Chapter Text
The alarms around the facility rang loud and clear in the still morning air. A lone figure could be seen running down the halls to the main boss's office. A look of fear on the person's face. Not everyone knew what was going on but those who did were running around getting stray security guards to start locking the building down. Making the employees go back to their respective desks or offices. Everyone, however, knew better to ask questions so they did as they were told to abandon meals or projects if it was safe to do so. If not they would be guarded until they could safely put up what they were doing to go to their respective office to be locked in.
In the meantime, the loan figure had made his way to the boss's office and was in the middle of explaining what happened. The boss a man who was built to intimidate with wide-set shoulders and height that seemed to be taller than his six foot five. He had extremely curly black hair and a smattering of freckles over his nose and cheekbones. It would have made the man look kind if it was not for the cold look in his dark red eyes. The look in the man's eyes went darker as the poor doctor explained what had happened.
“The building is going into lockdown now. We are certain the patient has not gotten out of the building so we are more than sure we will find him and the person responsible for the escape attempt.” The shorter man said while looking at the desk that separates him from his boss. Hoping to keep from gaining the man's wrath.
The boss just looked at the man and nodded saying “Good I hope for your sake and your families that the patent has not made its way out.” The implications behind that vague threat made the man stiffen in fear before he bowed. Hoping beyond hope that he would not find out what would happen to him and his family if he failed.
Being dismissed he went right to work. Helping the guards search the building from top to bottom. As the days went by he became more desperate and scared. Snapping at people to hurry up and find the boy. Having been in charge of making sure the patient was kept under and of and the nurse hired that worked with said patient. It would be his fault if anything happened to the thing. It took them a total of four days of lockdown to not only search the whole of the building but also find out several employees were missing most notably from the R and D department and a few of the security guards. They also found out that the patient had escaped almost a week before they finished their search and two days before they even realized anything had happened. To the utter relief of the doctor in charge, it had been under the second doctor, one who the first had not hired that the patient had disappeared under. So his family was spared the wrath of his boss however because it was the fault of the employees the doctor had either hired or vouched for he was not.
Those who would be punished were allowed to get their affairs in order before submitting to testing themselves. After that most of them were not seen again. Some if they were lucky only had their quirks taken others used to experiment on to see just what made humans gain quirks and why such a wide variety. The unlucky ones had their whole families taken to follow the progression of the evaluation of the quirks they had. That was the one big question The Boss was trying to answer. There were other questions he wanted the answers to but the biggest was. Could you house more than one quark and still retain your humanity and could anyone do it?
** Two days before**
Amanda grunted under the weight of the teenage boy in her arms. He was in and out of consciousness for the past few hours and his fever was not going down. Amanda was getting worried if she could not get to the checkpoint in time he might not make it. She was running on fumes not wanting to take the mane roads they had run out of gas about five hours ago. So she wrapped the boy in the blankets she had and packed what was left of the food she had in a backpack and started on foot. Amanda knew on foot it would take them about four days to get to the checkpoint. That was if she could make it herself.
The last few hours she had been muttering to the boy about anything and everything that came to her mind. Random math problems and how to solve them to what she learned about quirks and the facility. It was in one of the rare moments that the boy was awake enough to look at her with clear eyes that he seized before the world went dark for a moment and they all but fell to the floor of a random room.
Alarms blaring it took Amanda longer than he would like to admit to realize they were not back at the facility. But in what looked to be a room of a teenager. When she was able to think past the panic and the ache in her body to see that in the few moments she had been out of it she was surrounded by what looked to be pro heroes. She let out a soft chuckle before muttering “I was the one supposed to bring us to a safe place.” Tears running down her pale cheeks she looked up and at the pro heroes then back down at the boy who had been looking out to the other male in the room that looked to be around his age before whispering in a scratchy voice. “Kaa-Chan...Hello, I told you I would be back.”
