want someone that was more to you know…to your particular tastes. I'm not exactly the type of sister I see hanging from your arm…at least not since I have been at the Abbey.” Loren reasoned, hoping her candor wasn't too much.

“Ah…well… Make no mistake sister, I am very sure. I have put a lot of thought into this and I think that you will be just fine.” Secondo explained. It was hard for Loren to hear. He was approaching this from a purely business-like standpoint. No feeling or care behind it. She was hoping maybe she’d missed an affection he had developing towards her–something to nourish and have bloomed into something more but no, Secondo wasn’t like that and she should have known better.

Secondo rounded his desk and stood beside Loren as he made his case for their union. All Loren could think as Secondo continued to talk was how this may be her last chance. Things hadn’t worked out in the states. After all that had happened, she felt like she’d never truly love anyone again. She decided that she would do it, if it had to be with someone she didn’t love, having a child with a Papa of the church would afford her the ability to give them everything she never had.

“Papa, I will do it if that is what you wish.” Loren said, once again dropping her gaze. She felt his firm gloved hand on her jaw urging her, gently, to look at him.

“I know this isn’t exactly how you envisioned things sister, but you don’t have to love me. We aren’t anything more–you’ll get something you want, I’ll get something I want. You all you have to do is fuck me.” Secondo purred, shamelessly into Loren’s ear. Loren pulled back a bit, looking wide-eyed at him–her cheeks tinged pink and shocked at the words that had left his mouth.

“Oh Papa, I..” Loren started, surprisingly flustered by Secondo’s forwardness. He could tell her heart was racing from the rhythm of her breathing hastening. A starting point he supposed–at least he could tell she was affected by the idea and his words.

“Listen, no one ever accused me of saint-like behavior sister, I am nothing if not temptation. We will do this together and I will have you with child in no time. His words sending a flush of heat throughout her body. “There is no need to be shy, we will breed that out of you.” Secondo said, gripping Loren’s hips and pulling her close to him, kissing her hard.

“...hm…” she murmured, her sounds muffled against his mouth as he slipped his tongue between her lips. Their tongues meeting for the first time. He’d wondered what her response would be and to his content she didn’t pull away but rather melted into his arms.

“Let us begin shall we my child, my devoted sister…” Secondo growled, feeling himself hard against his pants. It took almost nothing, the sweet smell of Loren’s hair and the softness of her lips--all he needed. Secondo wasted no time, this moment to consummate their agreement was as good as any. He turned her to face the desk—bending her forward, throwing her dress up over her waist, and tearing her panties off in an almost effortless swoop.

“Oh…Wait!” Loren cried. Secondo was stupefied at her exclamation and stopped instantly. Loren slowly pulled back down her dress, her body visibly shaking and her face covered in tears. She picked up the pieces of her torn undergarments from the floor and tried to calm herself.

“Loren, I…I am sorry I didn't mean to–” Secondo panicked internally, his face still as collected as ever on the outside.

“No, It’s not you. I just want to—I'm not used to being, well I'm not used to being handled in that way.” she explained, “I’m not angry, I'm just a bit shaken is all.” Secondo was at a loss for words. His methods may work for his typical lover, but the sudden and aggressiveness from him with Loren had been too much. She was not like the others, he’d have to dial it back a bit, at least for the time being. Secondo racked his brain trying to think of his next moves, when the idea struck him.

“Why don’t I make it up to you, take it a bit slower. Would you accompany me to the opera this evening? It would be my pleasure to bring you as my official Prime Mover. You can spend some more time getting used to the idea and well afterwards… We can resume a bit more relaxed, yes?” he suggested, hoping the more date-like approach would lessen her nerves.

“Ok Papa, I would like that very much.” Loren said, a gentle smile returning to her face. Secondo smiled back at her, relieved that his idea had worked and that he hadn’t just completely ruined things.

“Please Loren, let’s drop the formalities, you are my Prime Mover–call me Secondo.” he said, Loren nodding in acknowledgement. It was settled, things were already moving quickly and Secondo wanted to waste no time. She would succumb to him, tonight, as his lover. All of Hell would be empty and the Devil would be right here.
