Work Text:
It’s date night.
Your name is JUNE EGBERT and you are currently panicking. It’s been ages since the three of you had a proper date, and this will be the most important date of your life. The two trolls that are nearest and dearest to your heart have been patiently waiting downstairs for about 10 minutes, while you’ve been fumbling about like a cluckbeast with its head cut off. Cluckbeast? Chicken? Who cares at this point.
The outfit that you really wanted to wear (a black blouse paired with a blue slitted skirt) happened to be in the wash, leaving you scrambling to put together something decent.
Someone knocks at your door. (Yes, all of you have your own bedrooms. Just because you’re in love doesn’t mean you don’t like privacy.) You tense and force out a “Who is it?” that sounds more like a dying rat than a functional person.
“Rez. You sound like you’re getting your ass kicked in there.”
“I’m alright! Just getting ready.”
“Does ‘getting ready’ usually take this long?”
“Uh, yup! Human women always take ages to get ready. Just watch one of Karkat’s movies!” You are about to either scream, dissolve into the air and fly out the window, or both.
“Can I come in then? I’m dying to smell the outfit you’ve taken so long to prepare!”
You look down at your bright orange Camp Half-Blood t-shirt and purple jeans. When the fuck did you get purple jeans? “Um, sure?”
She opens the door before you can take it back.
You look at her, and manage to keep your composure for a few seconds before you start sobbing.
Terezi, thank gog for her, because she rushes over and hugs you as tight as she can. “You’re okay. I’m here. It’s okay.” You both lower to the floor as she continues a string of reassurances. You lean into her, crying for a few minutes before you calm down enough to talk.
“I wanted this night to be perfect for us, Terezi. But the outfit i wanted was dirty, and I don’t know what to do with my hair, and more and more time keeps passing and I just keep panicking more and more-”
“June.” She pulls you closer. Your face feels fuzzy from the crying. “June I love you so fucking much. You’re always going to be perfect to me, no matter what.”
She pauses to take a deep breath. “And for what it’s worth, the grapey orange thing you have going on smells pretty delicious!”
You chuckle a little. “I just... really wanted tonight to go well. It’s important to me.”
“Oh shit, are you guys okay?”
You look up from the floor to see Vriska in the doorway.
Rez waves her over. “June was freaking out a bit.”
“I got stressed about the date,” you say, now a bit embarrassed.
Vriska comes and sits down, crossing her legs. “What’s so important about this date, Junebug? We see each other every day.”
Your face flushes, and she grins. Shit, is she onto you? “It’s just because we haven’t had a real date in so long, and, well...” You trail off.
Terezi, the traitor that she is, lights up with a shit-eating grin of her own. “Oh, of course, there’s definitely nothing special you’re planning for tonight.”
You pout and sit up. “I can’t believe this.”
Vriska reaches onto the bed and grabs a tiny box. It’s coated in a deep blue velvet and has a hinge in the back. Fuck, she found it. “What’s in this box, huh? Did you get us a present?”
You snatch it out of her hands just before she opens it. “Can we just go to the restaurant before they give our table to someone else?”
Your name is VRISKA SERKET, and you’re currently eating at a human restaurant with your partners. June is clearly up to something, judging by her breakdown earlier and her nervousness recently. But you’re also enjoying the peace and don’t want to make a fuss.
The ‘steak’ is good, even though it isn’t as rare as you’d prefer. (Humans are so touchy about that.) And it’s nice to listen to June and Terezi bicker. In your opinion, they’ve got some pretty solid pitch vibes going on.
Gog, you’ve been spending too much time with Karkat.
June fiddles with the tassels on her shirt. “Okay, uh, Vriska. Close your eyes. Terezi, hold your nose for a sec? I guess?”
You laugh a bit. “I knew you were planning something.” But you close your eyes anyway.
“Okay, open.”
June is on one knee, holding up the box you saw earlier. You gasp, and clutch Rezi’s arm.
“Vriska Serket, Terezi Pyrope. You two have been part of life for years now. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t skeptical when I first met you, considering the circumstances, but you surprised me. You keep surprising me, and every day I look forward to it. So, even though it’s a silly tradition,”
She opens the box. Inside are two rings topped with sapphires.
“Terezi, Vriska, will you human-marry me?”
You smile and pick her up as Rezi cackles happily. “I can’t believe it! No wonder you were so worked up earlier!”
Terezi leans over and kisses June, then you. “I would love to human-marry you, Juney,” she says.
You give June a kiss of your own. “Oh my gog, Junebug, yes.”
She looks like she’s about to cry from happiness. “I know it doesn’t mean as much to trolls, but...”
You set her down. “It’s important to me if it’s important to you. Do you even know who you’re talking to?”
“I can’t believe we’re going to be human-married, Vriska! Aren’t we lucky?”
June starts giggling. It’s adorable. “You guys can just say ‘married’, you know.”
You collapse back into your chair. “We’ll see.”
The smiles on your fiancées faces could outshine the Green Fucking Sun itself, and you have no doubt your own smile is the same.
Your name is TEREZI PYROPE, and you are cuddling with Vriska on the couch.
June went to bed a couple hours ago, exhausted from the emotional rollercoaster that had been her day.
“We’ve gone soft, Rezi.”
“You don’t seem all that upset about it.” You pull her closer to you.
“It’s just weird. I always sorta knew that you would be in my life for a while, but I would have never guessed we’d be in a serious relationship with a dorky alien. And now we’re getting married? This isn’t even close to the future I imagined, but I’m the happiest I’ve ever been.”
“Me too, I think. Life’s weird like that.”
You can practically taste her smile. It’s a genuine one, too. And then she turns towards you, and you suddenly can taste it, in her kiss. Just as delicious as last time, and every time before that.
