Work Text:
Senku groaned before flopping down on the couch beside Ryusui.
“Do we have to go to this?” He said, which caused Ryuusei to huff in response.
“Senku this is a wedding, it’s not something we can exactly skip out on. Plus I already informed Ukyo and Chrome we’d be going.” Senku then sighed again before turning his position to where he was now laying on the other boy’s lap, looking up at him.
“I know… I thought I could just send Gen to give our gifts and congratulations to them though.”
“Babe, what’s going on?” Ryusui moved Senku’s bang out of his face. “Chrome is your best friend, why don’t you want to go?”
His face scrunched up “Ugh I hate it when you call me that.”
“I know, but your reaction is cute so I do it anyway.” Ryusui then poked the top of his nose teasingly.
“You’re being awfully cringy today.”
“And you’re being awfully dismissive.” Ryusui said back. “So tell me why you don’t wanna go to this wedding again?”
Senku sat back up. “I don’t know… they make me feel weird. I felt some type of way at Tsukasa and Hyoga’s and I feel the same way now. I’m not sure why but I do know that I don’t wanna be a stick in the mud at another wedding.” Senku felt his face go hot. He hated being vulnerable in front of people even if it is over something as little as this. It’s also embarrassing because Ryusui is almost always the person who sees him like this, well other than Gen.
He squeezed his hand softly. “Hey, I promise you won’t feel like that tomorrow, and if you do, let me know and we’ll leave immediately, okay?” He asked with concern in his voice and Senku nodded.
“Okay.”
—
Needless to say, the wedding was beautiful.
According to Chrome, he said that Yuzuriha, Taiju, Gen, and even Suika were the ones who planned and designed the whole thing. Senku had to give them credit, they did an amazing job.
Everyone had a great time too, and Ryusui was right. Senku definitely didn’t feel as bad as he thought he would. It was probably because he was there with him this time.
The ceremony was extremely earnest and heartfelt. Chrome was even crying as soon as he saw Ukyo walk down the aisle. Their vows contained tenderness and jokes that only those two would understand which made it more loving. Senku was never one to get emotional at these types of things but his boyfriend and his best friend were crying at both sides of him. He ended up having to give Gen his handkerchief because the mentalist left his own in his car.
They refrained from doing the cliche where one of them would throw the bouquet for someone to catch to see who the next person would be to get married. Senku was actually grateful for that cause he did not feel like fighting a bunch of hopeful girls along with… Gen, to catch some flowers that have no serious guarantee for the future.
When it was over they all headed to the reception which was almost as beautiful as the ceremony. God, they did a fantastic job. There was food for miles, the tables were gorgeously decorated, and they even had a dance floor and a DJ.
He lost Ryusui in the crowd of people when Senku went with Gen to congratulate Ukyo and Chrome on their marriage. Chrome was bawling as he hugged Senku, and even Ukyo looked a bit teary eyed. The two freshly new husbands went to greet the rest of their friends and that left Gen and Senku alone.
“This was so pretty wasn’t it?” Gen spoke first.
Senku chuckled and rolled his eyes. “If you’re looking for a compliment on the decorations you can save it.”
Gen laughed.
“Ah you caught me~” He raised his hands up defensively. “But no, I meant the wedding itself, not just the decor, Senku-chan.”
“Hmm, then yes it was 10 billion percent delightful. You’ve really outdone yourself, mentalist.”
“Thank you. I tried, I tried.”
“I’m sure you did.” He smirked.
Senku was about to go look for Ryusui before Gen asked an invasive question that almost made Senku jump.
“So this could be you and Ryusui next huh?”
…
“Jeez, way to catch a guy off guard...” He said breathlessly, clutching his chest. “And I don’t know, he hasn't brought it up before. I’m afraid he doesn’t want to.”
Gen scoffed, “You guys have been dating for almost 3 years now; I doubt that’s the case. He’s probably thinking the same thing you are.”
Is that true? Ryusui hasn’t asked because he thinks I don’t want to get married? He thought.
I don't blame him for thinking that though. Senku never told him how he felt about marriage and all of that romantic stuff. Ryusui is usually the person who initiates dates, affection, etc. But that’s just how they are, how their relationship works. Senku never found a problem with it but maybe Ryusui did. Maybe he thought Senku didn’t want to get married because he never initiated as much as he did.
Senku didn’t bother dwelling on the topic any further. Today isn’t about him or Ryusui, but it was about their two friends who would now be bound together for the rest of their lives, in sickness and in health.
Once Senku was out of whatever trance he was just in, he noticed Mozu walking towards them-- well more towards Gen-- and he took it as his cue to leave before he ended up being a possible third wheel. Those two and their... how should he put it-- coy personalities made him not want to be stuck in the middle of that.
He saw this as his chance to go look for Ryusui, although he had no trouble finding the very loud, and extremely tipsy blonde talking to Tsukasa and Hyoga, sprawled out on top of them.
Although Ryusui likes to buy the finest wine Francois can retrieve, contrary to popular belief, he did not drink much.
Senku doesn’t either, but he still had a better alcohol tolerance than Ryusui, therefore it was very easy for Ryusui to get drunk.
And it looks like he has had a lot to drink.
“Uh oh. What’s going on over here?” Senku asked as he approached the three men.
Hyoga sighed, “Sorry Senku, I tried to get him to stop but he and Tsukasa got into a drinking competition,” he said and Senku looked to the right of the white haired man and it seems like Tsukasa’s face was flushed from the alcohol as well.
Senku frowned and huffed. “Good grief, you too Tsukasa?”
Tsukasa raised his finger to speak until he was interrupted.
“We are here for a good time baby, not a long time,” Ryusui sat up, smiling directly at his boyfriend.