The boy who until that moment stood by his bed in shock. Got snapped out of it by the words the boy had spoken, Bakugo reached out and whispered as if he was scared saying it too loud would make it not real. “Zuku, is that you?”
**A few moments before**
The alarms had gone off the second the two of them landed. Alerting the whole of the staff that someone had breached the barrier. It took the system just a moment to find out where the breach was and the teachers who were the closest responded in seconds.
However, what they found was not really what the staff had expected to see. A woman holding what looked to be a very sick teenager who a moment after speaking to Bakugo passed out. What gave them more of a pause was the fact Bakugo seemed to know the boy in question. As he spoke to the boy and even called him what could only be called a nickname. Before the boy passed out making the woman sag just a little more under the weight of the boy in her arms.
At the moment Bakugo was staring at Izuku’s prone form unable to move as the teachers tried to find out what was going on. Questions being asked as the woman tried to keep up.
“How did you get in here?” Aizawa spoke over the noise threatening to overwhelm the poor women making everyone else quite down. Much to the relief of the women, everyone wanted answers from.
I am so sorry I have no idea how we got here. I could only assume it was . . . “ She looked down at the boy in her arms just realizing she had never thought of a fake name for the boy. In all her hurry to get him to safety she had forgone giving the poor boy a name.”I am sorry I have no idea what his name is. I was not privy to that information. But he did something with his quirk to get us here. I could just assume he knew that being around his friend he would be safe.”
Bakugo growled and said, “His name is Midoriya Izuku and he requires some medical attention so if we could move to Recovery Girls office for more answers I think that would be a good idea.” Looking over to the teachers he glared even harder at them and said “I am not leaving him again. I let him down once but I will be there for him when he wakes up. I do not care about how many schools I have to miss. I will not let him be alone.”
Aizawa scoffed but nodded anyway. Knowing that there would be no talking the boy out of it and that it would be good for the sick boy. Now known as Midoriya to have a friendly face to wake up to. “You will go to class and remember to do any homework. However, you will be called the moment he wakes up.”
Bakugo nodded knowing it would be the best he could get. Walking up to the woman he reached out for his friend and said voice soft. “Hand him over you are far too weak to make it there on your let alone with the added weight of someone else.” For a moment Amanda was unsure about handing the boy over to an unknown but she remembered that he seemed to know the new person and nodded. Letting Midoriya be taken from her she sighed as she stood up properly trying to stay aware of everything going on around her.
“Ok, Now that that is taken care of and before we move on to the infirmary could we at least get your name?” He could see that the woman, whoever she has wanted nothing more than to make sure her charge was safe. So he was more than certain that neither of them was villains however that alone did not tell him or any of them who the two were and how they got in the school. Midnight was still on edge but Present Mic took his cue from Aizawa and relaxed but still kept his guard up a little on the off chance they or more specifically the women would do something.”
“I am Amanda White I worked at ROVSUN corp as a nurse. They employed me to keep a patient sedated stating that he was a danger to himself and others and consented to it. However, I found out after a year that was not what had happened. One of the guards let it slip that the boy who no one ever told me his name now I know his name is Midoriya. I wonder how I missed it. Was kidnapped at a young age when he was the age to present his quirk. It took a long time and a lot of planning but I and my friends were able to get him out. I had planned on taking him out of the country so he could recover in safety but as we were going through the path I have planned out the... .well he sneezed and we are here now.” Amanda motioned around her making the poor Heroes take a defensive position. Confusing her for a moment before it dawned on her. They had no idea what her quirk was and to them, she could have tried to harm someone. Smiling at them Amanda said, “Also I am quirkless myself I went into the study of quirks to better understand why some people were born with and some without.”
Just as Aizawa was going to say something else Bakugo who somehow was still in the room even with the other teachers trying to get him to leave spoke up. “Good to know but can we go now. Izu is burning up and I would like to make sure he is taken care of as soon as possible.” That made everyone look at the boy in Baklugo’s arms who was now trembling.
