    "Hey B!"

Bruce stills in his seat, and then, he laughs.

It's silent, and painful as it scrapes the bottom of his chest, and Bruce can't help but bring his hands up to cover his face. The house clothes he's wearing are suddenly too tight and too warm, and Bruce is sure he's about to die with how terrible he feels all of a sudden. Maybe Alfred had finally caved and poisoned Bruce's tea.

His eyes sting when he finally moves his hands away from his face, squinting at the sudden influx of light. Finally, Bruce spares a look to the empty seat in front of him.

For a moment, he sees a boy.

“So much hurt and distrust stored into a small, malnourished body. The boy always gave away more love than he had ever received, no matter how much Bruce tried to fill up the empty years he spent alone. A sweet, caring little boy.”

This is so well written, that final bit made me tear up I’m ngl.

Dear This Empty Notebook Bruce Gave Me Four Months Ago That I Completely Forgot About,

I'm Jason. If you're wondering why I'm writing a bunch of letters to myself, it's because I overheard my dad talking about how he's concerned about me. That he's worried that I'm not okay, or something, and that maybe I should talk to someone.

I'm sure he meant a therapist or, god forbid, Dick Grayson (brother is a strong word) — but I think I'd rather jump into the biohazardous waste at the bottom of Gotham Harbour than talk to anyone other than my dad about literally anything going on in my life right now.

But there are some things I don't want to tell Bruce either. He just wouldn't understand.

So who better to talk to than myself, right?

“However, that day, Arthur looked at her with such care and love; Tilly felt safe for the first time in what felt like forever. For a man so adept at violence, when he looked at her, his eyes were remarkably soft.“

“It’s okay,” Bruce tells him, his voice clogged with emotion. “You’re going to be okay, son. Help is on the way.” Jason just needs to hold on for a little while longer. He brushes the hair from Jason’s forehead, trying to keep him calm.

Jason’s eyes are filled with an agony he doesn’t voice besides the quiet whines under barely-there inhales. “I’m—’m I dying?”

“No,” Bruce answers quickly. “You’ll be fine, Jay. You’re fine.”

(AKA my brain went "what if jason died in bruce's arms instead of already being gone when he arrived hehe")

Jason releases a pitiful sob. “I’m scared,” he whimpers, so uncharacteristic of the Jason Todd that Bruce knows. Knew. “I don’t want to die, Dad. I don’t want to.”

After a minute or so of nothing, the man sighs. He reaches over and takes up the fork beside the bowl to manually wrap the boy’s fingers around it. The bowl on the tray in front of him is filled with little red, green, and orange things cut up into cubes. He’s been given this snack before, so the boy must like it if they keep making it for him.

“Strawberries,” the man explains, pointing out each one, “cantaloupe, kiwi. You like these.”