“Yes well I prefer if you stay for a long time, so get up, and let’s get you some water to sober up.” Senku gave an effort to lift Ryusui up, but his muscles gave out on him.
“Yeah, don’t ever try that again.” Hyoga said, watching the failed attempt.
“Hush.” Senku huffed. “A bit of help would be nice y’know.”
Hyoga shrugged and helped Senku lift up Ryusui to carry him to the bar to get water this time instead of wine.
“God, I can never take you anywhere can I?” Senku said to the blonde once Hyoga walked away. Ryusui pouted in response.
“C’mon Ryu, speak to me.” Senku rubbed his back. “Are you really mad that I took away your drink?”
“Don’t call me that! Only my boyfriend can say that name. You kind of look like him a little bit, not as sexy though.”
Senku rolled his eyes, “Yeah, you’re definitely tripping balls.” He chuckled.
“Ugh, you talk like him too. But it’s cute.” He said and they both laughed.
“That’s good to know, now will you drink this water no—“
“Speakingggg of cute,” The blonde cut him off.
“Uh oh.” The scientist slowly backed away from Ryusui leaning towards him, but it was pointless when Ryusui practically scooted onto his own stool.
“You look good in that suit… like really good.” He whispered into his ear.
Senku’s neck and ears went red. The bartender in front of them shook his head and went back to what he was doing, pretending not to hear.
“Oh? Is that so?”
“Yeah, you do. I’d take it off you later tonight but I don’t think my boyfriend would like that.”
Senku almost choked but regained his composure quickly. “Hmm, nah I think he would.”
“Really?” Ryusui’s half-lidded eyes lit up.
“—if you were sober.” Senku finished and Ryusui's smile fell.
Senku was tired of hearing the fake whimpers and pouts that came from the capitalist so he sat up from the stool, grabbed Ryusui’s hand, and walked near the dance floor.
“Where-- hicc -- are we going?” He still sounded (fake) sad.
“You are not allowed to be gloomy at weddings, that’s my job. So come on, we're dancing to cheer you up.”
They got to the middle of the ballroom and luckily they weren’t the only ones wanting to dance. Chrome and Ukyo already did their signature waltz as most couples do at their receptions and that prompted other people to dance once they were done. Chrome and Ukyo were still up dancing. It looked like Senku was right about him almost being a third wheel because Gen and Mozu were up dancing together as well. Even Tsukasa and Hyoga were there; Tsukasa seemed to have two left feet due to him being tipsy. Senku prayed he wouldn’t have the same problem with Ryusui.
And that was an issue Senku ended up not having to worry about at all because even drunk, Ryusui was dancing as if he had trained for this for years. He made it easy for Senku to follow him as they waltzed around the dance floor. It was a slow song at the moment which was good for Senku because he’d easily wouldn’t be able to keep up if it was anything different.
“I’m surprised you haven’t tripped over your own two feet Senku,” Ryusui laughed which earned him a glare.
“Oh so you know who I am now?”
“Yeah, yeah, I was just messing with you anyway.” He slurred. I guess he isn’t 100% sober.
“Of course you were,” Senku sighed.
They stayed in comfortable silence as they continued to dance. Senku was now laying his head on the taller man’s shoulder as he swayed hi side to side. He saw Gen from the corner of his eye and he was just smirking at him, Mozu was looking at him the same way too. It was most likely because Senku was never sappy or showed much PDA that wasn’t in the comfort of his own home, alone with his boyfriend. Those two were definitely not going to let him live this moment down, and probably tease him later for it.
But looking at what was right in front of him, it was totally worth it.
“I fall a little harder every time you look at me.” Ryusui said when they were back facing each other.
“Godddd you are so embarrassing,” Senku hid his face in his partner’s chest, cause if anyone saw his face beat red he'd never leave the house again.
“What? It’s true. You’re so beautiful.” Ryusui spun him around. “Throughout this whole night I couldn’t stop thinking about how breathtaking you’d look if this was our wedding.”
What.
“I-”
“Fuckkk I am rambling too much.” Ryusui interjected before sSebku could get a word out. “I know you don’t like marriage, so if you don’t wanna get married that’s fine. Juss don break up with me in the morning m’kay?”
“What? Wait Ryusui-”
“Shhhh, shhh, shhhhhhhh.” Ryusui pressed his finger to Senku’s lips. “Don’t answer me now, let’s just sleep on it.”
All Senku could do was blankly stare at him. His boyfriend, who he thought he was pushing away, just told him that he wanted to get married. Senku mentally slapped himself because once again, Ryusui was the one bringing this up, initiating, and Senku still hasn’t said anything.
Senku took a deep breath and cupped Ryusui’s face to make sure he was focused and looking him in the eyes.
“Ryusui I want to marry you too, a lot actually. Sorry I haven’t really made it clear but yeah. But if you’re lying to me and making this all up cause you’re drunk then I really will kill you in the morning.”
Ryusui blinked at him a couple times, trying to process what he had said and then widely grinned from one ear to the other.
“Aye, aye captain!” He hugged him really tight which caused a couple people to look over at them.
“You’d be the captain here.” Senku tried to act annoyed at the affection but couldn’t help but smile.
“I love you a lot y’know.” Ryusui muttered.
“I know, I love you too.”
“I can’t wait to get married to you.”
“I’ll need an official proposal for that.”
“I’ll call Francois and have them bring me a ring right now.”
“Let’s focus on Ukyo and Chrome for the night. It's their big day after all.” Senku said and Ryusui actually whined about it.
“Fine, I’ll do it tomorrow then.” Ryusui kissed the tip of his nose.
“Sure,” Senku smiled. “I’d like that.”
