Erwin stared into the face of death and saw that it was small and young. Barely a man, more of a boy really. His eyes were narrowed, features petite and delicate, making his age almost impossible to assess. Erwin had no doubt that this boy was here to kill him. He wanted him to try, to see what he could do. “Petra was bringing up the rear, and her fear turned to horror as she watched Levi’s horse take off, riderless, inadvertently kicking him in the chest, and then upside the head as her powerful hind hooves left the ground. His body was thrown back, his head hit a tree, and he did not rise.
“Captain!” Petra cried and turned her horse away from the jump, hastily dismounting and dashing to his aid.
“Petra, no!” Eld cried as he looked back at the scene. The squad couldn’t stop, couldn’t go back for fallen soldiers. Even if the soldier was Captain Levi. There was red smoke behind them, another titan that couldn’t be more than half a mile away. In addition, Petra’s horse, anxious as it watched the herd begin to leave, jumped the ditch, leaving the wounded pair stranded.”
Levi gets hurt outside the walls.

Summary
This disease, this flower parasite curse, this divine punishment, whatever it is, cannot have developed at a more inconvenient time. Erwin still has a Wall to repair and a dream to fulfill. He simply cannot afford to be sick. Or dying. What a logistical nightmare.
He coughs into his handkerchief.
“Drink your damn tea,” Levi says solicitously. “All that hacking disgusts me.” The way his nose scrunches up makes Erwin’s heart twinge and his lungs itch.
There’s no doubt about it. Erwin is doomed.
