“I don’t mean to alarm you,” Hoseok says, as Yoongi walks back into the room with a bag of chips that he had better not let mess up his suit so help me God. “But I think we’re famous.”
“Did you gather that from all the paparazzi’s or was it perhaps that we’re trending on twitter?” Yoongi asks.
“A little bit of both,” Hoseok says, before he gets his phone out to see whether they are in fact trending on twitter. Oh! Not just in Korea. “Well, will you look at that? Trending worldwide.”
“Two different hashtags, Seok,” Yoongi says, walking over to him to backseat drive on Hoseok’s phone. “Both one and two. You should see Mexico! Boy, they sure love us over there.”
“’Congrats Hoseok and Yoongi,’” he reads off, then scrolls his thumb past thousands of tweets all saying the same thing. The hashtag ‘Yoonseok’ is rising up one country at a time. He turns his head to look at Yoongi, still over his shoulder. He surprises him with a kiss.
“You remember on the day we met, I told you we should take over the world? I think we can do that now.”
“I already have the world,” Hoseok says, before he turns around and grabs Yoongi, practically lifting him up into his arms. “I have you.”
“Fuck, that is corny as hell. I’m calling the wedding off,” Yoongi says, pushing himself off Hoseok. Hoseok does that thing he likes where he makes a kissy face at him with his stupid sound effects and Yoongi just pushes his head away until he’s laughing and falls into Yoongi’s arms.
“It’s too late, we’ve already paid the caterer.”
“Ah, alas. I guess I’m stuck with you then,” Yoongi makes a sad face which Hoseok manages to wipe away by pecking him on the cheek. Yoongi sets his still half full bag of chips on the bedside table and then takes a seat in Hoseok’s lap to make out with him for a little while. He’s not sure what time it actually is. He knows they’re going to be married in about two hours, so he has plenty of time to kiss his fiancé before that word stops being applicable.
Hoseok being his husband has been inevitable for a while now. He met Hoseok this time last year. The first episode of the show aired mid-June, now in August a year later and it’s been the best year of his life. Everything about this year has been perfect. From meeting Hoseok, to releasing an EP, to Hoseok rising up on online listicles as one of the greatest dancers in the world – not just one of the greatest in Korea. Then there’s all the money they got in the lawsuit, which is paying for this huge wedding. And he can’t forget Namjoon and Seokjin eloping about a month after the show was over, or the seven pets and counting that Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook have adopted. Everything truly has been perfect. Yoongi’s life began a year ago; before the show, he didn’t even know it hadn’t started yet.
Every single day Yoongi has to remind himself how lucky he is. Everything fell into place perfectly. He never could have predicted the way that Hoseok makes him feel, and he doesn’t think he can overstate just how happy he is with his career. He loves it. He loves himself, he loves his friends, and he loves Hoseok.
Yoongi pulls away when his curiosity gets the best of him. He takes Hoseok’s phone from his hand and enters the passcode that he still hasn’t changed. 1-2-3-4-5-7. No 6. He opens right into all of the hashtags and well-wishers. A lot of it is in English, but he thinks he can put the pieces together. About a month ago, Yoongi actually learned how to pronounce “Bachelor.”
All the usual pictures are circulating. Yoongi and Hoseok on the show, their engagement photos, the time they were on Jimmy Fallon, a sneaky pap or two. There’s even some fan art, which Yoongi still hasn’t wrapped his mind around. People make art of things like TV shows or cartoon characters – they don’t draw him and his future husband. Or at least, he never could have imagined that.
Yoongi sees tweets from languages he doesn’t even recognize. He is so blessed to be loved by so many people. He’s still in disbelief over the reactions to the show and his music. He wonders if any of it will ever start to feel real.
Hoseok’s heart breaks just a little bit when he sees Yoongi’s face fall at a particular tweet. He looks at the phone to see that Yoongi’s looking at a selfie of Hoseok’s sister, commenting on how pretty the décor is. He knows immediately why Yoongi is sad, and it makes him break a little bit too. Yoongi’s parents aren’t coming. They aren’t attending the wedding of their son.
Even during the show, Yoongi had warned Hoseok that they might not be supportive, but he had a little hope. There was always something in his eyes that made them both believe Yoongi’s parents could set aside their prejudices to be happy for their son. He doesn’t have that hope anymore. At least his brother is here, but Yoongi really deserves to have a supportive family. He deserves it. Yoongi is so kind, so talented, and so loving. Any parent who doesn’t see that doesn’t deserve him as their son. Yet, he was raised by those people, so Yoongi can’t detach himself from how much he wants them to support him. It would be great if he could just forget and move on. He knows that not loving your child unconditionally makes you a bad parent, but however you phrase it, those people are still his parents.
