Retrouvaille
The feeling of overwhelming joy when you are finally able to reunite with a long lost loved one; the way your heart sings when you finally have your arms wrapped around the person that you consider to be your whole world; the all consuming happiness you find yourself blessed with when you are back to being one with the other half of your heart.
Retrouvaille.
It was an emotion that Taehyung had been expecting to feel - letting it settle deep within his bones - when he was finally in the same city, in the same campus, in the same building, breathing in the same breath of air with his dear beloved high school sweetheart.
Jeon Jeongguk, the man that had stolen his heart that was all too willing to be taken, the boy whose eyes held Taehyung’s entire universe, his precious little one, whom he had been in an almost 2 year long distance relationship with.
Taehyung could already envision their reunion, his large hands already itching to be splayed across the younger’s slim waist like a belt. Knowing Jeongguk and his daily routine, Taehyung didn’t think it would be all that difficult to locate the boy and surprise him, which further elevated the level of his excitement.
Apparently, he was wrong.
Very, very wrong, indeed.
Don’t get him wrong. Of course, Taehyung was ecstatic to see the boy he held dear to his heart after being physically separated for such an awfully long time. Not being able to hold Jeongguk in his arms and listen to the younger’s lilting laughter - the one that had his heart soaring - without the disturbance of the poor internet connection he had to endure in the quiet and peaceful rural parts of Daegu while his boyfriend was all the way in the bustling and never-resting city of Seoul, it almost drove him insane and he was starting to face what his family called the ‘Jeonggukie withdrawal symptoms”.
If Taehyung really didn’t think it would be worth it, he wouldn’t be here, standing in the middle of Gangnam station with a frown on his face as he scrutinised the very confusing map of Seoul he had downloaded from Naver as a means of easier navigation. Not only that, he even went as far as moving to Seoul and transferring to the same university so he could be together with Jeongguk.
It wasn’t as though he couldn’t be with Jeongguk from the start. He could have taken the same train as Jeongguk two years ago and saved them from the pain of a long distance relationship, it was not as if anyone would have stopped him. However, at the time, the thought of leaving his family behind was too much for him to bear, especially when his sense of responsibility towards them was extremely strong. If it wasn’t for his parents convincing him to pursue his dreams in Seoul like he’d always wished for - they were also tired of seeing their darling boy moping around about not being able to see his ‘Jeonggukie’ but of course, they kept quiet about that - Taehyung would have still been in his hometown, helping around at the farms while suppressing his wishes to get a better, more extensive education on his desired major - fashion designing.
With the help of his parents, Taehyung had planned everything from A to Z, wanting to surprise Jeongguk on his first day in Seoul while making sure that everything would be the best that it could be. The class schedule that Jeongguk had sent to him - for the convenience of setting up their nightly video calls - also came in handy as it enabled Taehyung to look for the younger easily whenever he arrived in Seoul.
Taehyung could already picture it, just how excited Jeongguk would be when his gaze lands on Taehyung, how the younger would launch himself into Taehyung’s arms - just like he always did whenever he came to visit Taehyung in Daegu - and giggle cutely, nose scrunching and eyes crinkling with his endearing bunny teeth proudly exposed.
While happily humming a tune as he strolled down the busy streets - that was, after a long and exhausting battle of him trying to figure out how the maps worked - Taehyung let himself think about his boyfriend whom he will meet very soon, not at all aware of the obstacle he would be facing ahead and put a damper to his previously joyous mood.
It had only been three hours since Taehyung arrived at the prestigious Seoul National University, and the poor Daegu boy was just about ready to rip his own hair out in frustration.
After meticulously studying the university map and following it to the location of Jeongguk’s current - and final - class of the day, Taehyung was brimming with excitement. After all, given how much of a sucker Jeongguk was for romantic gestures, Taehyung expected nothing less than hours of his - very much well deserved - special Jeonggukie smooches and cuddles by the end of the day.
But, of course, things just had to be difficult as instead of breezily going through with his surprise plan and making his earlier imaginations reality, Taehyung, on the contrary, was not even able to catch so much as even a glimpse of Jeongguk. Let alone a proper look at the darling boy that he had desperately missed. Instead, he was left shocked after being pushed back by the swarm of students that had, for whatever reason, decided to flock towards the cosmetology building right before Jeongguk’s class ended.
It wasn’t until the lecture hall door opened and the students started filtering out of the hall that Taehyung figured out what was going on. The sea of people gathered around the entrance of the hall where Jeongguk’s class was held, they were all there for one reason. That reason was none other than one bunny-like human, the one that Taehyung was head over heels over for three years now and prepared to surprise for over a month now.
Jeongguk.
It wasn’t all that surprising, really. Who wouldn’t love Jeongguk, the muscly, tattooed guy who had not only the gentlest of demeanours and the softest voice, but was also majoring in cosmetology with a massive following on YouTube as a beauty vlogger, right? Jeon Jeongguk was a walking paradox and just that fact alone was enough to pique anyone’s interest. The fact that he was also extremely attractive? Well, that was definitely the cherry on top that lured people in even more.
Now, Taehyung should have expected such a turn of events, but he never expected it to be this huge of a problem. Unconsciously, he felt his eyes twitch in annoyance. Just from the very brief and limited glimpse he had of Jeongguk before his view was obstructed, Taehyung could already tell just how uncomfortable he must have been with the situation.
Taehyung felt a wave of epiphany wash over him. All the obvious discomfort that was etched on Jeongguk’s face during their video calls lately and the suspiciously vague explanations he gave whenever Taehyung asked, it all made sense now.
Of course.
Of course, that cute, precious little idiot - Taehyung’s idiot - would downplay what he had been enduring all this time, not wanting Taehyung to be worried about him or better yet, drop everything just so he could travel all the way to Seoul and comfort his prince.
Taehyung knew that was exactly what he would do. He knew that Jeongguk was well aware of it as well, which was probably why he believed it best to keep it all hidden and endure it on his own. After all, it wasn’t only Taehyung who had been charmed by Jeongguk’s sweet and lovable personality, but also his family, who adored the younger to bits and would undoubtedly encourage him to go to Jeongguk if he was in any kind of trouble.
Just as he was getting deep into his thoughts, Taehyung was jolted out of his concentration when his phone vibrated against his thigh. Fishing it out of his pockets, Taehyung squinted at the screen, the contact name displaying ‘Jimin-ssi’. Jimin was a friend of Jeongguk’s that Taehyung had never been in contact with personally, their only interactions limited to the times when Taehyung felt brave enough to respond to their messages in the group chat they had together and the occasional butting into his daily video calls with Jeongguk.
Tapping on the notification, he was directed to the message which had his eyes bulging.
Jimin-ssi
Correct me if I’m wrong but was it you that I
just saw lingering at the back of the crowd earlier?
ahaha… yeah that was… me.

Oh, please, just call me Jimin!

Hm?
What is it?

Ah…
I don’t believe it’s my place to say anything…
You really should ask Jeongguk later.
oh, that’s okay, i understand!
just
is he okay?
Yes! I just walked him home and he’s alright!
You should call it a day for now.
He’s taking a shower right now, said something

For a second there, Taehyung thought that his cover had been blown and that his plan to surprise Jeongguk had failed miserably. Breathing a sigh of relief, Taehyung felt giddy at the thought of Jeongguk trying to get himself all pretty for Taehyung - as if he wasn’t god-tier looking just as he was. However, the giddiness was immediately tampered down when he recalled that his baby was not only hiding things but also suffering on his own.
They really needed to talk.
It was midnight by the time they finished chatting, Jeongguk finally falling asleep with his phone in his hands while he was still in the middle of talking to Taehyung, his face smushed into his pillow and pretty long hair fanned across his pillow. Taehyung couldn’t help but stare at his boyfriend, admiring how gorgeous he was even in his cute pajamas with the tiny unicorns as he pondered upon how he got so lucky to have scored someone like Jeongguk.
Surprisingly, it only took one question from Taehyung for Jeongguk to cave in and spill everything. Taehyung supposed that it was most likely due to the younger teetering close to his breaking point, which only pissed him off even more.
Not at Jeongguk, of course.
Never at Jeongguk.
Taehyung was pissed at the obsessed freaks who somehow believed it was okay to not only invade Jeongguk’s privacy but also touch him without his consent. It upset him to see just how anxious Jeongguk was earlier when he explained everything, telling Taehyung how uncomfortable he felt when they chased him around and grabbed at him like he didn’t deserve any common human decency.
It took all of Taehyung’s willpower to reel in his rage, he didn’t want to scare Jeongguk by lashing out, especially not when the younger was already shaken up as it was, but damn it . Taehyung really wanted to give all those imbeciles a piece of his mind for making Jeongguk’s life difficult.
Taehyung tried to comfort Jeongguk the best that he could through his screen, promising that he’ll give Jeongguk a big hug when they see each other again but it got squished down when Jeongguk continued, now talking about the abundance of - unwanted - love confessions he had received throughout the year.
It seemed that Jeongguk had tried to explain to everyone that he was happily taken, but for some reason, no one seemed to believe him. Instead, they created this ridiculous, completely preposterous narrative that Jeongguk was lying about his relationship to get everyone off his back.
