Soyona levels the remote towards the opposite end of the suite, and its characteristic shrill whirring soon follows. Red’s head perks up at the call, and Brooklynn watches as she trots almost mindlessly into a separate room, fear still clung to her attention.
She’s eased down by Soyona onto one of the chaises opposite the kitchen, softly squeezing Brooklynn’s shoulder in reassurance, before her attention darts to the table in front of them. Atop it sits a small metal tub, the fluorescents of the penthouse shimmering in its polished reflection, and within it several layers of ice cradle a fizzing bottle of golden champagne.
Brooklynn regards the drink with surprise, her panic fading as she watches the beads of condensation dribble down the bottle’s curves. “What’s…this?”
“A reward,” Soyona explains proudly, “for your continued loyalty. I figured a bonus to your cheque wasn’t adequate enough compensation for helping me in Senegal.”
