The first time I read this fic was probably in 2010, and it became one of the most formative works of fiction of my teen years. I was 14 or 15 when I read this for the first time; I am now 27. Something made me think of it recently so I went looking for it. After a disheartening search for it on what is left of LiveJournal I was immensely relieved to find that jAnon had posted links to it on Ao3.
This is the kind of fic that nestles in your brain and in small, quiet moments rises up to make your soul ache. It's lived in me for 12 years and each time I read it I discover some old wisdom. It taught me a valuable lesson at a critical moment in my life: no matter how barren the landscape or shattered the path, love and hope survive. "Green and gold, on the edge of forever".