So, yes. It was safe to say that Jeongguk’s method to solve the issue did not go well.
Taehyung already expected it, Jeongguk was unfairly gorgeous and had a heart of gold, of course he’d be popular across campus. It’s not like it was the first time people flirted with Jeongguk and yet somehow, this time it felt a little different. There was this bubbling sensation at the pit of his stomach - and definitely not the harmless butterfly kind of sensation - causing a fuss and opening up a window to a new emotion that Taehyung wasn’t familiar with just yet, one that he decided to push aside for the time being.
Taehyung knew that Jeongguk didn’t have much problems with the confessions - Taehyung didn’t either, he trusted Jeongguk’s loyalty with his soul - since it wasn’t as if you can control and dictate how a person should feel. Jeongguk may be naturally shy and struggle a little with socialising in real life, but he was good at articulating his own words and always made sure to let them down as gently as possible.
It was the persistent, aggressive ones that made Jeongguk a little apprehensive, the stubborn ones constantly following him around and cornering him, trying to coerce him into accepting their so-called ‘love’ confessions, refusing to take ‘no’ for an answer.
Things were already bad enough as it was, but when Jeongguk confessed that it reached a point where his friends, his hyungs, had made it their personal mission to be Jeongguk’s bodyguard until he felt safe enough again, Taehyung saw red.
Jeongguk may have a black belt in Taekwondo, but if there was one thing he had learned about Jeongguk after years of being with him was that the boy had too pure of a heart. Despite his body carrying the strength of a couple men, strong arms storing energy that could pack a few punches, Jeongguk’s heart was too soft and gentle, not at all meant for violence. The boy couldn't even hurt a fly without feeling a little guilty. However, that did not mean Jeongguk was incapable of defending himself, because he not only could, but had done so multiple times before, he just tried to avoid it as much as he could because he hated the thought of hurting others, regardless of how much they deserved the treatment.
It was one of the traits that had Taehyung swooning over Jeongguk, how his darling baby could bash someone’s head in with minimal effort but was the sweetest little being to ever exist. The duality never failed to drive Taehyung absolutely bonkers.
Taehyung was tempted to just give Jeongguk a location so they could meet up, so he could properly hold Jeongguk just the way the younger adored and comfort him. But he couldn’t. Not when Jeongguk was such a bright mind and knew exactly how to read Taehyung, he would figure it out instantly and the surprise would already be ruined before it even began.
Hence, instead of following up with his sudden urge to give away his location, Taehyung decided to be patient, even if that meant not having Jeongguk in his embrace for an extra few days. Taehyung will wait for the right time to strike and surprise his little one with the romantic gesture that he knew his boyfriend would enjoy, considering how much of a hopeless romantic he was.
Staring at Jeongguk’s peacefully sleeping features one last time, Taehyung ended the call before letting himself drift off to sleep as well, ignoring the green monster that was beginning to fester within him.
It has been four days, four long excruciating days in which Taehyung had to go without Jeongguk, and Taehyung was having none of it. It was tormenting, being so close yet so far away from each other and he was done waiting and moping around. Jeongguk is his boyfriend and he would not let anything get in the way of him seeing his precious prince and giving him all of the smooches and cuddles he desired.
Letting go of his plans to surprise Jeongguk on his own, Taehyung changed tactics. Rather than continuing to struggle on his own, Taehyung opted to recruit the assistance of Jeongguk’s friends so he could actually hold his boyfriend properly, the idea of holding back too painful for him to bear when Jeongguk was already so near and within reach. Planning everything out, everyone decided that it would be best for them to do it at one of the more vacant cafes located in the campus, hidden between the two busiest faculties in the university - medicine and engineering - where the students barely had any time to visit the cafe what with their packed schedule, as getting lunch out of campus grounds would only make Jeongguk suspicious.
With their plans all set, it didn’t take much to get Jeongguk to agree, the maknae of the group completely oblivious of the plan they had hidden from him with utmost care - all because of the puppy eyes that Taehyung had flashed at them as he begged for their help to make the surprise a success. It was a plus that Jeongguk actually preferred the quiet cafe they had chosen as it meant less of the borderline stalkers he had to deal with at all times of the day.
And so, just like that, they waited for the designated day to arrive, hoping that everything will turn out well and the lovebirds would finally be together again, the hyungs acknowledging that having to bear with their two youngest being grossly in love with each other was better than seeing them sulk around about missing one another. What they failed to realise was that they could be quite the annoying lovebirds themselves.
Exactly as planned, the others had managed to convince poor, clueless Jeongguk to follow them, which was how all of them were now at the chosen cafe, albeit with some difficulty. Panting with sweat dripping down their foreheads, the group of six plopped down onto the seats at one of the empty cafe booths, Jeongguk squeezed in between Namjoon and Seokjin to block out any unwanted attention and borderline creepy staring from the younger’s sight while Jimin and Hoseok sat on either sides of Yoongi, teasing the oldest of the three and pinching his soft dumpling cheeks in glee.
Just another normal day in the life of Jeongguk.
Except, they had clearly underestimated some of the weird, relentless stalkers that were still so adamant on chasing after Jeongguk even after he had explained not once, not twice, but multiple times that he was in a loving relationship with a boyfriend that he would not trade for anything. At the very least, despite how shameless they were, they still had the decency to not come any closer with all of his friends around, maintaining their distance yet still keeping a close eye on Jeongguk. The same couldn’t be said had Jeongguk been alone instead.
Jeongguk shrunk down a little in his seat, lips downturned into a sad pout. It was disappointing how just wanting to do the things he enjoyed and was happy with came with such dire consequences, stripping him of his humanity and rendering him incapable of living a normal life, the people who only knew him on the screen only seeing him as an object to possess. Sure, it made him feel a lot lighter, letting go with Taehyung and being honest about his predicament, but that didn’t make him feel like any less of a burden to both his boyfriend and friends. Guilt began to consume his being, all too aware of just how much his hyungs had to sacrifice so he could be comfortable on campus. It made him feel bad that the other guys weren’t able to fully enjoy themselves because of him.
Jeongguk felt his energy deflating, appetite now lost and all he wanted to do was go back to his apartment so he could rest and recharge. He stood up, about to excuse himself for the day, about to tell the others to enjoy without his presence and that he’d be fine on his own, when he was stopped by Seokjin who pulled him back down into his seat.
“Hyung?” Jeongguk turned towards Seokjin in confusion.
Seokjin regarded him with a soft, reassuring smile, “Not yet. Just hang on a little bit longer.”
“What?” Jeongguk furrowed his eyebrows but Seokjin didn’t respond, only turning back to look at the three seated across them with a knowing look, the trio responding with their very own dopey grins, indicating that they definitely knew something that Jeongguk did not.
He turned towards Namjoon, hoping that the more responsible one of them would give him any clue, but it was hopeless. Namjoon also shared the exact same satisfied look as the others.
Jeongguk was at a loss, a foreboding feeling thrumming through his veins as he wondered what his hyungs might have planned without his knowing. He knew those expressions they were wearing, the ones that appeared whenever they had a grand scheme up their sleeves. It definitely scared Jeongguk a little but he decided to stay, just in case they got into any trouble with whatever they were planning.
It wouldn’t be the first time, especially considering their penchant for trouble - Namjoon being too weak to deny Seokjin anything despite being dubbed as the most responsible of the group. If it wasn’t Namjoon getting strung along by his boyfriend to dive head first into trouble, then it was him being the cause of it, known for his clumsiness which tended to land him in awkward, unwanted scenarios.
Jeongguk had lost count the number of times he had to keep them in check and make sure they went back home in one piece - primarily after a wild night of partying and drinking which was not at all Jeongguk’s kind of scene. Unlike most of his peers, Jeongguk would much rather spend his Friday nights at home, wrapped in the fluffy blanket Taehyung had bought him last Christmas as he binge watched his comfort movies while being on video call with his boyfriend.
It took another few minutes of Jeongguk dealing with his group of friends being uncharacteristically quiet with their suspicious-looking grins that were slowly beginning to grow creepy when Jimin’s face lit up at something - more like someone - behind him. It made Jeongguk feel even more self conscious, not even daring to turn around to see what was going on with the few pairs of unwelcome eyes still trained on him, shrinking even lower into his seat.
Jeongguk closed his eyes, just wishing that everything would be over with so he could go home when Jimin called out to him.
“Jeongguk-ah, someone’s here to see you.”
Jeongguk blinked in confusion.
Someone?
Exactly who was this someone who had come to see him?
“H-huh? Hyung, I really don’t wanna meet anyone right now. Just- Just wanna go home and shower and- and call Taehyungie-hyung… Please, I really can’t-”
“Jeongguk.”
Jeongguk froze, his words stumbling into a halt, body freezing in place as he tried to wrap his head around the voice that he had just heard. The deep voice that had always lulled Jeongguk to sleep at night, the voice as calming as the soft ocean breeze carrying away all of his worries, the voice of the one person that Jeongguk wanted to see the most.
