Summary
“Am I too late?” He asks, not daring to make direct eye contact with the McLaren driver.
Daniel has to know. He isn’t stupid. He’s a lot of things, but he’s not stupid.
“Max.”
His voice sounds lower, heavy with something else. Something that pre-World Championship trophy winner Max Verstappen would have taken as the sign to drop the conversation and leave. But not this time. He wonders if it’s ever changed Lewis like this.
“Daniel, please, I just- I need to know. Am I too late?”

Or, the one in which it takes winning the World Championship for Max to realise he's let something more important slip through his fingers. That something is named Daniel Ricciardo.

Summary
Max and Daniel are engaged, and due to get married at the end of the season. After Max's high-speed crash at the British Grand Prix, and Max is terrified and asking for his fiancé.
Daniel has to finish the race before he can rush to the hospital and be with the Dutchman, but luckily for Daniel, Max's grid family makes sure he's never alone until Daniel gets there.

“Are you a little?”
Max's expression doesn't change when Daniel blurts the words at him.
He answers, “Yeah.”
Then he shrugs.
Like Daniel’s entire world doesn’t tilt on its axis with the movement. Like this information was obvious, or innocuous, and shouldn’t completely blow Daniel’s mind the way it does.
“What the fuck? Since when.”
“Since I was sixteen, obviously, Daniel.”
“I would’ve noticed,” he weakly argues. “There is no way I wouldn’t have noticed.”
Save for last week, never had Daniel’s caregiver instinct ever been set off by or around Max. There is just no way Max could’ve regressed around him. He would’ve noticed.
Daniel can’t be a failure at this, too.
“No one notices,” Max replies, “which is good. I am quiet when I regress.”
“What do you mean, quiet?”
“As in, I do not speak, Daniel.”