Aizawa who had been assigned to that case as so many children had been going missing around the same time. He was shocked as he slowly remembered the case. They caught the person taking the kids and returned most of the home. However, the kids they did not find alive were found dead in the following weeks all but Izuku so they just thought that the man who took the kids. Had found a different way to dispose of the bodies. So they concluded that Izuku had been kidded by the man even though he was adamant about it not being him who took the Midoriya boy.
“Are you sure this is him?” Aizawa asked worriedly, making his presence known once more during the chaos of taking the sick child to the medical bay. It was a known fact that despite the supposed killer being caught Aizawa believed him when he said he had nothing to do with the Midriya’s disappearance. Nor the disappearance of several other children in the area. So Aizawa had kept looking in hopes of finding some lead as to who had taken them and if any of them were still alive.
On top[ of all that Aizawa kept tabs on the friends and family of Midoriya as to make sure no one there would lead him to who could have taken the boy. So it was known by the staff of the U. A That Baskugo had to take therapy for years after his friend was taken right before his eyes. It had done a lot to calm the explosive blond down and help him channel his anger in a better way. However, he still had anger problems. Bakugo was also able to calm himself down when he needed to.
Nodding Bakugo looked down at the boy in his arms as he said “Yes I would never mistake that mop of messy green curls. He got the mess from his dad and the color from his mom” Making it to the medical bay Bakugo walked over to the bed as one of the staff members who walked with them went to get Recovery Girl. Laying him down in the bed Bakugo pulled a chair over so he could sit down and wait for the nurse to do her thing.
That is when Amanda spoke again her voice just above a whisper. “I tried to keep him healthy but they monitored everything we gave him. Me and the other nurse that was assigned to his case. So I could only give him the minimum to keep him alive and that was it. I did not understand what was going on and I feel like I let the poor boy down so many times when he looked at me when pleading eyes as if he was asking for help. I did not understand what was going on. I am sorry I am so sorry.” She was crying by the end of the long day catching up with her as the emotions overtook her. On top of that being on the run for a while with little to do no sleep or food. While trying to stay away from any camera to make sure they could not be tracked. And every few hours thinking she might have left something to lead the people out to get Midoriya back right to where they were going back at her apartment. It took a toll on her mind as she took a deep breath just as Midnight walked up to her and put her hand on Amanda’s shoulder. “It's ok we understand” Midnight helped move Amanda to a bed so she could sit and be looked at as well as she said “We will take care of him just relax and let us take it from here. At least for now.” Amanda nodded and let herself pass out eyes closing just as Midnight laid her down on the bed.
It didn't take long after that for Recovery girl to come into the room. Her cane making a light tapping sound as she walked. Seeing everyone in the room she narrowed her eyes and said: “I am sure we do not need so many people here for this so everyone who is not Nedzu or Aizawa get out.” Walking over to Bakugo she said “That means you as well. It is the weekend you can come back in the morning if you must but you are going to go back to the downs and go to sleep. Your friend will be here when you wake up and will need you to be awake as well. That is if he is awake by then.”
Bakugo seemed to want to protest but one look from Aizawa and he shut his mouth with a click and turned to leave the room to go back to his dorm room.
It took the whole time Recovery girl was examining her patients for her to be filled in on what was going on. Names and specific information on who the boy was and what little they knew about him.