Taehyung.
It couldn’t be, right?
No way.
He was supposed to be in Daegu, like he had told Jeongguk.
Jeongguk’s breath hitched, refusing to believe his own ears. He looked at his hyungs desperately for guidance, only to receive soft, warm smiles and gentle nods proving that he, indeed, did not hear it wrong.
Still, Jeongguk was scared to turn around, scared that it would only be a figment of his imagination, scared that this would be a dream that he would wake up from all alone, Taehyung nowhere in sight.
Just then, the voice spoke up again, as if they could read his mind.
“Jeongguk-ah, baby. Turn around.”
Jeongguk didn’t need to be told twice, turning around swiftly, only to be met with a sight that he had never even dared to dream of. Right there, just a few feet behind his seat, stood Kim Taehyung - the love of his life, the source of his joy, his comfort person - with an intricate bouquet of his birth tiger lilies - Jeongguk’s birth flowers - in his arms.
Immediately, tears - ones of joy, of course - sprung into his eyes, and Jeongguk couldn’t even be bothered to wait for Seokjin to move so he could get out of the booth, jumping over it instead and promptly dashing towards Taehyung before launching himself into older’s arms, burying his face on his boyfriend’s broad, comforting shoulder. Taehyung accepted him with open arms, even though he was struggling with how bulky Jeongguk had gotten over the past few months.
How could he complain when Jeongguk was finally back in his arms, right where he belonged?
“Hyung… You’re actually here…” Jeongguk let out a sniffle and stood up straight so he could look at Taehyung’s face again, still unable to grasp that the Taehyung he was seeing - holding - was in fact real and not just an illusion his tired mind had conjured up just to make him suffer.
Taehyung smiled fondly, taking in Jeongguk’s red-rimmed eyes and flushed skin before cupping those squishable round cheeks that he adored with all his heart in the palm of his hands, “Yes. I’m here, sweetheart. I’m here to stay, for good this time.”
Just then, Taehyung thumbed at the tears still flowing down Jeongguk’s cheeks gently and, without warning, leaned in to press a soft, feather-light kiss on the younger’s lush petal pink lips. Jeongguk’s breath hitched, his tears shocked to a stop at the sudden soft kiss. It wasn’t even a deep kiss, there was no action, no push and pull, not even much effort in the kiss, and yet, Jeongguk could feel all of emotions - all of the longing, the affection, the love - that Taehyung had tried to convey just from that one simple peck alone.
It made Jeongguk’s heart soar, how Taehyung looked at him like he was the most precious gem he could ever find, and Jeongguk flushed darker before wrapping his arms tighter around Taehyung’s shoulder, refusing to let go. Taehyung had to shift the bouquet in his hands to make sure it wasn’t ruined but made sure to hold Jeongguk tight, entirely too aware that the younger relied on physical affection for comfort.
From the corner of his eyes, Taehyung could see the other patrons in the cafe staring at the two of them weirdly, but he didn’t pay them much attention. All he cared about was that Jeongguk was now in his arms, safe and satiated, and that was more than enough for him. Even so, Taehyung was nothing if not a sharp guy and he could see the scornful looks on their faces as they watched him and Jeongguk embracing each other the way long lost lovers would and reflexively, he glared daggers at them as a warning to back off.
They did, quite immediately too. Then again, no one would be stupid enough to go against someone like Taehyung - whose poker face was already hard to read - glaring menacingly at them as though he would tear them apart if they even made one wrong move.
Once Taehyung was sure no one would approach Jeongguk - who was almost dead on his feet - he looked to the others at the booth for what to do. They only waved him off, telling him to take Jeongguk home for the day and let him rest. Taehyung nodded vigorously, thanking them for their help while Jeongguk waved at them halfheartedly, hands still clutching onto Taehyung’s shirt in fear that he would vanish in the blink of an eye. Together, they left the cafe with Jeongguk tucked against Taehyung’s side, whining about how much he missed Taehyung while the older glared at anyone who so much as even glanced their way.
The others at the booth watched the scene amusedly, having never thought that they would ever get to see Taehyung who was normally carefree looking so… possessive. They couldn’t wait to see how it all would turn out in the future.
Guess their life was just about to get even more spiced up with the entrance of such an easily riled up Taehyung.
Perhaps this time, those idiots that still believe they have even a sliver of likelihood with Jeongguk would stop tormenting their youngest when they realise that they never stood a chance, not in the presence of Taehyung who had already been with Jeongguk for more than three years now and knew exactly all of the younger’s likes, dislikes and preferences.
Who knows?
It had barely even been a few hours since Taehyung and Jeongguk reconnected, yet it felt like they had never separated at all. There were no signs of awkwardness, conversations flowing like a never-ending stream and intimate touches coming all too naturally, almost as though they had not endured two years of long-distance relationship with each other, bereft of the physical comfort the lovebirds heavily relied on. Jeongguk loved it, loved how Taehyung made him feel at ease, loved how everything fell into place as soon as he was in Taehyung’s warm, protective embrace, guarded close to his heart like a precious, one-of-a-kind jewel.
Taehyung felt the exact same way. Nothing could beat having his one and only prince to pamper once again, his sweet little boy to hold in his arms and cherish, his little bunny and his tiny nose scrunches to wake up to. Taehyung had no idea how he managed to survive two years without being in such close proximity with Jeongguk, but never again. Once was more than enough, he was done. He said so to Jeongguk, who only chuckled but did not object, agreeing that he would rather not go through such torture again.
The couple were currently lying down on Jeongguk’s - and also Taehyung’s now - spacious bed after unpacking all of older one’s belongings into half of the drawers and closets that Jeongguk had kept empty all this while, his heart always hoping that one day Taehyung would be together with him, just like they were now. Jeongguk felt whole, complete, now that those empty spaces he unconsciously left behind had been filled to the brim with Taehyung’s items, just like how the Taehyung-shaped void in Jeongguk’s heart had finally been refilled with the presence of Taehyung back in his life.
Just when they believed that things would get easier now that they were finally back together, things took a turn.
The turn was definitely not in the direction they were expecting to be steered into.
Jeongguk truly thought now that everyone will finally leave him alone after knowing he was telling the truth this whole time when he said he had a boyfriend, especially with the grand entrance Taehyung had made at the cafe earlier at lunch - Jeongguk refused to talk about it as it made him embarrassed, how he had launched himself towards Taehyung without a care. It must have been such a sight. After all, no sane person would go after someone taken, right?
It was apparently too much to ask for.
Jeongguk’s phone on the nightstand wouldn’t stop buzzing, and it stressed him out. All he wanted was a peaceful time with his love, but he couldn’t even have just that. Pouting, Jeongguk reached towards his phone with only his arms, refusing to budge from the comfy position he was in - his head lying on Taehyung’s chest with the comforting weight of the older’s warm hands on his waist, rubbing soothing circles onto his skin. Jeongguk’s intention was to just switch his phone off, but he got curious at the insane amount of notifications coming in without rest.
Gulping, Jeongguk unlocked his phone, getting hit by his notifications blowing up with multiple mentions and messages, his inbox spammed by everyone which only served to cause a spike in his anxiety. Apparently, the news had spread like wildfire, everyone not just wondering innocently, but enraged at the new transfer student that had dared to sweep Jeongguk off his feet when the boy wouldn’t even give anyone any time of the day. Taehyung could immediately tell what was going on just from Jeongguk’s expression but didn’t want to push him. Instead, Taehyung kept himself quiet, waiting until Jeongguk was ready to share with him, which was surprisingly quick as the boy immediately passed his phone over to Taehyung.
Taehyung squinted at the bright screen confusedly, scrolling through the hundreds of posts and messages speculating about him and Jeongguk while scoffing at how ridiculous and self-entitled they all sound. Deciding that was enough stress for today, Taehyung turned off Jeongguk’s cell phone and put it aside, pulling Jeongguk into his chest, promising that they would be okay and he would take down anyone that tried to get in the way of their relationship.
Jeongguk giggled adorably at that, retaliating that he should be the one doing all the taking down since he was the strong one, but Taehyung only smothered him with kisses, saying that his strength didn’t matter, he would still teach anyone that hurt Jeongguk a lesson. That’s how they ended up falling asleep that night, with lilting laughter and soft kisses on bare skin shared between them, limbs messily intertwined with each other to the point where it was distinguishable where one ended and the other began.
A week after everything, Taehyung and Jeongguk thought that things would have died down a little, that the students would lose interest in the situation just like they would with any other story. Unfortunately, that was far from the truth. Within that short period of time, Taehyung had made a name for himself, dubbed as Jeongguk's guard dog for constantly terrifying anyone who dared approach Jeongguk. Not only that, it also seemed that as days went on with the couple not responding to any of their provocations, the students only became more obsessed with Taehyung and Jeongguk’s relationship, some even going as far as to try and dig up information about their love life from their past.
It terrified both of them to see just how invested the students were in their relationship when it had absolutely nothing to do with them but it wasn’t a surprise either.
