Chapter 1

Notes:

- "nemo nescit" is Latin and translates to "everybody knows" (lit. "nobody does not know")

- I am not within the MCU fandom but I'm trying my best to not stray too far from the depictions of heroes. Do keep in mind that sometimes I need to tweak details about them so they make sense in the context of this story!

- Obviously, I neither own NCT nor any character from the MCU.

Chapter Text

Everybody knew that Mark was Spiderman. Well, he had never told anyone, but basically everybody knew. But despite Donghyuck trying to make him confess, he just wouldn't admit to it. Despite being his best friend!

Hell, Mark had even trusted him with the secret of being involved in the whole heroism in some kind of way - yet, whenever the talk about his superhero persona came up, he deflected.

It was kind of dumb, to be honest. All the clues were there! Donghyuck knew for a fact that Mark was a hero in his freetime, and he had never even once seen him and Spiderman in the same room! Suspicious, right? Right.

Also, for some reason, Mark refused to let him meet Spiderman. Not that he'd listen if Mark ever tried to forbid him anything, but working in the hero branch (read: BEING Spiderman) there just HAD to be a way for Mark to get him a meet and greet with the friendly neighbourhood spider boy. Damn, that may have come out a little too affectionate... nice guys weren't even his type!

Well, usually. Mark was just too damn likeable, too nice for his own good sometimes, there was no way anyone could just... not like him. That's why he was his best friend, afterall. Mark was probably the nicest person on this planet - and Donghyuck took pride in being the only one to be able to successfully rile him up whenever he felt like it. Damn, his best friend was just too easy to tease. Despite being the most talented, nicest, generally greatest person Donghyuck knew Mark got flustered very easily. Especially if people (read: Donghyuck) got a rise out of him.

Donghyuck adored Mark - as his best friend, of course - and by extension, he adored Spiderman.

-

Donghyuck was walking through the streets.

At night.

He wasn't worried though, there was always some hero just around the corner in case something happened. Plus, he'd like to believe that Spiderman watched over him extra well - best friend privilege.

He had just turned to cross a particularly dark alley when some creepy old fart - clearly drunk - stumbled out of a building right behind him. Huffing slightly, Donghyuck started walking faster.

"Not so fast, boy! I know ex...'xactly what you're here for!" He slurred, following him. Donghyuck gulped. What did he want from him?

"Now... now be a good boy and hand!" The guy hiccuped "me those drugs! Joe told me... he told me he paid already, so hand'em over! 'Ight now!"

Despite the cold sweat trickling down his back, he couldn't hold in a snort at that. Really? He had been mistaken as a drug runner? Sadly, his 'customer' didn't find this situation funny in the slightest.

"Hand'em over I said!" The old fart actually started running towards him now. Panicked, Donghyuck started running, too. He knew this alley, it'd end just around the corner of that restaurant with the way overpriced desserts. From there it'd be easy to blend into the crowd of late night commuters.

However, his master plan was cut short by none other than the restaurant with the way overpriced desserts. Snuggly parked into the alleyway was a delivery truck, its driver and the restaurant worker seeming to have gone inside for a break. Essentially: a dead end.

Gulping - but definitely not shaking in fear if anyone asked, thank you very much - he turned to his chaser. The old fart had actually caught up a concerning amount and Donghyuck could make out a suspicious metallic glint in his hand. Was that a gun? Fuck.

Would he die here? Tonight? He hadn't even met Spiderman, yet! Well, in his hero suit, to be exact... he did see Mark almost every day. But that was beside the point right now. He would die!

Suddenly, his chaser came to a halt and lifted his gun... but he wasn't looking at Donghyuck, but rather at a random point above his head. Donghyuck didn't dare to move even an inch.

Until there was the sound of someone clearing their throat. Coming from above him.

Slowly, he turned around and looked up at the spectator, only to be greeted by a red bodysuit. Donghyuck would have been ecstatic - well he was, maybe he wasn't actually going to die now... but he would have been even more ecstatic - if this had been Spiderman - but this wasn't Spiderman.