“The boy Izuku is severely malnourished to the point his bones are weak because of it. He is extremely lucky his teeth have not taken a hit from the lack of calcium in his diet. He also has a fever bordering on pneumonia. If left untreated he could have died because of it. I have given him some antibiotics to help him recover but I need him to stay here for a while. I am also going to have to keep him under for a week. His fever is so bad I do not want to risk him activating his quirk till he can understand what is going on.” Holding up her hand before anyone could protest she said: “He woke up for a moment and I got to get his permission to keep him under till he is healthy enough to understand what is going on.” Nezu nodded and said “That right and even if he was not in his right mind it is best for him. I know he was kept that way for a long time but at least this time he will be allowed to wake up when he is strong enough to do so.” Recovery Girl nodded and said “I will be giving him vitamins and other things he will need via I.V line till he is awake. Then I am going to need everyone's help to make sure he keeps to a strict diet that will help him get stronger.” Everyone nodded and Nezu asked “When will he be healthy enough to wake up? We have a lot of questions and what I have heard is that this is a very dangerous situation. I would like to know if it would be safe to keep them here for now or if we are going to have to help them get to a safe place that is away from my students.” Recovery Girl nodded and said “I am not sure a week at the last two at the most. It depends on how well his body takes to medicine. If his fever goes down before then I will let you know but I want to limit the contact he has with people for now to reduce the chance of contamination. However, Amanda will be awake tomorrow so you may ask her anything you want.” Nezu nodded and started to usher everyone from the room.
**The next day**
As Amanda woke up she could hear voices around her. People talking in hushed tones as if they did not want to wake her just yet. Catching a little she groaned as she sat up still a little groggy from sleep knowing she could and probably should have stayed asleep. However, Amanda had questions and she had to know if that boy Midoryia was ok. Having to know she forced herself to sit up and look around. Squinting at how bright it was the talking stopped and as she gained her bearings she saw she was surrounded by the teachers from last night plus a few people.
As she looked around a small animal started to speak “We are happy that you are awake now. Are you up for answering a few more questions?” At her nod, Nezu smiled wider and asked “We know a little from your arrival yesterday. However, can you explain a little more about Young Midoriya’s quirk? Maybe how it works if you know or even what makes it so dangerous that it made your ex-employer fear him enough to keep him asleep.”
Amanda nodded and said “I had to know a lot just to make sure the meds we gave him did not interfere with the test on his quirks. Yes, I meant more than one as far as I know Midoriya has at least fifteen to twenty quirks and I have no idea why or how. All I know is that his father worked at the lab that took Midoriya from his life and that he might be involved with something extremely dangerous as well. However, on all accounts Hisashi is dead. From what I can tell he can combust his skin in an all-over fire. He can shoot laser beams from his eyes. He can go to a different dimension and teleport from one location to another. He can change form to what looks like a demon and even metal or something like that. He can grow big as well but he also gets fat when he does that. He can turn his body to a sticky jelly-like substance and pass through objects. THat all I know for sure he might be able to do something else. However, all they were able to find out before I was able to get him out of there. He might also have the personality of a child of four years old. However every time he was awake enough to speak he seemed to understand what was going on and almost planned something but I have no idea. I have only been with him for two years.” Looking up from her lap she asked “Is Midroiya ok? Please tell me he is ok?”
At the mention of how many quirks the boy had Nezu’s eyes widened. The thought of one person holding that much poor was unheard of and for the boy to be treated the way he was. He just hoped that the boy would be good and not turn to evil like a lot of people that were treated badly did. The boy had more than enough reason to do so and with them keeping him asleep like his captures had Nezu had to take the risk not wanting the boy to get hurt because of his inability to control his quirk.
Amanda sighed and said “I only took that job because I was about to lose my house and I had nowhere else to go they wanted someone that had my cervicitis and everything. I did not catch on that they were fishing for someone specific till a few months ago. I did not care, I just wanted to keep my place to live. I do not know they said we would be doing good things and helping people. I just wish I could have done more to see what was going on sooner but I let myself be blind and I have no idea what is going to happen. That and I am sure the company is already trying to find us. I had hoped to be further away by now but it seems that has not happened.”
Nezu and the other kept quite as Amanda spoke. Nezu taking everything in as he tried to think of how to proceed. Nodding to himself earning an odd look from Aizawa Nezu said “Young Midoriya is ok he is sleeping right now and will be for quite some time. He has quite a high fever at the moment and he might not understand what is going on around him at the moment. However, we did get his permission to put him under until he is past the worst part of the fever .” Amanda nodded and said “He sometimes told me he understood that I had no choice than to keep him under. That he was not mad at me for it but at the head of the company and his father for not protecting his family better.”