They had created the narrative that Jeongguk was shy and lied about having a boyfriend so people would stop crowding around him and following him everywhere. It had been a narrative they had been clinging onto for dear life as a means of convincing themselves that everyone had a chance with Jeongguk, they just gotta make him like them.
When the narrative was suddenly torn apart with the arrival of Taehyung, most of them were in denial. It tore them apart to know that they never had a chance in the first place. It crushed their egos how they were wrong this entire time.
It couldn’t be right?
There was no way cute attractive cosmetologist and youtuber Jeongguk could be taken by cold transfer student Taehyung, right?
This is probably one of his tactics to avoid us.
Those were the initial thoughts that crossed their minds when Taehyung first showed up. After all, it did seem like the guy just randomly appeared out of nowhere - or at least that’s what the students thought.
Jeongguk couldn’t help but sigh. He was only just a normal beauty YouTuber and it’s already this bad, he couldn’t even begin to imagine how much worse it must be for actual celebrities who can’t even leave their own homes without lines of bodyguards by their sides. Just the thought of it alone caused Jeongguk to shudder.
Well, at least, on the bright side, most of them respected his relationship with Taehyung enough and had started keeping away from Jeongguk to respect his boundaries - not really, the scumbags were just terrified of the murderous aura Taehyung emitted whenever they tried to get close to his baby, but Jeongguk didn’t know that, and Taehyung… Well, he preferred it stayed that way. His baby should just stay oblivious to all the piercing glares he threw at anyone who even tried to get near Jeongguk.
However, that didn’t mean everything suddenly changed for the better. While the majority of the students knew to keep their distance, not wanting to face Taehyung’s wrath, there were also those who thrived on a - fruitless - challenge. It seemed that their heads were just a tad bit too thick to take a hint, to a point where they’ve taken to openly flirting with an unwilling, disinterested Jeongguk even while the couple were on a date.
Now, Taehyung was never the jealous type, never understood the need to be jealous when he had such a loyal boyfriend, but he was also human and had his limits. He trusted Jeongguk with all his heart, knew without a doubt that Jeongguk would never intentionally do anything that could potentially hurt Taehyung or break them apart. However, there were times where Jeongguk could be a little airhead and too oblivious for his own good, which made him worry. Taehyung may trust Jeongguk to not do anything rash, but he couldn’t say the same for everyone else, especially those numbskulls aiming for his boyfriend despite the younger’s objections.
Taehyung didn’t even notice the sudden side of jealousy that he had been displaying around Jeongguk these days - one that he never knew and still didn’t know he had.
That didn’t mean everyone else and Jeongguk didn’t notice though.
It started out small, with Taehyung following Jeongguk everywhere like a puppy tailing its owner. Jeongguk noticed but didn’t question it, it wasn’t too much of a character development for Taehyung in his opinion. Even in high school, Taehyung loved being close to him - stubbornly stuck to him like glue as though he couldn’t bear being without Jeongguk that their parents had to physically pull them apart whenever they visited each other’s homes - so he indulged the older, knowing that it must have been tough for Taehyung when they were separated. This continued on for a couple days, before it slowly escalated.
It wasn’t long before following Jeongguk around evolved into walking together hand-in-hand, always ensuring that Jeongguk was as near as he could be. When that was no longer enough, Taehyung had taken to clinging onto Jeongguk, not leaving a single centimetre between them wherever they went. It seemed that Taehyung couldn’t bear to keep his hands to himself anymore, not with the way his hands always found purchase on Jeongguk, whether it be on the younger’s wide hips whenever Taehyung stood behind him, squeezing the younger’s daintily slim waist as they walked side by side or rubbing at the boy’s inner thighs unconsciously whenever they found themselves seated beside each other.
At first, their friends did get a little concerned seeing Taehyung’s sudden change in behaviour, especially with how shy Jeongguk could be in real life - the total opposite of the persona he took on when he was the YouTuber JK who gave tips on makeup. However, they were rest assured when Jeongguk told them he didn’t mind it - a pink hue tinting his bread cheeks as he spoke, eyes sparkling with fondness.
They instantly understood what Jeongguk was trying to say from the blush coating his cheeks a cherry red and laughed, teasing the younger about how adorable he was enjoying the way Taehyung was now. Nowadays, while their friends snickered at the sudden bold display of possessiveness from Taehyung, throwing teasing glances at Jeongguk who only flushed a dark red in return, Taehyung remained clueless as to what he had been doing subconsciously, continuing to cling onto Jeongguk like an overgrown koala even in the hyungs’ presence, completely unaware of Jeongguk beginning to lose his mind at the bold display of affection that had him steaming from the head.
When Jeongguk told everyone that he didn’t mind the clinginess, that he didn’t dislike it, what he actually meant was he, as a matter of fact, loved it. Something about jealous Taehyung being cutely possessive and protective just… did it for Jeongguk. His brain turning to mush, butterflies fluttering in his stomach and sparks flying in the air.
Jeongguk couldn’t get enough of it.
Besides, it wasn’t as though Taehyung was dangerously possessive and controlling. Despite his obvious - to everyone else - jealousy, he didn’t forbid Jeongguk from doing his own things, became toxic or anything of the sorts. Other than the clinginess - which Jeongguk revelled in - and the anticipated lingering touches that had shivers running down Jeongguk’s spine - good shivers, of course - their relationship dynamics didn’t go through any major changes. They were still the same Taehyung and Jeongguk, just a little more grossly in love and touchy-feely than the hyungs would have liked - much to Yoongi’s dismay - and still went out separately for their own personal, individual quality time whenever they felt like it.
Everything was fine.
Actually, fine would be an understatement. If anything, they would say that life was great for them at the time being. They had each other, were living together in an apartment off campus where they had all the privacy they needed, surrounded by their small group of friends that they wouldn’t trade for the world. The couple was satisfied with their current life, they didn’t need anything else.
It helped that Taehyung’s protectiveness sent a clear message to many that Jeongguk was not someone that anyone can touch, most of them retreating and finally giving Jeongguk the space that he needed. For the few remaining blockheads that still had a difficult time understanding… Well, Jeongguk didn’t excel in Taekwondo for nothing.
But, of course, they couldn’t stop every single one of them. With Taehyung busy being clingy towards Jeongguk and the younger distracted with the older’s ministrations, they failed to notice ones that decided to switch tactics so they could get to Jeongguk.
Jeongguk was in the middle of class, taking study notes on infection control and prevention in cosmetology diligently when the lecturer dropped the bomb about pair work that would count for thirty percent of their final grades. Immediately, the hairs on the back of his neck stood up, chills running down his spine as he felt multiple eyes burning through him, stalking him as though he was prey being hunted by predators.
Jeongguk gulped and was about to turn towards Jimin and beg the older to be his partner - again - when they were interrupted by the lecturer.
“Now, this project can help you a lot for your final grade if you take it seriously, so make sure to do your best. And since I’ve noticed some of you seem to always stick to the same partner every single time,” the lecturer glanced at Jeongguk and Jimin who looked away sheepishly, “I’ve decided to pair you up randomly and I do not want to hear any objections. You need to grow up and learn to work out of your comfort zone for once.”
Jeongguk felt his soul leave his body, he didn’t have any other friend except for Jimin in the class. How was he supposed to survive being paired up with a stranger? Jeongguk was no longer listening as the lecturer rattled on and on about comfort zones and such, head lowered onto his desk as his mind buzzed with 1001 ways this could go wrong. He was so busy in his thoughts that he didn’t notice the class was over and someone was calling for him until his cheeks were poked.
Jeongguk jumped a little, not expecting the sudden poke and looked up. It was Lee Junseo, one of his classmates that he never really talked to.
Tilting his head in confusion, Jeongguk questioned, “Hi? Uhm, did you need anything?”
“Oh. You didn’t hear earlier when Prof Kim was announcing about the pairworks? We’re partners.” Junseo responded, an overly ecstatic smile plastered on his face - one that unnerved Jeongguk just the slightest bit.
Jeongguk gave him a friendly smile and they began to talk, discussing strictly about the project with him blatantly avoiding any offers from Junseo to bring their conversation elsewhere. Jeongguk couldn’t pinpoint what it was, but something about Junseo felt off, and he would rather not be alone with the male - who was more of a stranger than an acquaintance to him. The lecture hall was the best option for the time being, with all the students still hanging around having their own discussions. It also helped when Jimin flashed him an encouraging smile from the front, giving him strength. If he were to move to another place with Junseo, he wouldn’t only be an anxious mess but their discussion would also just head to a dead end.
Junseo appeared a little dismayed at all of his advances being rejected, but he eventually dropped it, which relieved Jeongguk immensely. They continued their discussion, deciding on the theme of their project where they had to create a unique makeup look based on their theme. Things got serious then, the two sharing their thoughts as they went along. Junseo was nice enough, offering insightful input when he could and was considerate with Jeongguk’s thoughts, so he decided to give the other male a chance. Hopefully things would go well and they wouldn’t need to face too many challenges working on their projects.
Who knows, perhaps Jeongguk would even find a new friend in Junseo?