Sitting there, on the roof of this truck in all his glory, was Deadpool. Deadpool was a quite controversial 'hero' - most people not considering him one, not even himself.

A shot rang through the dark alley and Donghyuck couldn't help but duck in fear.

"Now, now... this doesn't seem like a very nice greeting. Besides, I can't even shoot back at the moment, so this is very rude!" It might have been dark in the alley, but the intention behind Deadpool's words was bright as day. He was clearly trying to rile up the old fart even more. Donghyuck wanted to groan... out of all the heros in this city, why was it Deadpool who turned up in a life or death situation like this?

The not-hero's words definitely had the desired effect. More bullets went flying, and despite knowing that Deadpool was skilled at what he did, he couldn't help but wonder whether the guy was a masochist with how light-heartedly he riled up that man.

It was all fun and games - it actually was kind of entertaining from the sidelines, he had to admit - until he was thrusted from his sidelines position right into the middle of this very much armed fight: the creepy guy, in his rage, had decided to take his bad mood out on Donghyuck, too, the gun now pointed to his head.

From then on, everything seemed to happen in slow-motion. He could see the man's finger pull the trigger, saw how the projectile left the barrel, sent onto its way right through his brain.

There was a flash, and suddenly the weird slow-motion headspace was gone and left him staring at what - or who - was right in front of him: Deadpool, with both of his swords out, one of them having dodged the bullet that had been meant for him, as it seemed. Had Deadpool just saved his life? What about...?

He got his answer as Deadpool squatted down to the motionless (And very much headless) body, wiping his other sword clean on the dead man's clothes.

The not-hero must've caught him staring, as he looked up at him. "What? If I sheath it when it's still dirty it'll get all rusty after a while. Can't have that when saving cuties like you."

Donghyuck couldn't help but feel heat rising to his cheeks. What the fuck?

"You shouldn't walk through suspicious alleys like this, especially not at night... Who knows what could've happened?"

Donghyuck would've been startled at the words of affection coming from the spandex-wearing not-hero, had it not been for the teasing, borderline mocking tone in his voice.

"Oh shut the fuck up, it's not like there aren't enough people around here to save me if something were to happen! By the way, have you seen Spiderman around here by any chance? I know the two of you are seen together from time to time-"

"I saved your cute little ass and you're already talking about another man? You wound me~" Donghyuck swore he could feel Deadpool lift a questioning eyebrow. "But since you asked so nicely... he's not out hunting criminals tonight, he's... busy."

He seemed to think a little, before adding: "But let's be honest, you're lucky I came to save you, not him. What would he have done, threw a web at this fucker?" He nodded to Donghyuck's chaser. "I have swords - and I know how to wield them, all three~"

Donghyuck took a second to realize what the swordmaster was playing at, not being able to suppress a groan at the lead remark despite the blood rushing to his face.

This guy was like a mixture of his annoyingness, Jaehyun's frat boy humor and Johnny's overflowing confidence. A true menace to society.

-

Not too long after, he reached home. Deadpool had insisted on walking him there, tone mocking as ever... Donghyuck would have to lie to say it didn't make him feel safer than walking alone after that alley incident.

Kicking off his sneakers before entering the hallway, he pulled out his phone. Spiderman had been busy?

@Spidermark
Yo
Hyung
What were you doing this afternoon?

@FullSun
?
Wdym

@Spidermark
Hero stuff?

@FullSun
Dude
I told you I had dance class today

Ha! So Spiderman really had been busy. So much for that, Mark! One day, he'd prove that his best friend indeed was the one and only Spiderman.

Notes:

Well then, I hope you liked it!

The chapters are rather short but there will probably be quite a few! :D

Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments! :>

- Writing drunk people is hard.
- I'm a rather calm guy usually, so writing a character like Deadpool or Donghyuck's colourful vocabulary in here are very new for me, lol.