There was a little while when Hoseok thought that they might come to the wedding. Six months ago, right after their engagement, Yoongi asked if he could bring Hoseok home and they actually said yes. The dinner they had was awkward, but it was cordial. They didn’t say anything offensive the entire time. They refused to acknowledge Hoseok as anything other than a friend of Yoongi’s, but there wasn’t an explosion or an intervention. He’s pretty sure they haven’t watched the show to this day. They have no comprehension of just how much their son loves Hoseok, and how much Hoseok loves their son.
“I love you,” Hoseok says. He doesn’t want to tell Yoongi the overused ‘it’s okay’ line, because sometimes things aren’t okay. Yoongi’s parents not showing up to his wedding is not okay. It never will be.
“I know,” Yoongi says, somberly. “I love you too.”
“You matter so much to so many people,” Hoseok reminds him, kissing his neck in small bursts. “And not just to people who know you. Your brother loves you, my family, our friends. People who like your music love you, people who watched the show love you. Hell, your makeup artist loves you, Yoongi.”
“Thank you,” Yoongi says, sounding genuine. “It’s just… it sucks.”
“Yeah,” Hoseok says. “It does suck. But until they realize how perfect you are, they don’t matter. They’re the ones missing out on you. And me of course, because I’m so lovely.”
Yoongi laughs and nods his agreement. He lets Hoseok kiss him as he smiles into it. “Let’s not think about that, okay?”
Hoseok nods. “Do you know how excited I am to introduce you as my husband? Not ‘my boyfriend’ or ‘my fiancé’. I’m going to start calling you my husband to everyone, and then everyone will look at you and see how lucky I am. I bet people will be jealous.”
“Mmm yeah,” Yoongi says. “You did snag a really good one.”
Hoseok’s puts his hands on Yoongi’s cheeks. He holds them there and lets himself indulge in how squishy his face is. He’s so precious. Hoseok has always loved just how soft Yoongi’s face is. There are no sharp lines or curves and that’s the best part. If Yoongi had sharp cheek bones or a sharp jawline, Hoseok would love the way he looks just as much, but he is so thankful that he is the way he is. Yoongi is a little dumpling or a bread roll, and he is all Hoseok’s to cherish. He’s so goddamn cute.
The difference between the Yoongi that he knows, and his Agust D persona is probably the sexiest thing in the entire world to Hoseok. It wasn’t until Yoongi got to make an actual music video for his songs that Hoseok realized just what he got himself into when he fell in love. Obviously Yoongi is sexy, obviously. But Hoseok had not prepared himself for that. Sometimes Hoseok will look at the Agust D persona and has trouble recognizing that as the same Yoongi who demands cuddles every time they watch a movie. He’s literally the same person who begs Hoseok to fuck him.
Hoseok always tell him as much, and it’s kind of hilarious to watch Agust D’s façade fade instantly whenever Hoseok talks to him. He can look evil one second but then Hoseok pokes his cheek and he’s Yoongi again.
“You’re literally the light of my life,” Hoseok says.
“More than Mickey?” he asks. Hoseok pretends to consider him for a second. While their dog is in his top three favorite people – along with their other dog Holly – Yoongi does edge him out.
“Well, Mickey is pretty good at cuddling,” Hoseok says. “But I think you’re a bit better.”
“That’s because I don’t slobber all over you when I kiss you.”
“You slobber a little bit.”
“Fuck off,” Yoongi says and then kisses him to prove that he doesn’t slobber. Admittedly, the kiss is kind of wet. The kiss tastes like Hoseok’s peach flavored chapstick and hotel coffee and potato chips. Yoongi wraps his arms around Hoseok’s neck and keeps him in place. In just a few hours, he’ll be told to “kiss the groom” in front of everyone they know, and they’ll officially be husbands. He’s going to fall asleep tonight after marathon sex and they’ll be tied together in the eyes of the law. In three days, they’ll be in Greece for their honeymoon and actually experience the sites this time. In a month, they’ll be newlyweds who people congratulate. In a few years, they’ll even be parents. Yoongi’s life is just perfect. It’s perfect.
“I’m still a little bit annoyed that you proposed first, you know,” Hoseok says against Yoongi’s lips.
“You should have stepped up your game,” Yoongi sneers.
“I had made a reservation! You beat me by three hours!”
“I’m just smarter than you.”
“Or impatient,” Hoseok says, squeezing him. He had literally booked them a table at the restaurant where they made kimchi together. They were supposed to take a walk by the river after dinner and Hoseok was going to get down on his knee, but Yoongi just had to be cuter and propose to him after playing the song he wrote for him. In fairness, it was a perfect moment that Hoseok wouldn’t change for the world. All of Yoongi’s songs are amazing, but the moment of closing his eyes and hearing Yoongi’s voice speak to him through the headphones with words meant only for Hoseok, and then opening his eyes to see the ring… that sure was something.