After a thorough discussion, Jeongguk had decided that Monday and Wednesday afternoons would be reserved for meeting up with Junseo for their project. It was the only time when they were both free from lectures and Taehyung would be busy with his own classes, which was a win-win in Jeongguk’s opinion. That way, he wouldn’t need to sacrifice his sacred time with his boyfriend while still having optimum time to work on the project. Taehyung was a little pouty about Jeongguk working alone with a stranger but just a kiss and a promise of a date during the weekend was enough to satiate the overgrown cuddle bear - Jeongguk’s overgrown cuddle bear, that was - so he would stop grumbling and clinging onto Jeongguk like an octopus.
The first few meetups went well. Jeongguk had requested they meet up at the university library - to which Junseo agreed easily, and they spent their time there doing their research silently, focused on their work. With Jeongguk’s guide, making sure that Junseo stayed on track, they managed to do quite a lot in such a short amount of time. Jeongguk couldn’t help but grin in satisfaction.
If this kept up, he was optimistic they would be done in no time and he could focus on his other projects - both academic and personal ones - while still having time for his boyfriend.
At least that was what Jeongguk thought until the third week of him and Junseo working on the project. That was when Junseo started being difficult. Junseo didn’t bail on him, no, he still showed up and worked on the project with Jeongguk, but he wouldn’t stop trying to distract Jeongguk, trying to stall so they took longer working on the project. Junseo kept whining about changing the location of their meetups, claiming that he was getting bored of the environment and it was the cause of his lack of productivity. Jeongguk was reluctant but eventually agreed, as long as it was a public space, thinking that it might boost Junseo’s motivation.
How wrong and naive he was for thinking that would get them back on track.
Instead of going back to their usual work, Junseo only got worse. He kept getting all personal with Jeongguk, which was not at all ideal with Jeongguk who was a perfectionist and extremely serious about his tasks. It came to a point where their meetings that normally lasted for at most three hours, dragged on until way past midnight. Jeongguk wondered if that was the goal Junseo was trying to accomplish, getting him alone at night when the streets were empty and the cafe was close to its closing time, but shook the thought out of his mind.
Junseo may be a tad bit too annoying for Jeongguk’s liking, but he’s been pretty decent so far, so Jeongguk didn’t want to think badly of the poor guy. That wouldn’t be fair for Junseo.
However, that didn’t stop Jeongguk from texting Taehyung his whereabouts earlier, growing a little wary with Junseo’s behaviour, persistent on not letting him leave and insisting on driving Jeongguk home even though he had refused. Fortunately, Taehyung responded instantly that he would be there soon and to hang tight.
They were standing outside of the cafe, Junseo adamant on Jeongguk getting a lift home from him and tried pulling Jeongguk towards the car when he was pulled back, stumbling into a sturdy chest. Jeongguk didn’t need to look to know who it was.
“Taehyungie-hyung.” Jeongguk breathed in relief, sagging into the older’s hold.
Taehyung smiled at Jeongguk, arms wrapped around Jeongguk’s tiny waist like a belt, “Hey baby, were you waiting long?”
“Nope, we just finished, hyung.” Jeongguk flashed his boyfriend a tired grin.
Taehyung could tell that the younger one wanted to leave, so he didn’t stall any longer.
“Shall we go home, then?” Taehyung planted a kiss on Jeongguk’s nose unannounced, eyes on Junseo who was quietly seething at the side.
Jeongguk yelped, not at all expecting the kiss and playfully hit Taehyung’s chest, “Hyung, what was that for?”
“Nothing, just felt like it.” Taehyung responded, still staring at Junseo.
Following Taehyung’s gaze, Jeongguk finally remembered that Junseo was still there and flushed red.
“A-ah, Taehyungie-hyung’s here now so I’ll be off. Have a great night, I’ll see you in our next session!” Jeongguk blurted before pulling Taehyung away, not even bothering to wait for Junseo’s response.
Once they were far enough away that Junseo wouldn’t be able to eavesdrop, Taehyung voiced out his concerns.
“You’ve been coming back later than usual for the past few meetings. Is everything alright, bun?”
Jeongguk felt his face grow hotter at the nickname but chose to ignore it, instead answering, “Yeah, it’s just that Junseo tends to get distracted a lot, so we end up having to spend more time to finish the tasks that we’ve allocated for the day.”
Taehyung hummed in understanding, “We’ve been worried, you know? You’ve been stressing about this project a lot and you don’t seem all that happy about your partner.”
“Yeah… but, I don’t want to make things complicated. This project is really important, it’s thirty percent of my final grade and I don’t wanna fuck it up, but I don’t know… Junseo, he’s not that bad. It’s just- there’s just something about Junseo that activates my fight or flight instincts. I don’t know what it is, but I just wanna quickly get this done so I don’t need to be alone with him again.”
Taehyung listened to Jeongguk attentively, scowling as he recalled the way Junseo had Jeongguk in his grip earlier, “Yeah, that would probably be best. If you ever need any help, just let me or the hyungs know, alright? We can walk you home whenever you need it.”
Jeongguk nodded in agreement and the conversation stopped there, the two walking the rest of the way home in comfortable silence. If Jeongguk noticed the way Taehyung’s grip on his tightened a little, he didn’t make it known, only pushing himself closer to Taehyung as they continued walking together.
It had been two months since Jeongguk and Junseo started working on the project they were paired together for and Jeongguk was happy to say that they have made a lot of progress. Once again, they were on their way to their weekly meetups, choosing to go to the cafe they usually frequented since they hadn’t eaten lunch yet. However, as soon as they arrived, they were shocked by the amount of students in the cafe. Jeongguk scanned through the familiar faces, realising that almost half of them were their classmates and judging from how frantic they looked, they most likely procrastinated and were only beginning on the project now, just one month away from the deadline.
For once, starting early and dealing with Junseo for such a long time seemed worth it, the two only needing to finalise their report and start on the practical part of the project before they can submit it to their lecturer. Seeing as there wasn’t really much left for them to work on, Jeongguk turned towards Junseo.
“Well, the cafe is full and since we’re almost done anyways, how about we take a break today and meet up again next week?” Jeongguk smiled, hoping that Junseo would agree as he was tired from working on his commissions and YouTube videos.
Jeongguk could really use a break, no matter how short it was.
It didn’t hurt to try, even though a tiny part of Jeongguk already expected Junseo to refuse. However, Jeongguk did not take into account Junseo reacting so passionately to the suggestion.
“No!” Junseo yelled, attracting the attention of the people around them and startling Jeongguk.
Jeongguk furrowed his brows in confusion, waiting for Junseo to continue.
It took a little for Junseo to catch his breath, but he explained, “What I meant to say was that we’ve already been giving our best so far, why not go all the way?”
And Jeongguk had no absolutely no idea how to respond to that question.
“Uhm but… well, the cafe and the library are both full, plus it’d take time for us to find a better location, I just thought maybe we earned ourselves a one day break?”
At that, Junseo’s face lit up with an expression that Jeongguk most definitely did not trust, one that promised things that Jeongguk would most likely not want to have anything to do with.
“Why make it difficult? We could always just go to my place. I live alone anyways, so we’d have the place all to ourselves, the perfect condition to study.”
Jeongguk laughed awkwardly at that, of course he would suggest a place that Jeongguk was not familiar with. Just the thought of being alone with Junseo in what could be considered the other male’s territory - his playground - made Jeongguk’s stomach churn. He kept it to himself however, and decided to give another alternative.
“On second thought, how about we go to mine instead? It’s really near and all, so…”
Jeongguk suggested with a strained smile, anxiously anticipating Junseo’s reaction. Luckily enough, Junseo agreed with ease, causing Jeongguk to slowly release the breath of air that he had unconsciously been holding. With a heavy heart, Jeongguk led Junseo to his apartment, secretly hoping that Taehyung would be home so he wouldn’t need to be alone with Junseo in such a confined space.
When they arrived at the front door, Jeongguk felt his anxiety bubble up again, and it didn’t help his case when he caught the expression that Junseo had on his face. The fact that Junseo looked a little too pleased with himself only further discomforted Jeongguk, but he persevered, turning the lock in an agonisingly slow pace before hesitantly inviting him in.
As soon as Junseo took his first step inside, he let out a loud, impressed whistle, eyes roaming around the decor in the cosy looking apartment. Jeongguk watched as he took in the few potted plants arranged in different areas of the space, the cute framed pictures and art pieces hung on the walls in aesthetic fashion, the chequered throw blanket - the one that Taehyung and Jeongguk cuddled under during their movie nights - folded neatly and placed over the couch, along with the fluffy rugs in the living room.
Junseo snickered, causing Jeongguk to stiffen.
“What- what is it?” Jeongguk questioned.
Junseo looked at the apartment then back at Jeongguk, commenting, “Nothing, it’s just, your apartment. I didn’t know exactly what I was expecting since you’re so unpredictable. It is cute, like you. It suits you.”
“Oh. Uhm, thanks. I guess.” Jeongguk didn’t really know how to react to the sudden compliment, but Junseo sounded genuine for once, so he took it as it was, but it was nowhere near enough for him to let his guards down.
