Ilya sighs dreamily. There's wine on his breath, sweet and acrid. If Shane were to lick into the hot well of Ilya's mouth, could he taste the flavor on his lips? Does Ilya prefer red wine or white— or is he too young to develop a palette that he even has a preference? Alcohol is alcohol. Shane was nineteen once, he remembers, in memories he can't quite walk through anymore and whispers of nostalgia that hit him when he least expects, that he too used to drink whatever was available.
"Psyche is a very beautiful girl, people worship her instead of Aphrodite." And oh, how is accent jumps when he says Aphrodite. "So Aphrodite orders her son, Eros, to shoot his arrow and have her fall in love with someone ugly. Instead, Eros, in teenage rebellion fashion, shoots himself."

Ilya closed his eyes, wishing Cliff hadn’t asked. He hadn’t even bothered saying his name, because there was only one ‘he’ he could be referring to.

“I don’t know if he’ll be there,” Ilya lied.
Because he had figured out that, somehow, no matter what kind of event he was working at, no matter who the crowd was, Mr. Hollander always managed to be there.

He physically heard Shane turn around and it made him wince. “You want to watch your sex tape with me?”
Ilya mumbled something vaguely affirmative, sitting a clear bag of cucumbers on the counter aimlessly.
“Ilya.” Shane snapped, voice low and serious. It was scary to hear on the ice at one point, but now it just made Ilya’s stomach drop in a way that was distinctly not fear.