“I think it would be best if you and young Midoriya could stay here at the school. We are the leading hero school so young Midoriya can learn how to use his quirks and he can have a safe space to heal and learn as well. We could also have you help out around here as well.” Recovery Girl nodded and said, “I can tell you know what you are doing so having an extra hand around here would be a good thing.” Amanda nodded and said, “I think it would be a good thing as well to have a safe stable place for Midoriya to recover and learn about himself and what he can do more so with people who could help him do that.” Closing her eyes for a moment Amanda said “I just hope that he will be ok. I am not sure if I did the right thing seeing as he was weak before I took him away but I could not stand seeing him strapped down like that. Like he was not even human.” Taking a deep breath Amanda smiled at the people around her and said: “Thank you. I just hope he will be able to thank you himself as well.”
After that, she was shown Izuku so she could see for herself how he was doing and then to a place that should be going to stay. It would take a whole week and a half before Midoriya would be well enough to wake up and two after that before he could get out of bed. However. At that time the staff at U.A noticed that he started to heal on his own slowly but small things like a tooth would be held without outside help or maybe a sprain as well. As he healed and grew stronger the most noticeable it was the things his own body healed for him.
When he did wake up Izuku just smiled at everyone like he knew what was going on. It put a few of the teachers on edge but most of them wanted to wait to pass judgment on him. In the room with him were Amanda, Bakugo Principle Nezu, Recovery Girl, and Aizawa. Not wanting to overwhelm him but needing answers. They allowed the student with them because he knew Midoriya from childhood and they hoped that it would help put the boy at ease with them.
Seeing as no one was wanting to say anything Izuku said “Well hello it is nice to be awake after so long. Thank you for taking care of me while I was sleeping.” His voice was ruff from not using it a lot. However, Izuku was sure that was not the reason for the wide-eyed looks he was getting. Letting out a soft giggle he said “Oh I know it is a shock that I can talk or at least sound smarter than a four-year-old yes? Well, They might have kept me under but the times they let me be awake I tried to learn everything I can. People tend to talk more from what I saw when they think you are to mentally handy caped to understand what is going on around you. So I got to learn a lot. Also, I could hear their thoughts. I am not too sure why but it helped when they thought about pretty much anything like math or what it was they were doing to me. That and a few nice people would read to me while I was sleeping. I am just happy it was not all storybooks.” Izuku looked around the room trying to gauge what the people around him must be thinking without invading their thoughts. While he was talking Bakugo had made his way to Izuku’s side and pulled a chair up to the side of the bed. Taking the other boy's hand in his, he could not help more rub his thumb over the back of Izuku’s hand. Just being happy to have solid proof that nothing had been a strange dream. Izuku looked over at him with a soft smile on his lips as he squeezed his friend's hand softly.
Nezu was the first person to snap out of it and with a sharp smile he asked: “Mr. Midoriya, do you know where you are?” Making Izuku look back at him. Nezu’s sharp eyes never left Izuku's, whose own kept him in a steady gaze a small smile lighting up his face. “Oh yes, I do Principle Nezu. it is quite hard not to. You are the only documented animal that has a quirk that can also talk. It is also said that not even you know what you are. I also knew that U. A would be the best place to learn about my quirk and yes I do count it as one even though it presents like I have more” Looking around the room smile never leaving his face when he looked back at his childhood friend. “Oh, Kaa-Chan I am so happy that you are here. I had thought for a moment that it was all just a dream. I am sorry to say I dreamed of you a lot while I was held captive it seemed the only thing to keep me going that and the thought of seeing my mom again.” When he said that and Bakugo winced Izuku knew something had happened. Looking down at his lap for a moment to think Izkuk cleared his throat and said: “Cancer got her didn't it?” Looking back up to see Bakugo nod and open his mouth to speak but close it like he second-guessed what he wanted to say.