Directing Junseo to the coffee table, Jeongguk told him to make himself comfortable before promptly heading to the kitchen to make some refreshments since they were both hungry. Bustling around the kitchen, Jeongguk got himself busy preparing tuna sandwiches - or super tuna sandwiches as Seokjin would fondly call them - to fill them up along with cutting up some apples for dessert. It didn’t take long and he was about done when he remembered that he had not asked Junseo what drink he preferred.
Thinking that Junseo was still in the living room, Jeongguk raised his voice a little “Junseo, what drink would you prefer? We have coffee, tea, orange juice, and-”
Jeongguk cut himself with a squeak when a pair of arms caged him against the counter, breath hitched and dropping some of the tuna that he was scooping on the cutting board.
Calming down a little, trembling hands fisted in his shirt, Jeongguk pleaded, “Junseo, could you please move back a little, I need to-”
“You.” was all Junseo said, his breath dusting over Jeongguk’s exposed nape and causing him to tense even more.
Jeongguk gulped, his voice shaky as he spoke, “What?”
“I don’t need the drinks, just you should suffice.” Junseo had a smirk on his face, as though he was proud of his own words.
And Jeongguk was sickened .
Turning around, Jeongguk placed his hands on Junseo’s shoulders and pushed him away, out of his personal space. Instantly, he was able to breathe. Junseo still had that same satisfied smirk on his face, enjoying just how affected Jeongguk was by what he did - uncaring that Jeongguk’s reaction was anything but a positive one. He was about to advance again, addicted to the way Jeongguk’s eyes widened with fear when a deep voice could be heard from the kitchen’s entrance.
“Hmm… I smell tuna sandwiches.”
Just like that, Taehyung made an appearance, curly hair unruly and shirt slightly crumpled from what could only be at least a couple hours of deep, uninterrupted sleep. Jeongguk wasted not a single second and immediately jumped Taehyung, who of course, even in his bleary-eyed state, caught his prince with ease.
“Hyung! You were home?” Jeongguk latched onto Taehyung, cupping his baby bear’s puffy cheeks.
Taehyung hummed in response, eyes trailing over to Junseo who stared at the two being domestic in contempt.
“Yeah, my only class today got cancelled so I’m free the whole day. I just woke up from a nap when I heard some commotion. Is everything okay?”
Just then, Taehyung could feel the way Jeongguk tensed up in his hold, avoiding looking at Junseo who kept quiet. He frowned, about to ask what was wrong when Jeongguk mumbled out, rather forced.
“Y-yeah, everything’s fine. Was just making some refreshments for me and Junseo. Do you want some too, hyung?”
Taehyung eyed Jeongguk suspiciously, but still responded, “If it’s not too much trouble, then I’d love to have some of your famous super tuna sandwiches.”
Jeongguk nodded with a giggle as he playfully punched Taehyung’s arm lightly, feeling a little better now that his boyfriend was around. He was about to go back to his sandwiches when Taehyung tugged him back with a hand wrapped around his wrist.
“Baby, can we talk for a bit? In private.” Taehyung stared at Junseo, waiting for him to take a hint and leave.
Luckily, he did and headed out of the kitchen, seating himself at the coffee table where he was supposed to be.
That’s when Taehyung finally let go of Jeongguk.
“I need the truth this time, Ggukie. Are you okay? I saw him, earlier, he was caging you against the counter,” Jeongguk winced at that, “I didn’t want to cause any trouble, and you pushed him off before I could intervene. Do you need me to do anything? I wouldn’t be against resorting to violence if he tried anything that you’re uncomfortable with.”
Jeongguk couldn’t help but chuckle at Taehyung’s concern, even though he was sure - could actually hear from the edge in Taehyung’s voice - that he was genuine, especially with the last part.
“I’m okay. Hyung’s here now, so I’m okay. Just- Later, would it be okay if you stay near me while we discuss the project? I really don’t want to be alone with him.”
“Did you really think I’d leave you alone with him after what just happened? Of course, I’ll stay with you. You don’t have to worry about that.”
Jeongguk felt as though the tight coil around his figure had snapped when Taehyung agreed, lunging forward to press a firm kiss on Taehyung’s dry, chapped lips. Taehyung noticed how Junseo scowled at them when the kiss happened and decided that yes, he really should keep an eye on Jeongguk until they’re done with the project to make sure Jeongguk would be alright.
The rest of the day was spent with Taehyung sitting across from Junseo at the coffee table, Jeongguk comfortably seated on the former’s lap as he nibbled away at the sandwiches and apples while working on his tasks. Jeongguk was so focused on his work, eyes moving rapidly as he scanned the papers spread in front of him, entirely oblivious to Taehyung and Junseo having a staring match right above him.
That was, until Junseo suddenly cut things short, saying that he had something to attend to urgently before leaving hastily. Neither Taehyung and Jeongguk tried to stop him, they didn’t even get the chance to properly see him out with the way he rushed through the door.
“Thank god, he’s finally gone.” Jeongguk sighed, sagging into Taehyung’s hold, burying his face in the older male’s chest and curling up to make himself appear small.
Taehyung couldn’t help but feel endeared with how cute Jeongguk looked, arms instinctively pulling Jeongguk closer. Jeongguk chuckled at the action, thinking about how clingy Taehyung had been since the first time he properly met Junseo, the way he pouted so adorably whenever Jeongguk had to leave to see Junseo.
“Hyung, you know there’s nothing for you to be jealous of, right?” Jeongguk teased, giggling when Taehyung’s cheeks flushed a rosy red.
The older pouted petulantly, “I know that, but that won’t stop me from being jealous. I can’t help it. I’m always jealous of people who get to see you everyday. Before you ask, yes, even the hyungs.”
Now it was Jeongguk’s turn to blush. He wasn’t expecting Taehyung to be so blunt. If anything, he was expecting Taehyung to deny at all costs that he was jealous. Jeongguk was now a flustered mess and the only thing on his mind was to reassure that there was nothing between him and Junseo.
“I-idiot. Me and Junseo, we’re not even friends. There’s nothing for you to worry about. Also, you don’t have to be jealous, they may get to see me everyday, but in the end, the one that I hold dear in my heart, the only one who gets to see the real me to its full extent, the one that I want to be with, is you.”
Taehyung gazed fondly at Jeongguk and pressed a soft kiss to the younger’s awaiting lush pink lips, “It's the same for me, baby. I love you. I trust you, with all my soul. It’s just Junseo that I don’t trust. I can tell that he wants a lot more from you.”
There was a bitter undertone to Taehyung’s words, the older’s arms tightening even more around Jeongguk, as if he was afraid of losing the younger. Jeongguk felt bad, knowing that it would go away if he’d just quit making videos on YouTube, but he also knew that all of the people that knew him well would be devastated if he ever gave up the channel that had been and still was his joy for reasons other than because he actually wanted to.
The younger male sighed, reassuring Taehyung that the project will be done soon and there would be no more Junseo from then onwards.
Hopefully, everything would turn out alright, and Jeongguk and Taehyung could go back to their usual routine, not having to worry about Junseo meddling in their affairs.
Three months after the project was announced and two weeks after what went down at Jeongguk and Taehyung’s shared apartment, Jeongguk and Junseo were finally done with the written report which they had submitted to their lecturer. It was safe to say that they were set for a rather good grade, the lecturer seeming impressed with the concept they had decided on and giving the green light for them to proceed with the next and final part of the project, the hands-on part. Now that their idea and written report had been approved, they would have to become each other’s canvas, applying the makeup they had chosen on each other to be presented to their lecturer directly after photos have been taken to be included in their portfolio.
Since they were already on campus, it was more convenient to book any available studios in their building to start working so they could present everything straight away and get it over and done with, so they did exactly just that. Once again, Junseo thought that he would have the chance to be alone with Jeongguk again, already planning out different approaches he could utilise to corner Jeongguk and witness the vulnerable look that he had the last time Junseo got bold.
However, it seemed that his daydreams were only meant to be just that, daydreams , all his imaginations crushed to broken tiny pieces when he found Taehyung already waiting in the room they had booked.
Junseo glowered, demanding to know why Taehyung had to be here.
“He’s here to take our photos for the portfolio. We can’t do it ourselves, we don’t even have a camera. Our phones wouldn’t be enough to capture high quality images without taking away the tiny little details we decided on. Plus, hyung also used to be part of our high school’s photography club, I promise he’s really good! He’s almost a professional!” Jeongguk explained and beamed at Taehyung who flushed at the sudden compliment.
Junseo couldn’t refuse, he was aware that Jeongguk had a point so he went along with it, ignoring the wait his lungs burned and heart ached at the sight of the lovey-dovey couple.
Without any more questions, they began working, getting out bags of various cosmetics needed to complete the look. Jeongguk was the one to start first, and he was quick yet sharp, nimble fingers trained after years of doing makeup. He started with bold strokes in the beginning and eventually moved to smaller, cautious strokes for the intricate details they already planned, all the while looking relaxed. Jeongguk may be quick, but that did not mean he was careless with his work. To Jeongguk, makeup was a form of art, an intricate, gorgeous form of self expression, one that helped Jeongguk find himself. He had been doing makeup for so long now, and had gotten so used to it he could do it with his eyes closed.