Hoseok didn’t think he was going to be the type of person to cry being proposed to. Yoongi probably didn’t think he was also going to cry when Hoseok pulled out his engagement ring. They’re so goddamn in sync that they literally planned it for the same day. They should have expected as much.
“You’re going to be my husband,” Yoongi says, teasingly.
“Not if I make you my husband first.”
“I hate you,” Yoongi says.
“No you don’t,” Hoseok chides and then kisses him sweetly. They don’t have a whole lot of time before the ceremony but Hoseok is pretty sure it’s enough time for a quickie. He starts to really think about it, going so far as to flip them over and push Yoongi on the bed, but someone knocks on the door before he has the chance to even consider how wrinkly their suits will get.
Yoongi gives a Hoseok a look before he sighs, a look of pure disappointment in his eyes. Hoseok stands up and tries to smooth out his clothes before he walks over to open the door, and Yoongi sits up on the bed. They’re in a pretty fancy hotel, fancy enough that the rooftop is able to hold an entire wedding party. Yoongi has been sick of having people mess with his hair – now back to his natural black instead of white – or his makeup ever since the goddamn show, so they’ve had the last few hours to themselves, trying to pretend either of them knows how to do hair. He hopes that it hasn’t been fucked up in the last few minutes. His mind will always linger to the night they first met when Yoongi complained about how crinkly and stiff his hair was only for Hoseok to mess it up and say it looked like sex hair. That was probably the moment. Every moment was the moment looking back on it.
Yoongi goes back to the chips, and the sound of the bag alerts Hoseok. He gives him a glare that tells him if he messes up the suit then Hoseok will mess up his face. Hoseok let Yoongi pick out his suit… but only with his guidance. Yoongi steals all of Hoseok’s clothes anyway. Ever since his dancing career took off, Hoseok buys so many nice things that Yoongi likes to repossess on himself. Yoongi isn’t much one for fashion so the things he steals never look as good on him as they do on Hoseok. That’s probably why Hoseok always takes them off of him. Actually, there are probably other reasons for why Hoseok is always taking clothes off of him.
“Oh my god, you guys are trending on twitter,” Jimin says when he enters. He’s in a suit, and he looks decadent as always. He’s all blond hair and perfect features and a smile to melt your heart. Jimin has probably posted a selfie already so that everyone knows how cute he looks in his suit. It might be his ambition to become the third highest trend. When it comes to Jimin, that’s to be expected.
None of them knew before the show was over quite the effect that Jimin in particular had had on the world. Jimin is one step away from having cults built around him. It is entirely possible that people watched the show more for Jimin than they did for Yoongi and Hoseok.
Everyone just loves Jimin. They love his face and his personality, and they love the way that he has two boys in love with him. Yoongi made the mistake of watching the first twenty minutes of a three-hour YouTube video about how Jimin is the perfect specimen of human creation. That person was obviously wrong, because Hoseok.
“Are you trying to steal our spotlight?” Hoseok asks, holding out his phone to show Jimin the selfie he posted less than five minutes ago.
“I’m just trying to show the world how excited I am to be at your wedding,” he says, mocking innocence.
“A simple ‘so excited to see my two best friends get married’ would have sufficed.”
“But then the world wouldn’t get to see how good I look today?” Jimin sounds offended.
“Are you decent?” Someone says preceding their knock which is loud and obnoxious just like the person at the door.
“We’ve never been decent,” Yoongi shouts back.
The person seems to take that response as a yes, because the door opens to reveal Jungkook, who is followed closely by Taehyung. Hoseok jumps at their arrival and goes to hug them both. Yoongi groans, because he supposes that he can’t get away with being lazy and sitting on the bed for much longer.
Yoongi gets up and grabs both Taehyung and Jungkook at the same time so that he can get the hugging over quickly. He won’t admit to either of them, any of them, that he cherishes them with all of his heart. He did enough of that on the show so now they’re just going to have to live off of those memories. Taehyung, ever the hugger, doesn’t let go even when it’s clear that Yoongi is trying to get away. They both know he’s not as grumpy as he pretends, so Taehyung’s grip tightens.
Hoseok does a headcount of the room while Yoongi struggles to pry Taehyung off of him. Jungkook manages to escape, though with a frightened expression. Jungkook then goes to Jimin and clings to him.
“You good?” Jimin asks him. Jungkook nods with exaggeration as he pretends to catch his breath.
“Where are the lovebirds?” Taehyung asks. “I texted them, so they should be here by now.”