Izuku squeezed his friend's hand again Trying to show him without words that it was ok “Yes, a few years ago I think the stress of not being able to find you and not knowing if you were alive or not took its toll on her and her body just gave out. I am sorry I did try my best to help her but I have messed up myself. Seeing you get taken from right in front of me. I should have done more to save you. I should have been able to save you.”
Bakugo had no idea he was crying till Izuku put a soft hand to his face. Wiping them away as they fell a soft but genuine smile on his face. “Oh, Kaa-Chan I do not blame you for my kidnapping. I could never place blame on you I saw how hard you tried to keep me safe. I am just sorry they took me out so fast. I could have saved you from all the trauma of seeing me taken away like that. However, they knew what they were doing so there was nothing you could have done. Now you can be here for me and help me catch up on everything I missed while I was. . . .away.” Not sure how he wanted to describe what had happened. Izuku was not even sure if he was ready to admit he had been kidnapped or even know how he felt about it.
Bakugo pulled away a bright red flush adorning his cheeks at Izuku’s actions. Making the boy give a breathy laugh. Earning a glare from Bakugou as he said “I am sorry I just miss you so much I have had times I never thought I would get out and see you again because it took so long. I also had times I could not tell if I was awake or asleep. It was very hard to understand what was going on a lot of the time. More so in the beginning and it scared me a lot. Not knowing what was going on with me while I was sleeping or even what was going to happen when I woke up.” Looking around he swallowed and said “As much as I am happy that I am no longer there. Why would you let us stay here? It would be safe for us but what about you? The students? ROVSUN will not let go of me that easy. From what little I heard my father was doing some important research for them but died before he was done and all his things went poof.” Izuku made a motion with his hands that kinda looked like an explosion. “So they hoped he had done something to me so they could find some of what they paid him to work on. I am not sure if they did find anything but I think they might have as I was there for a long time.”
Aizawa and everyone nodded but Aizawa said “It is understandable to feel like that. More so when you can not control when and how you go to sleep or for how long. It also could be extremely disorientating to be woken up at different times never knowing how long you have been sleeping. We will do our best to make sure your stay with us is as good as it possibly can be.” Bakugo nodded and said “I will help make sure you are ready for the class as well. I would not want you to be behind.” Midoriya smiled at everyone as they agreed to help him in any way they could. Making Izuku cry with how nice everyone was being to him at the moment. It warmed his heart to know people were willing to help for no other reason than because it was the right thing to do.
“However if you are going to stay here you are going to have to be put under an adult. A pro hero I would say would be best if that is ok with you and Amanda that is. Just on the off chance the people who took you to want to try and get you back. They would not be able to see as you would be adopted by a pro-hero.” Nezu broke into everyone's chatter with cold logic. Making a few of the staff members glare at him for being so down. However, Izuku smiled and nodded saying “I was just about to ask that and I do not mind going to class. I think it is a good idea. I would love to see what a school is like for the first time in a long time. Also, I am going to assume you have someone in mind as you did bring it up.” Nodding Nezu gave Aizawa a pointed look and said “I do think it might be best for either Aizawa or Midnight to take you on. It is up to you who you would want to live with more as well as the person you choose. However, during the school year, you will be living in the dorm rooms and following the roles that Aizawa has in place for the hero dorms.”
Nodding Izuku said “I understand if it is ok with Aizawa I think I would like to be with him. Sorry, Midnight I think it would be best for me to be with him.” Midnight nodded and said, “It's ok I just want to make sure you are happy.” Aizawa nodded not saying anything just accepting what was going to happen.
Everyone was kicked out after a while, Izuku needing to rest so he could heal. Izuku waved them out as they left. Wishing them a good day as he yawned. Slipping back under his covers, Izuku smiled again as he closed his eyes. The last thing he remembered thinking was that he could not stop smiling. He was so happy to be free once again.