Taehyung watched from the sidelines as Jeongguk concentrated on perfecting his masterpiece, his strokes gentle yet precise, fascinating the older male. Jeongguk was just so beautiful like this, eyes trained on his work and so deeply focused, the tip of his tongue poked out the corner of his lips. Taehyung couldn’t help himself, setting up his camera way earlier than he needed to and snapping away at Jeongguk, knowing that the younger was too deep in his zone to even hear the camera shutters going off every few seconds.
Now, if only he could remove Junseo from the picture, everything would have been perfect.
But Taehyung couldn’t, so he settled for the photos he had, going back to the corner of the room to watch his lover.
It didn’t take much longer for Jeongguk to be done, admiring his own work with a prideful gleam, pulling Taehyung closer so he could snap photos of his most recent art piece from various angles.
Next, it was Jeongguk’s turn to become a canvas, and a canvas he became. Jeongguk sat as still as he could, letting Junseo manoeuvre him as he pleased so he could do his work properly. It was alright, until Jeongguk began noticing Junseo was taking his sweet time with every single step. It made him feel queasy, the way his project partner’s touches lingered longer than was necessary, the way he gripped at Jeongguk’s figure and manhandled him instead of using verbal cues like Jeongguk had done earlier.
Jeongguk did not like it, not even one bit. However, he held himself back and endured it, repeating to himself in his head that this was the only thing left to do, that they’d be done after this and he could go back with Taehyung where they’d have the cuddle session he had been promised.
While Jeongguk was struggling with keeping himself still, he was clueless as to what the other two were doing. Jeongguk was unaware how during the entire session, Junseo would look at Taehyung challengingly, his hands constantly on Jeongguk even when they didn’t need to be. Taehyung was seething, holding himself back from trudging his way over and slapping Junseo’s filthy hands away from his baby. He knew how important this was for Jeongguk, so he maintained calm, not wanting to ruin his baby’s hard work.
It took about two and a half hours for Junseo to be done and Taehyung must give it up to him, he did a pretty damn decent job at his work. Jeongguk looked absolutely gorgeous, ethereal , almost like he didn’t belong in the world they lived in, but instead in a magical fairytale enjoying his happily ever after. Taehyung was, for a lack of better words, obsessed .
Taehyung was so busy staring at Jeongguk’s features, accentuated in all the right places, he forgot the main reason he was here. It took Jeongguk snapping his fingers right in front of his face for him to remember that he should be taking photos, not drooling over how gorgeous his living, breathing fairytale boy was. Maybe later, when the time was right, but definitely not right now when Jeongguk still needed to go see his lecturer.
Just then, the moment was broken by Junseo demanding they go to see the lecturer right that instant, unable to handle the way the couple gazed at each other so lovingly. Junseo walked out first without looking back, already knowing that Jeongguk would follow. Jeongguk actually was about to follow, e xcept he was stopped by Taehyung who suddenly spun him around and leaned in for a kiss. Jeongguk was stunned, he wanted to push back against the older’s lips but withheld himself, leaning away instead.
“You’re gonna ruin my makeup, hyung.” Jeongguk giggled.
“You would still look beautiful either way.” Taehyung deadpanned, entirely serious with his statement.
Jeongguk sputtered at the older man's words, blushing from ear to ear as he whined, “Hyung… That’s not fair… You can’t just say that with a straight face and expect me to be okay.”
“Sorry, love,” Taehyung grinned, pecking Jeongguk’s lips again, “you’re just too cute for me to resist.”
Jeongguk covered his lips with his palm gently, not wanting to smear the gloss that had been applied, “That’s it, no more kisses for you until we get home!”
“Hmm… Then, I suppose this should be fine, right?” Taehyung advanced towards Jeongguk, taking both of the younger’s wrists in his.
Jeongguk looked at Taehyung, eyes wide with anticipation paired with slight confusion, but not protesting when Taehyung leaned down to the junction between his neck and shoulder. He could feel Taehyung’s hot breath fanning over his sensitive skin, and instead of feeling disgust like he did with Junseo, all Jeongguk felt was pure excitement. He wasn’t sure what Taehyung was aiming for but at this point, he’d let Taehyung do whatever he wished.
Just as he thought this, Taehyung pulled him closer and pressed his lips to Jeongguk’s collarbone. Jeongguk thought that was it, that Taehyung would release him after a few seconds, that was until the small press of lips turned to Taehyung parting his lips and latching onto the patch of skin, causing Jeongguk to let out a shriek as he sucked a bruise on the area.
As soon as Taehyung was done, Jeongguk smacked him upside the head.
“Hyung! What were you thinking? Now, everyone will see. What if my lecturer asks about it?” Jeongguk pouted, blushing high on his cheeks.
Taehyung smirked to himself.
Good.
“Just a finishing touch to your look. Don’t worry about it, sweetcheeks. There’s a reason why I chose that spot, you can hide it easily. No one would notice a thing, unless they were looking for it, that is. Besides, you love it, don't you? Don’t think I didn’t hear the almost inaudible mewl you let out when I just started.”
Jeongguk was once again rendered speechless, he couldn’t deny it, it was all true. The best thing that he could do was yell at Taehyung, “Sh-shut up!”
Taehyung chuckled at that, finally letting go of Jeongguk who huffed in fake annoyance so he could rush to his lecturer’s office, deciding to kill time by waiting in the room until they came back so he could walk home together with Jeongguk.
After all, Jeongguk did say it shouldn’t take any longer than 20 minutes. So far, he had never been wrong with these things, so Taehyung held onto his words, like he would with a promise.
Just as Jeongguk had predicted, the meeting with his lecturer only lasted for about fifteen minutes before they were dismissed. The lecturer had not much to comment on his and Junseo’s project outcome, overall pleased with their work, even complimenting the extra research they had put in and intricate details they included to make the project more complex and interesting.
Jeongguk couldn’t wait to tell Taehyung all about it, ready to skip back to the room they were in earlier so they could go home together. However, of course, before that, Jeongguk stopped in his tracks, turning towards Junseo with a grateful smile.
“Hey, Junseo. Thanks for all your hard work in this project. I know I can be quite a lot, especially with my perfectionist side, but thank you for not giving up on me and this project. Since there’s nothing else for us, you can go home and rest, I’ll clean up the room and leave with Taehyung later.
Jeongguk bowed in thanks, just happy that it’s finally over and he’ll get the cuddles he deserved. In fact, he was just so deep in his head, ecstatic at the thought of relaxing, he did not at all notice the dark expression taking over Junseo’s features, his eyes glaring straight at the fabric hiding the hickey Jeongguk had received from Taehyung.
“What’s that on your collarbone?” Junseo asked, expression unreadable.
Jeongguk stiffened then, his hands unconsciously tugging the collars of his shirt tighter as he nervously voiced out, “W-what- What do you mean what’s on my collarbone? There’s nothing there.”
Jeonsu’s eyes twitched at that, furious at the way Jeongguk became all shy and adorably panicked whenever Taehyung was mentioned. It didn’t help that he was trying to hide the very obvious, very blatant hickey that appeared somewhat magically right after he left. Expression dark, Junseo reached forward, his hands gripping Jeongguk’s wrists and pulling them away from his shirt collar. With the movement, Jeongguk’s shirt was forcefully tugged out of his grip, one of the buttons ripping apart, causing the shirt to drop off his shoulder, the hickey that Jeongguk had been desperately hiding coming into full view.
Jeongguk was barely able to catch Junseo’s eyes turning to slits before he was pulled closer to the guy, his gaze focused intensely on the hickey.
“So, you call this nothing?” Junseo leaned down so he was level with Jeongguk’s face, eyes holding a murderous glint.
Now, Jeongguk was starting to get a little annoyed, “I can call it whatever the fuck I want, it’s my body. It literally has nothing to do with you. Now, let me go.”
Jeongguk struggled to get Junseo to release him, but the other man held his wrists in a vice grip, causing Jeongguk to wince in pain. Just when Jeongguk was about to try something dramatic to get away, Junseo spoke up, voice cracking.
“Just… why? Why does it have to be him? What does he have that I don’t?!”
Jeongguk was lost.
Just what exactly was going on?
Jeongguk took a step back, hoping to put some distance between their bodies before responding, “What are you even talking about? I don’t understand.”
Jeongguk had made sure his voice was soft and level when he spoke, hoping to get through to Junseo so he wouldn’t have to resort to violence. Unfortunately, his confusion only served to anger the other man more.
Jeongguk sighed, he really just wanted to go home and cuddle with Taehyung.
Why must life be so complicated?
Meanwhile, Junseo decided to speak again, looking absolutely unhinged and deranged, “You’ve led me on for two whole years, only to just suddenly show up with this random guy claiming to be your boyfriend. You’re lying about him, right? Were you trying to make me jealous? Was that it?”
Jeongguk felt sick to the stomach. Just how deranged was Junseo to even be able to conjure up such ridiculous thoughts? Jeongguk had no idea and to be very honest, he wasn’t sure if he even wanted to know.