Yoongi finally pushes Taehyung off of him by the head, a little less intent on trying to preserve his face as he is with Hoseok. “You texted people to come bother is in our own room?”
“We’re not a bother if you enjoy our company,” he replies. That almost sounds philosophical.
“I’m not going to say it, but we’re all thinking it,” Jimin says.
“Gross.” Yoongi is either referring to Taehyung or what Seokjin and Namjoon may or may not be doing right now. Jungkook smiles sheepishly and kisses Jimin’s cheek. Then he tugs Taehyung over and kisses him too. Yoongi gags because that’s what they do to each other now that they aren’t on the show. Back in the real world, PDA is weird.
Yoongi sees Jimin just the slightest bit differently in the past week, because the seven of them had an actual bachelor party and Jimin did a body shot off of Jungkook’s collar bone and that’s an image that will scar him for life. Also, the fact that Jungkook let him do it. Taehyung thought bringing a dog to bachelor party was okay, but it was really strange.
“I love you guys,” Hoseok says, in a dream-like voice. The sentiment isn’t for him, but he looks at Yoongi anyway. Whenever he uses the word “love” his brain automatically thinks of Yoongi. Hoseok loves ice cream a lot, but whenever he says he loves ice cream, he’s reminded of how much more he loves Yoongi.
There’s a soft knock at the door a moment later. It’s the kind of knock that most definitely was made by Namjoon. No one is entirely sure what a Seokjin knock would sound like, but you would know it when you hear it.
Hoseok looks at everyone, and he makes that one chipmunk face that Yoongi loves more than anything in the world. He mouths the word “hide.” Of course, everyone does. Three people climb under the bed and one hides in the closet. Man, no one ever thought they’d be hidden in a closet again after that show, did they? Hoseok joins Yoongi in the closet – yeah that’s a weird sentence – why does it not surprise him that Yoongi would be too lazy to hide under a bed? The other three, they’re young, they’re limber. Yoongi? No, he’s old. Bones are too creaky. Can’t hide under a bed.
Then Yoongi slams down on Hoseok’s foot to make him yelp. He laughs at him as Hoseok bounces on his foot for a second before he clamps a hand over his mouth when they hear the hotel room door open.
“Guys?” Namjoon’s voice calls out. Neither Hoseok nor Yoongi can see them from this vantage point but they still press themselves up against the wall of the closet to stay hidden. “Are you sure this is the right room, Jinnie?”
“Of course it is, I heard Hoseok. I’d know that yelp anywhere.”
“Where are they?” Namjoon asks, clearly confused. Seokjin is smart though, he kicks a foot under the bed and Jimin swears. He crawls out from the bed looking annoyed.
“What if that had been my face and not my ankle?” Jimin asks. “Do you see how pretty my face is? You would be found guilty of destroying precious art.”
“Serves you right for hiding in a place so close to my foot.”
“You’ve gotten meaner in marriage,” Jimin sighs. Jungkook comes out from the other side of the bed and then Taehyung’s little voice asks for help so Jungkook pulls him out and kisses him when Taehyung looks disheveled.
“I haven’t!” Seokjin says. “It’s the fame that made me mean. I’m very nice to Namjoon.”
Hoseok and Yoongi have tuned out the other voices in the room, because being really close to each other, even while hiding in a closet, is just a recipe for making out. Hoseok’s fingers are in his hair and he’s not even trying to keep it PG. His tongue is in his mouth, making sure that Yoongi knows who he belongs to. Yoongi’s favorite place to put his hands is on Hoseok’s hips or waist. Yoongi never lets himself forget the shape of Hoseok. He’s got a dancer’s body and Yoongi sure is lucky to have it pressed against him.
Hoseok forgets that there are five other people in the room until Namjoon opens the door and looks at them like he’s disappointed.
“Hi,” Yoongi says, but he doesn’t turn to look at him, he grabs Hoseok’s face and brings him back to his lips.
“I’d say get a room, but this is your room.”
“Did you know you’re trending on twitter?” Seokjin asks. Yoongi gives him a thumbs up instead of pulling away from Hoseok.
“Ah, gross,” Jimin says, rolling his eyes, but he takes out his phone and takes a selfie with the two of them sucking face behind him. He doesn’t consult before he posts it, because that’s just who Jimin is.
“I love you, Yoongi,” Hoseok whispers to him. He says it a thousand times a day, but it never loses its meaning. He’ll love Yoongi forever. They often joke about how they’ll love each other when they’re both in rocking chairs, and it’s absolutely true. Hoseok is going to love him when Bingo is the highlight of the week.
“I love you too, future Mr. Min Jung.”
“Jung Min.”
“Oh, whatever.”
