His hand shook as he raised a fist, rapping his knuckles weakly against the door.
Hope and doubt swirled in his gut. How late was it? Would anyone bother to answer? What if it wasn’t as safe as it smelled? Haru whined again, listening to the too-loud footsteps from inside the house.
The door swung open, and warmth poured from inside. Haru shuddered, barely able to focus on the blurry figure in front of him. They smelled like a forest, woodsy and safe. They were saying something, hands outstretched, one landing gently on his forearm, but Haru couldn’t make out what they were saying.
But it was so warm, and he was so, so tired.
He heard a shout as the world tipped and went black.
When a disoriented, shivering pup stumbles his way onto Wumuti's doorstep, it's only natural she brings him in. What's one more addition to her pack?

At first glance Wumuti appeared to have everything a woman could want, a wealthy respected older husband providing for her, a beautiful house and two healthy kids.

Summary
Haru is affecting them, though. It’s weird, but Rui can feel it in his teeth. He feels more prickly than usual, hot and cold and his temper has gotten worse. Plus Haru smells so weirdly sweet to him.
It’s worst when he’s sweating. They’re running through the sequence for the showcase again. Rui’s eyes are trained on the mirror, on his own body, long and graceful as his sneakers squeak across the hardwood floor. He’s been fighting off a headache for the past hour. Usually, the blend of their scents mingled together is harmonious and comforting, but today it’s grating on Rui’s nerves, oppressive and jagged.