“I wasn’t lying when I said Taehyung is my boyfriend. We’ve been boyfriends for years. It’s not my fault that everyone just couldn’t seem to take a hint and refused to believe I was already taken right from the beginning. Now, I really need you to let go before I do something I will end up regretting, Junseo.”
Even with the warning tone coating Jeongguk’s last sentence, Junseo still refused to budge. Instead, he took to insulting Taehyung, comparing himself - a silver spoon born into a wealthy family without even needing to lift a finger - with the fashion major who was the first son of a farmer family living in the rural parts of Daegu. He boasted about his life, claiming that Jeongguk would be happier with him than a lousy farmer’s child.
Normally, Jeongguk was never the type to be recklessly violent - not even when he desperately needed ro, and not unless his life was in literal danger. In fact, everyone including his friends knew him as very patient. However, Jeongguk was only human, and nothing set him off more than someone insulting his boyfriend and the lovely family that had raised him to be such a fine, respectable, intelligent young man. Taehyung and his family had always been welcoming towards Jeongguk, helping him find himself and doting on him as though he was already an official part of the family. Jeongguk loved them to bits, so anyone using even one wrong word against them automatically became an enemy that deserved no mercy in his head.
Jeongguk chuckled bitterly as he looked up at Junseo, smiling saccharinely sweet, a stark contrast compared to the words leaving his lips. “Junseo-ssi, I warned you to back off multiple times now, but you can’t seem to get it through that thick skull of yours. Whatever happens now, just know that you asked for this.”
Junseo didn’t even get to question what Jeongguk meant when he found himself on his back, the cold hard tiles in contact with his clothed behind, his back aching slightly and Jeongguk just watching him from on top.
What the fuck?
Was the first thought that crossed Junseo’s mind?
Did Jeon Jeongguk, who was literally a whole foot shorter than him, shoulder throw him like it was no big deal?
Junseo was rendered speechless. For a second there, he wasn’t sure if this Jeongguk was the same timid Jeongguk that he knew from his classes. He really thought that his plans would succeed this time, considering just how frail Jeongguk seemed. Junseo wasn’t expecting that beneath the doe eyes and pouty pink lips was years of martial arts ingrained into his whole being.
“I warned you.” Jeongguk said again, pulling Junseo - who was still in a daze - into a sitting position.
When Jeongguk received no response, he continued, “You could insult me all you want but not Taehyung and his family. Do it again and I might just do worse.”
Jeongguk feigned innocence as he smiled at Junseo, making it seem as though he didn’t just threaten Junseo. After making sure that there was no lasting damage, Jeongguk dusted himself off and excused himself, wanting to look for Taehyung.
Junseo felt, to say the least, humiliated. He was used to getting anything and everything he wished for with just a snap of his fingers, used to being pampered all his life without even needing to raise a finger, let alone a whole limb. To have Jeongguk reject him so nonchalantly, it hurt Junseo’s ego a lot more than he could bear. Not thinking straight, Junseo staggered upright, and was about to grasp at Jeongguk again when he found his hand slapped away by none other than…
Taehyung.
Taehyung whose right hand was still outstretched from where he had smacked Junseo’s hand away while his left one was shielding Jeongguk who was now standing behind him, eyes blown wide from the sudden appearance of Taehyung.
“You know, Junseo… I thought that my baby had already done a pretty good job at telling you off earlier but you just never listen, do you?”
Taehyung stalked towards Junseo like a predator would to a prey, the other male frantically scrambling backwards to put distance between them. That was until he felt his back meeting a wall, realising that there was no way for him to escape.
Taehyung smirked, eyes glowing with murderous intent as he gazed down at Junseo who looked close to pissing his pants in terror. Ever so gracefully, Taehyung kneeled down, leaning close to Junseo’s ear as he spoke softly, yet full of contempt.
“Jeonggukie is not just someone that any person could lay their hands on, and that includes you, Junseo. I would appreciate it if you’d keep your filthy hands to yourself. I can’t promise to be nice if I see you doing the same thing again, next time. If you want to see what it’s like to have your bones rearranged, then go ahead and try it out. I assure you that you would not like the outcome.”
Junseo shivered at the words tumbling out of Taehyung’s lips. Judging from the hot burning anger he could see in Taehyung’s eyes, Junseo knew that the guy was actually serious and nodded in understanding, not wanting to get into any more trouble.
“I-I… I understand, Taehyung-ssi.”
“Good.” Taehyung smiled brightly, all traces of whatever wild animal that had just possessed him nowhere to be seen. “From now on, stay away from my boyfriend. If I see you anywhere near him again after this, then it’s definitely not just me that you’re gonna have to answer to.”
Taehyung warned, referring to all of Jeongguk’s other hyungs who would literally drop everything in a heartbeat if they were to find out that their youngest was in any form of danger. Junseo nodded furiously at the statement, showing his understanding. As soon as Taehyung told him to leave, Junseo didn’t waste another second, immediately scrambling out of the hallway to god knows where, leaving behind a content Taehyung and a blushing Jeongguk who heard every single word Taehyung had uttered to Junseo.
Jeongguk wanted to say something, anything to Taehyung but it was as though there was a physical barricade stopping him from doing so. Fortunately, Taehyung knew his lover well, understood that Jeongguk was still in shock over what had happened and held the younger in silence, letting the boy cling to him for as long as he needed to. When Jeongguk refused to let go even after a while, Taehyung surrendered, gave up on trying to get them separated and instead hoisting the male up in his arms, resorting to carrying his clingy boyfriend all the way home, uncaring of all the weird looks he received from the people around them.
It was only when they were in the bathtub, with Jeongguk’s naked back leaned against Taehyung’s sturdy chest that the younger finally came to, confused about the events that had transpired earlier.
Taehyung smiled fondly, already used to his darling sweetheart blacking out whenever things like this happened and explained what had happened between him and Junseo. It was one of the reasons why he and the hyungs tried their best to be there for Jeongguk when things went wrong. His baby just despised using even the slightest form of violence so much that whenever he did, his brain blocked the memories for the hours that it took to finally register what had happened.
For the rest of the day, Taehyung made sure to cuddle Jeongguk closer than he normally would, providing comfort for Jeongguk who, without a doubt, must have felt guilty for shoulder throwing Junseo - even though it was obvious that the idiot deserved it. Tirelessly and full of affection, Taehyung cared for Jeongguk, preparing food for the younger one and even spoon feeding him just because he could.
They were in bed, tucked in comfortably with Jeongguk’s head resting on Taehyung’s chest when the older male suddenly spoke into the peaceful quiet of the night.
“Hm… Maybe I should stop being so jealous all the time. It must be annoying for you, having to deal with me like that.”
Jeongguk sat up, face contorted in offence as he disagreed, “What? No! Don’t stop.”
“Oh? And, why not, my baby bun? Do enlighten me.” Taehyung smirked, and that was when Jeongguk realised that his boyfriend had been trying to tease him - which of course, worked like a charm.
Jeongguk pouted then, pinching at Taehyung’s nipple as he whined, “Hyung, stop teasing me already.”
Taehyung let out an inhuman shriek at the sudden attack and immediately backtracked, apologising to Jeongguk for teasing him.
It got quiet again for a while, the two moving back to their previous position when Jeongguk mumbled almost inaudibly, “D-don’t stop being jealous. I like it when you’re jealous, it's hot.”
Jeongguk also felt secure knowing that Taehyung was jealous, it reassured him that his older boyfriend loved him. Of course, he kept this information to himself, knowing that it would only end with him being teased and never living it down.
“Aww Ggukie, you do like it when I act all possessive. That’s so cute!” Taehyung pinched Jeongguk’s cheeks with a wide grin.
Once again, Jeongguk flushed red, moving off of Taehyung’s and pulling the blanket over his head and he squeaked, “S-shut up! Am not cute!”
Taehyung couldn’t help but giggle at the younger’s antics, wrapping his arms around the Jeongguk blanket burrito that had now become his little spoon, “Okay, okay. Whatever you say, my little prince.”
Jeongguk didn’t respond, leading Taehyung to believe that the younger had fallen asleep. Taehyung tightened his hold on Jeongguk, breathing out a soft airy “Goodnight. I love you, bun.” without expecting a response. He was just about to drift to sleep when there was wiggling from within the blanket burrito and Jeongguk’s head popped out, stealing a kiss on Taehyung’s lips before disappearing back into his cocoon.
Taehyung was stunned speechless at the gesture, it was just too cute for his own good. However, the events earlier had also tired him out, so within a few seconds he was already drifting off to sleep, a softly whispered “I love you, hyung” reaching his ears right before everything went black.
While Taehyung and Jeongguk had let Junseo off easy, the same couldn’t be said for the other five, especially Yoongi who had developed an extreme level of protectiveness towards the two maknaes of the group. The exact same night, Taehyung and Jeongguk received a long essay-like text from Yoongi, ending with an uncharacteristic “I love you” that had the two wailing into each other’s arms for hours.
And if Junseo never showed up to classes again after the incident, no one questioned it or the obviously satisfied smile Yoongi had on his face for the rest of the week.
