Vanilla-Coconut [Choso x Reader]

Summary:

Nostalgia came in a bottle for you and Choso for different reasons.

Notes:

Primarily based on my own headcanons, unedited fluff.

Work Text:

From the time that Choso spent outside of his captivity, alive and breathing, he had very limited access to things that most people would have. For starters, curses didn't shower. The only person who really did in Geto's group was, well, Geto. However, because of this rather unfortunate circumstance, Choso only bathed in the ocean water of the beach domain that Geto and the other curses resided in.

Upon first meeting Choso, he smelled like someone who spent a lot of time in the sun. There was the subtle, metallic smell that emanated from the tall man, with a crisp, salty undertone. You weren't put off by the scent, if anything it reminded you of the rare times you spent at the beach with friends and family during summer break. It made a lot more sense when he finally admitted to having bathed in seawater until things went awry with Geto.

Domesticity was almost foreign to the human-curse hybrid, himself. His basic understanding of mannerisms and family formed with the help of Geto, Mahito and his two brothers. With that, he knew most of what was expected of him, just not the supermundane things like how a microwave works, what the remote for the television did and why the water in your shower needs to be adjusted before he started the shower.

You did your best to situate him into your own living space, albeit cramped thanks to the minimalistic design by Japanese architects. Towering over you at about 6'2, it was a miracle he fit through the doors of your apartment.

Over the course of the first week or so, you would teach Choso how to use the appliances in your house. The bathroom was the most finicky of all because the settings were all dealt with outside the actual bathroom itself and the buttons were all so confusing.

His eyebrows were crinkled as he tilted his head at the panel on the wall, "So you... dry your clothes in there too?"

With a small nod, you pointed at the button again, "When you finish washing your clothes in the machine in the kitchen, you hang them in the bathroom and press this to air dry them."

Since moving in, Choso has mastered setting the perfect temperature for the shower before heading into it. He learned very early on that if he didn't, he would be unpleasantly blasted with ice-cold water. Something that happened the first few times, sending him into your little shelf of bath products.

He had been gone for exactly three minutes, long enough for you to finish the last bite of food on your plate. You thought everything was well until a loud crash followed by several more loud noises of falling things in your bathroom alerted you otherwise.

Gently rapping on the door, you called out for the giant, "Is everything okay in there, Choso?"

You assumed he was restocking all the things he knocked over as he let out a muffled response. Peering over, you noticed the panel on the wall indicated the shower water was well below comfortable, "Is the water too cold?"

Moments later, stomach still tightening from your muffled laughter, you explained to Choso that he forgot to change the water temperature. He had a rather small towel wrapped around his waist, fist bunching the corner to keep his modesty and water from dripping all over your floor from the ends of his hair.

"So 37 is the perfect temperature? Not too hot? Not too cold?"

"Google says it's the average, but you can try it today and see. Adjust it accordingly tomorrow if you want."

Choso came to love showering. You even took him shopping to help him find bath products for him to call his own. There was a lot of bottle sniffing involved, but Choso was confident in his pick of the vanilla-coconut-scented body wash and shampoo.

It reminded him of the times he dipped his feet into the cold ocean water, tides rippling over his skin with the gritty sand embedding itself between his toes.

Cuddling was one of Choso's favourite things to do, especially right after a nice shower. He always felt warm and content, snuggling up to you like the oversized teddy bear that he was. Hair still slightly damp, skin soft and smile nuzzled into the crook of your neck.

He felt safe.

For you, the scent of coconut reminded you of the first time you met him. It was the association of a nice day on a beach with fruity drinks to compliment the warm weather. Notes of vanilla just felt like Choso. It was soft and tickled your nose like the first whiff of your favourite pastry coming out of the oven, sweet just like the very man clinging to you as his eyes started to lid from calm fatigue. Both notes fit Choso's profile and mingled with his natural scent like the perfect combination. Artificially scented or not, it complimented him all too well.
